The Spurs Thread

After watching the problems today I definitely agree, we need another link-up player who can shoot from the edge of the box (looking like Arshavin) and another striker who can offer something different to Bent. He looked hungry but he wasn't getting the service today and it was frustrating. I think Pavlyuchenko could be a good call, he'd help Arshavin bed in and not feel too alone in the squad.

Still, I think the top priority has to be a DM, Modric was constantly outmuscled in midfield purely because Jenas couldn't offer him protection. I'm sure Ramos & co are still working hard to close quite a few things, but its so aggrivating that all of the things we've seriously lacked have been so much hassle in the market. The whole Corluka fiasco was the low point for me, he was all signed sealed and delivered and then Man City decide they don't like it and take it back. Shinawatra screwed us there something hard by getting our hopes up, although I do thinkt hat there is still some hope there its looking unlikely.

Also, where the hell was Ledders? We seriously needed him today and he didn't even come off the bench, if this was because of the photos of him pissed last week then its ridiculous IMO.

what a start for the boro, i got wheater in my dream team  what happened? what was spurs' midfield doing? im a fan of bent like i think he'll bang loads this season

They were just too strong for us, no-one in ours could hold the ball or break up their moves. Like I said we need to get this Veloso deal sorted or get someone else in ASAP or this will keep happening, especially against the, ahem, less stylish teams on the league.

Jeeeez, i go away and you lot let this happen :)

Having said that we generally do bad against boro, as do all the top teams so maybe it's a good omen ;)

Villa not a top team then?

last 4-5 years we've gone up to the riverside and flattened them

spurs defense wasn't right at all yesterday

hope they pick up and improve over the next few weeks, would love spurs to break up the top 4

Seems like Zenit have priced him out of a move, which is a shame as I would have liked him as our replacement for Keane. Who knows who we've got lined up and what will happen. To be honest I've had enough of the transfer window, the Berbatov situation is becoming a farce and belittling our main concern (league success) I hadn't realised the impact of the situation, I mean for him to be left on the bench regardless of whether he want's to leave or not is unforgivable, we should be playing our best eleven regardless. The whole situation with us losing our first game has confused me, and I wouldn't mind but we lost it with an extremely poor and lackluster performance, let's be honest- we were all over the place. I was confused also about the selection of Zokora at right back when Gunter was fit, where was our defensive mid and why were we playing Bentley on the left just to accommodate Lennon? And where the Fuck was King, Bale not starting at left back? The list goes on. I really am not sure what the fuck Juande was thinking or what the fuck happened, I'll say it again- I wouldn't have minded if we actually put in a half decent performance as opposed to a team that looked like they didn't have a clue. Oh and I almost forgot WHAT THE FUCK IS DAWSON DOING IN OUR TEAM, why we extended a contract belonging to a player who can't even get goal side is beyond me.

All in all I am not that worried and despite my ranting I actually believe this team will go far this season, It's just the disappointment talking after the usual excitement for our Spurs revolution.

I seriously have no idea why we put that team out, the midfield especially was utterly confusing. Ramos was maybe trying to reward performances, but when you're up against a much bigger, tight, organised team like Boro putting players in unfamiliar territory is never going to be a good idea. At least hopefully this will put the idea of playing Jenas and Modric in centre-mid to bed, we needed Hudd yesterday to add some muscle but didn't. The death of the Arshavin move and the news Fergie was at Blackburn makes me think that Berba is more likely to be staying now, which would definitely not be a bad thing.

Hopefully tomorrow Ramos and the transfer team will be back on it. This has definitely highlighted what we are seriously in need of, and now we don't have to worry about paying for Arshavin we should just man up and spend it on the essentials we're lacking.

What would you say the essentials were then? I seriously doubt that Berbatov will be with us come the end of the window regardless of Ferguson watching Roque.

A new quality defender (Ideally we'd renew our interest in the unwanted Burdisso) and a defensive midfielder (Veloso by the looks of thins). If Berbatov leaves then we'll have plenty to replace him and there are still a few players around who we could go for that'd be quality (although I disagree with you on him leaving). On top of that if Ledley needs to be on the pitch. If he's fit enough to bench he's fit enough to play at least a half so it's ridiculous he wasn't IMO.

I really hope you're right about Berbatov, and I totally agree about King, I can only think it was some sort of punishment for him being photographed outside night spots??

Do you think Veloso is still a likely target, I haven't heard anything on that front for a while now, here's hoping.

I think that's a possibility, but he shouldn't have punished everyone else for his mistake. Just dock his pay or something!

Last news was that we had agreed the deal in principle with club and player, but needed to finalise the actual amounts. Last I heard on it was last weekend but I think we may have been a bit busy with both the Berbatov thing and the Corluka fiasco.

If Berba does go, how do people feel about Santa Cruz being bought to replace. Same number of goals for Blackburn as Berba got for us last year, although he's a bit of a different prospect.

Oh man, I really hope we could land a player like Veloso before the window is down, he is absolute quality.

Roque would be a good like for like, I respect he is a different prospect but he would get us goals and he is very skillful (you just have to look at that take on Saturday) so yeah, I wouldn't mind, however Berbatov is fucking amazing so let's hope we can price him out of a move and at least keep him with us for another season.

If we can keep Berba then I say a defensive mid and another centre back would be an ideal end to the transfer window.

There have only been a few stories about him, but I think that may have been a better indication that we are closer. Modric and Dos Santos' transfers were so much quieter than the protracted mess that was Bentley's.

Just to pre-empt any 'Berbatov says he wants to go' posts, A Bulgarian guy on Vital Spurs listened to the actual interview and said that the entire thing has been taken out of context and he didn't actually say that at all. Once again I'd like to express my hatred for the gutter press, which atm basically includes the entire sports section of every major newspaper.

New rumour from an incredibly unlikely source - Wikipedia!

Now Don't call me insane just yet. Besiktas Striker Bobo's Wikipedia page was updated today to include the 'fact' that he has agreed to join Spurs in a £5-6million deal. This entry was quickly deleted, but not before it was seen and passed around.

Now this may sound like bollocks, but last week there were some rumblings about that we were looking to sign a young South American striker in a deal at around £10mil, and that the work permit application was holding things up as we made enquiries regarding the likelihood of him getting one. Bobo isn't a recognisable international, but he has just started to break into the Brazil squad so a permit isn't totally out of the question. Possibly someone who knows about the deal releasing it sneakily to avoid trouble?

Some Liverpool fans may remember

scored against them by him, nice little touch to take it over Hyppia (I think) and slot it through Reina's legs.

He looks like he's a pretty good player and for the money talked about could very well be a steal. 54 goals in 84 games is a decent strike rate as well, although I'm not sure of the quality of the Turkish league.

Oh well :P

I thought we played better today, defense looked solid and when Gio and Hudd were brought on and we were going for the equaliser we looked more like we did in pre-season.

But obviously we need some strikers, having one really isn't great and make our formation limited to either a 4-5-1 or 4-4-1-1 etc.

Redbloodcell, you can't still have hope of keeping Berbatov?!

I honestly don't know or care any more, although I expect Levy to stick to his guns regarding price so its down to Man U.

We've still got 9 Days left of the window, so there's still time but its more of a matter of who are we going to get now. We need defenders, if Kompany going to Man U means Corluka's free to come then we need it sorted. If Berbatov's going to leave then we need that sorted by then too, and we need replacements either signed or on their way in before midweek so we can face Chelski with some solidity. More than that though we NEED a DM , or at least we need Huddlestone playing.

*Sigh* Our whole season rests on the last week of the transfer window. We need to get shot of Berbatov, get a goal machine in (yeah right) and some midfielders who can do these rare things called 'tackling' and 'defending'.

I fully expect us to lose 3 - 0 to Chelsea next weekend, in fact, it's such a sure thing I might place a small bet like, say, my entire life savings on it.

But, oh man, are we going to have an amazing Carling Cup run again this season or what?!

Why is Poyet still doing after match interviews? Surely Ramos has a good grasp of English by now.

I think he's still worried he'll get something wrong and the media will try to score points with it. He speaks English to the squad in training etc, but when he does press conferences he uses a translator for the answers.

New rumour today that we're looking at Rodrigo Palacio from Boca, I think he'd be a good buy.

So looking at literally every single signing he's made thus far - has Ramos actually replaced your scouting department with a copy of Football Manager, or what?

If I was a Spurs fan I would be asking why the imminent arrivals of Pavlyuchenko, Arshavin, Corluka and Veloso (all probably on their way according to the reliable BBC) has taken right up until near the end of the transfer window. The dragging out of these moves and the ridiculous Berbatov saga has potentially cost Tottenham 6 points already. Damien Comolli and Daniel Levy have a lot to answer for.

For the same reason many transfers have been a shambles this close season, your lot should know all about it.

I blame the agents, dirty scummers that they are.
