Its so frustrating though , as I feel if we can sign 2 decent strikers to replace the crap we have now , we really could well get in the top 4 again and have some really good cup runs this season,

I think our wage ceiling combined with the fact that players get charged 50% tax here is causing problems with us signing anyone decent from Europe.

I reckon Defoe is going to have a decent, 20+ season.

Defoe has never actually scored 20 league goals in a season ever so I cant see him starting now.

Also if we do get a new striker I can see us playing either 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 formation which means Defoe will hardly ever play.

I used to be a massive fan of Defoe and have been ever since I saw him score goals for fun when on loan for Bournemouth. Sadly I just dont think he has ever really progressed like he should have and if anything his finishing is worse than it was when he was a youngster.

How do people feel about Adebayor coming to the club then?

Personally I've always thought he's quite overrated mainly due to his inconsistency and workrate. As a Spurs fan I hate the player with a passion, but I suppose that can all be swept away if he has a good season with us.

I would take any striker now to be honest as I think a one legged blind giraffe would score more goals than our current 3 strikers,

We also need another wide player someone who who can push Lennon on as he has really never had any real competition for his place and for me this has made him lazy and he hasn't developed into the player I hoped he would have by now.

What did you think of the game last night?

Great performances by Kranjcar, Walker, Livermore (first half), and Defoe. Really hope we don't sell since it seems he can play well in the centre, and Modric is going to leave at some point and I feel we may have someone to fill the gap right there. Walker looked brilliant, can see him going places if 'Arry gives him the call over Corluka.

Loving the look and feel of our play based on last night's game; fast free-flowing football, looking very dangerous on the counter-attack and when we build quickly from midfield.

Monday's game at Old Trafford is a whole different ballgame, but I'm pleased the players will be on a positive note going in to it.

Not really easy to gauge as Hearts were absolutely diabolical, we've not had that much time and space in a match for a long time.

Personally I'd prefer Niko to be playing with Modric rather than instead of, guy's an excellent attacking player and the familiarity they have should be exploited.

Diarra and Adebayor are looking likely it seems so when all fit I would love to see this team next season against the weaker teams.

......................Gomes.......................

Walker...King.......Gallas.......Bale

...............Diaraa....Modric................

Lennon...........VDV..............Kranjcar

.....................Adebayor.........................

I don't think you guys are in the race for a Champions League place. You look worse than last season whereas most other teams have improved (bar Arsenal possible but they were already way ahead of you to start with)

I would agree but we had loads of injuries tonight and I am sure we will buy at least 2 new players and one of them will be the striker we badly need.

Also apart from the 2 Manchester teams , I havent been impressed with anyone yet this season.

Liverpool were close behind you last season after an absolute disaster of a first half season. We have improved our squad considerably and have a much better manager for the full season now. Unless Spurs make some really impressive signings they will struggle.

It's true though you have injuries and your centre midfield pairing was certainly less than ideal.

What an odd thing to say based on our first game against a Man U side that looked pretty good. We need a striker, given we didn't have a full strength team out and played a team that just looked more match ready i thought we did ok, at 1-0 Man U had it won but until then it was pretty even.

I would suggest we can't really get into who will be in the CL frame as yet, but typical Liverpool fan - lucky win against a dire Arsenal and a typically dull draw and suddenly you are thinking you are odds on for the league no doubt ;)

Why did Lennon hesitate passing to VDV when he was clearly free in the box?! When Lennon did attempt to pass (already too late), he hoofed it in the air. VDV was rightly furious.

He's never been a complete player, he can run but his delivery has always been poor.

Lennon didnt even look up to see if anyone was there he just blasted it across goal with no thought at all.

For me he has to be replaced especially if we are gonna play with 1 up front as his movement is awful and never once does he ever get into the box to support the lone striker.

I think Harry thinks the same as according to him we were close to signing Mata but he just didn't want to join us.

Agree, I think Bentley was originally bought to offer us an alternative but that failed. Kranjar can play on the right, so can Pienaar, hopefully they'll come good since I seriously doubt we'll get round to buying a Lennon replacement in this transfer window.

Liverpool haven't impressed you yet? They had excellent form towards the end of last season, and they've strengthened to a ridiculous degree. Chelsea will probably be there as well, if they improve in areas of weakness. I think they're a dead cert for the top four, along with the Manchester teams as you say. They already have Mata, and with Modric sitting out yesterday's game it seems inevitable he will go too. It will probably be those four, they have the best squads.

If you can keep Modric, and bring in Diarra and Adebayor, maybe you'll have a shout. Of course there is no guarantee that the latter will be a success, he's a weird one, but he's certainly a lot better than what you have.

Nope Liverpool have not impressed me at all yet and I actually think if they lose Saurez for any time they are a very ordinary team.

Saurez is class though and the fact we did not buy him because Harry didnt think he was the sort of striker we need is gonna really bite us in the arse for years to come.

Liverpool were average at best both games I saw this season and gave us no porbs last season even with saurez so I don't see them as title hopes in anyway, they are miles of man u/city and even arsenal when they wake up!

It is for Liverpool and spurs to hang on to top four and with a striker we still have a better squad than Liverpool do, should be an interesting season all round and one assumes Harry has been getting funds sorted this morning!!

I agree, if we do get a couple of forwards and keep Modric we are still a better team than Liverpool though like them miles behind both Manchester teams and maybe even Chelsea now they have signed Mata.

All I can remember from the game at Anfield last season is how well King played against Suarez and hardly gave him a kick all game and it was King's first game for months and he still had him in his pocket.

Make that Sturridge transfer one with an option to make it permanent and I'd say that is a good deal.

Benayoun is a terrific player too, would give you good cover for VDV at least. I would be surprised if they would be willing to get rid of Sturridge permanently though.

I look forward to Adebayor playing out of his skin for half a season and then getting bored.
