Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The first two are just awesome entertainment, something severely lacking in any of the overbearing CG laden prequels.

there are very simple reasons the prequels are shite and the originals are not.

they failed in their story telling on a very basic level. episode 4,5 and 6 had a great narrative arc as we saw luke grow from boy to man and become a jedi. the story was told from his point of view and we, as an audience, identified with him. this is technical storytelling stuff. if you messed it up with too many character viewpoints the audience would lose empathy with the main character's struggle and find the films dissatisfying.

which is exactly what happened with prequels. who's story is it? obiwan's? anakin's? padme's? jar jar binks's? the answer is all of them. it had no single narrative arc driving it and we, as the audience, couldn't follow any one character's journey in a way that felt personal or satisfying.

people who like the prequels don't understand story. they like firework displays and special effects. the prequels failed on pretty much every narrative level possible. it was like george lucas wanted them to be bad.

The story spinning around R2D2 and C3P0 is what made the first three great for me, GL forgot all about that in the prequels and turned them both into pure (unfunny) comic relief.

The robot that served Kenobi and Gin drinks at the beginning of the Phantom Menace should have been C3P0, the story should have evolved round him just like before.

We could have had some nice animated Indy adventures a la original Clone Wars shorts - that would have been smashing! Maybe we still will, especially when Harrison Ford really does get too old to bend down.

if they do, they'll almost certainly be better than this film.

Here's a thing.. before Star Wars came out... even RotS - there was an excitement. Folks were really pumped for the whole thing. I'm just not getting that with this. Where's the hype - where's the anticipation and the excitement?

such a shame.

I was talking to a few mates last night in the pub who I hadn't seen for a wee while and they're just not fussed about this. Sure - they'll go and see it, but they're almost expecting it to be a dissappointment!!

5. THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPORER (30%)

6. GET SMART (29%)

7. THE INCREDIBLE HULK (22%)

8. THE UNTITLED X-FILES SEQUEL (20%)

You fancy seeing Sex and the City? Why? I cant think of a worse film to watch. Woman who looks like horse talking shite for 2 hours <_<

Hmm, good spot. I kinda glazed once I'd spotted Narnia and the Mummy.

Perhaps not Sex and the City, then.

Oh, ffs...This kind of comment makes my shit hang sideways. Ridiculous.

Please, please, please, do not go and see this film. If you do you'll just be in this thread all the time going on about what a travesty it was, even if you actually thought it was good.
