I think Kane is already gone. There’s no way we’re getting CL playing like this. The point flattered us last night. The only slight hope in the Cup Final is that City have a CL semi-final three days later, so I’m hoping Pep will be resting quite a large number of his starting XI.

I don’t think anyone can afford Kane and that the only reason he will stay as long contract etc etc.

As you say the cup final is a Jose special, CL has to be Peps main aim this season and a few players rested and some early pressing will have a few minds in bigger games to come - the only issue being Man City’s C team are better than we are at the moment :(

Never a pen last night btw, good old VAR... not that we deserved anything from the game!

Wow, leaves a really bad taste to see that Spurs have agreed on their 30 pieces of silver to join this super league lark. Seems a rather extreme way to guarantee the european competition that Harry Kane wants in order to stay at the club.

If FIFA and UEFA ban all participating players from representing their countries at FIFA and UEFA events like the World Cup and the Euros he definitely won’t stick around.

Yeah, many more....

Funny how Arsenal are in the 6 given they have won basically nothing in Europe.

Good news on Jose, odd timing but ine assumes someone has been lined up

Strong rumour is that he refused to take the players onto the training ground this morning in protest against the Super League. Seems he knew nothing about it either, and didn’t agree. Huge argument with Levy.

He may have been shite, but at least he has principles.

EDIT - this has since been poo-pooed.

I’m sad in a way. I didn’t want him at the beginning because of the mess he left Manchester United in, but said at the time that I’d be delighted to be proven wrong. Disappointed that it went the same way, except without the trophies.

Just got told this on a Teams call - WTF

Reading all the comments about it, my hot take is that they are shitting it with talk up of Kane wanting out - and I don't think Kane had the same connection as he did with Poch - so something has to give

Easy money for Jose, again.

So the manager hired to specifically win a trophy who has not since been sacked after a final was pencilled into the calendar because the club has been hanging on to him possibly winning it despite sliding down the table has just been let go a week before playing the final. I can't stand Mourinho so it's quite funny, but that said, like everyone else i was thinking; well could he? We were all curious. Now we will never know.

That Levy sure is a genius. But wait! you might add, he hired Pochettino, the most impressive young overseas manager in years no one could possibly miss, and saved the money that could have been spent on rejuvenating the squad and threw half of it at sacking him and hiring Mourinho. I hope Levy rewards himself with a much deserved £5m bonus for his efforts in navigating the mess he made himself that no one else in the world thought would work out well.

It's easier sacking managers because good players cost shit loads of money.  When Crystal Palace wanted £80 million for Zaha, it's easier to tell managers that they will have to make do with £10 million-£15 million worth of players, and pay them £30 million tops to sack them.

Doesn't make sense from a football perspective, but from a balance sheet perspective, it's a great result.

Yep, agreed.  I said it before, but the issue is not Jose or Poch, it's the lack of investment because the bulk of the squad was awful two years ago - and needed kicking out then.  But obviously that would make Levy's balance sheet look bad in the short term.

Agreed. Investment in players has been badly needed for a while now. Whoever comes in has a job on their hands and will need a decent transfer budget.

I have no great hopes for the weekend but if Ryan Mason were to be in charge when we finally win something (not 'Arry, Poch or Mourinho) then that would be in keeping with the strange times we find ourselves in!

Matchday - fingers crossed they play with some verve tonight. Another interesting stat I read today, Spurs have played 41% of ball-in-play time this season being in the lead, second only to Man City. It’s that last twenty minutes that fucks us every time. I remember Solskaer saying that when he took over at Man Utd they were really unfit. Same issue ? Other than defending like an under-9s team obvs.

Anyway, #LevyOut #ENICout

Yep, should be interesting.  Very unlikely Kane will be playing though (dammit dropped Fantasy Premier League points!).  But I expect Dele, Bale, etc. to be back in the starting eleven and for us to play with an attacking swagger.

I love Mason and was pleased the club got him back after his career was cut short, he was one of those players who was great for the club and supporters but not quite what we needed at the time - madness that he is our manager but let’s all back him, I think the players are good enough to win a few games now as I think I said in here that I didn’t expect us to win another game this season with Jose.

Kane hasn’t trained so defi won’t be playing tonight fwiw.

I wasn't expecting us to win another league game under José - however I sort of expected him to fluke us the league cup. One of those awful wins we got when it looked like his plan was working. I'd much rather see us have a proper go at teams. On paper city should beat us every time but who knows how much difference a happy squad makes...

Spurs get the ball rolling again. They’ve been behind at half-time in six other games this season. They’ve gone on to lose them all. They’re the only side in the division not to turn a single one of these situations into at least a point. Can interim coach Ryan Mason buck this sorry trend? No changes yet.

oooh

FULL TIME: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Southampton

After a hell of a week, it’s a near-perfect evening for Spurs. They’ve turned around a half-time deficit for the first time this season, both Bale and Son scored ahead of the League Cup final, and the interim boss Ryan Mason is off to a fast start. Saints were the better side in the first half, but so poor in the second they deserved nothing. Spurs leapfrog Liverpool into sixth, while Saints remain in 14th.

Frustrating to watch. Bale did very little when he came on. I think N'Dombele or Ali should have come on for Lo Celso to give their midfield something to think about and give us the semblance of a threat. As soon as Sissoko came on we were buggered. Aurier had a good game but then gave the free kick away that led to the goal. The one decent chance we had fell to Hojbjerg who was too scared to shoot. Our forwards looked way off the pace except for Moura, and he got subbed. I think Ryan Mason got the subs totally wrong today.
