The Spurs Thread

Yep, agreed.  I said it before, but the issue is not Jose or Poch, it's the lack of investment because the bulk of the squad was awful two years ago - and needed kicking out then.  But obviously that would make Levy's balance sheet look bad in the short term.

Agreed. Investment in players has been badly needed for a while now. Whoever comes in has a job on their hands and will need a decent transfer budget.

I have no great hopes for the weekend but if Ryan Mason were to be in charge when we finally win something (not 'Arry, Poch or Mourinho) then that would be in keeping with the strange times we find ourselves in!

Matchday - fingers crossed they play with some verve tonight. Another interesting stat I read today, Spurs have played 41% of ball-in-play time this season being in the lead, second only to Man City. It’s that last twenty minutes that fucks us every time. I remember Solskaer saying that when he took over at Man Utd they were really unfit. Same issue ? Other than defending like an under-9s team obvs.

Anyway, #LevyOut #ENICout

Yep, should be interesting.  Very unlikely Kane will be playing though (dammit dropped Fantasy Premier League points!).  But I expect Dele, Bale, etc. to be back in the starting eleven and for us to play with an attacking swagger.

I love Mason and was pleased the club got him back after his career was cut short, he was one of those players who was great for the club and supporters but not quite what we needed at the time - madness that he is our manager but let’s all back him, I think the players are good enough to win a few games now as I think I said in here that I didn’t expect us to win another game this season with Jose.

Kane hasn’t trained so defi won’t be playing tonight fwiw.

I wasn't expecting us to win another league game under José - however I sort of expected him to fluke us the league cup. One of those awful wins we got when it looked like his plan was working. I'd much rather see us have a proper go at teams. On paper city should beat us every time but who knows how much difference a happy squad makes...

Spurs get the ball rolling again. They’ve been behind at half-time in six other games this season. They’ve gone on to lose them all. They’re the only side in the division not to turn a single one of these situations into at least a point. Can interim coach Ryan Mason buck this sorry trend? No changes yet.

oooh

FULL TIME: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Southampton

After a hell of a week, it’s a near-perfect evening for Spurs. They’ve turned around a half-time deficit for the first time this season, both Bale and Son scored ahead of the League Cup final, and the interim boss Ryan Mason is off to a fast start. Saints were the better side in the first half, but so poor in the second they deserved nothing. Spurs leapfrog Liverpool into sixth, while Saints remain in 14th.

Frustrating to watch. Bale did very little when he came on. I think N'Dombele or Ali should have come on for Lo Celso to give their midfield something to think about and give us the semblance of a threat. As soon as Sissoko came on we were buggered. Aurier had a good game but then gave the free kick away that led to the goal. The one decent chance we had fell to Hojbjerg who was too scared to shoot. Our forwards looked way off the pace except for Moura, and he got subbed. I think Ryan Mason got the subs totally wrong today.

You can help but think Kane was watching the City players celebrate and thinking 'I'll have a bit of that'.

When hes had a chance World Cup 2018, Champions league 2019 and today hes been terrible

I don't know if I'm fed up with losing all the time or City winning all the time. A bit of both I suspect. I've come to expect nothing really, we will always be that middle table club until a miracle occurs.

If you believe what you read, of course Levy didn't give a shit about this final anyway, just wants the top place PL finish for Champions League next season.

It’s time this squad has a complete reset this summer and start afresh, sadly I don’t think we are going to have a decent manager to help with this.

I don’t think I can even pick a starting XI from our squad if we sell who I think should be sold. Kane and Son both looked like they’d had enough at the end of the game yesterday, but neither of them had a good game. Lo Celso was OK, Moura played well (no idea why he was hooked rather than Son), Lloris and the two CBs did well. We need some serious rebuilding - almost an entire team.

GK - Lloris is getting on a bit. Need to start thinking about replacements.

RB - neither Doherty or Aurier are good enough

CB - Sanchez and Dier not good enough, need a successor for Alderweireld. Carter-Vickers has done well on loan, but we need at least 2 good CBs

LB - Sessegnon has done well on loan, Reguilon looked good early on but seems a bit headless based on recent performances. Rose is out of contract soon.

CM - Hojbjerg stays, Lo Celso and Ndombele have the quality but are not ticking at the moment. Skipp has been fantastic at Norwich and I hope he can get in the team. Bye bye Winks and Sissoko. We have had no control in midfield for two years.

Forwards - Bale to return to RM, Lamela and Lucas inconsistent, Son hasn’t signed his new contract and Kane looked pretty pissed off yesterday at the end, but keeps turning up for finals half fit. Vinicius hasn’t been given a proper go, and will likely return to Benfica. Bergwijn hasn’t produced at all this year.

In summary, we will need a whole team if Son and Kane leave. We need a proper football man with influence over Levy when it comes to players. Hitchen and Levy choosing the transfer targets has led to a lot of average players being bought because they’re young, and ‘good value’, but unfortunately they’re also not ‘good enough’.

If we keep Kane and Son, the only reason is probably because no-one has any money this year to buy them.

You are spot on here. A squad overloaded with average. I really think Kane has had enough and I don't blame him. I think we need to rehabilitate Dele and get him back to his best. The defence is a massive problem though. I can't see any of these things being resolved sadly.

I'm hoping we get to see Bale score a few more goals before this cameo is over. Can't see him staying on for another season.

He is just incredible in full flow, sure Utd are down blah blah blah but those finishes were just a class above 90% of players in the league - I’m hoping he will stay as Levy needs some ‘cheap’ good news….

If we appoint yet another Chelsea reject I give up.

Rafa Benitez is still in with a shout too !

The one I really don’t want is Roberto Martinez - the luckiest man in world football to have landed the Belgium job after taking Wigan down and being bobbins at Everton.
