Dave, here's the tracklist as promised:

STAY ALIVE

01. Hotel intro - Moby

02. Heights Of Abraham - Striplight

Really nice introduction there - fits in nicely with the Stay Alive theme of the CD that was printed on the front. The second track is extremely cool as well. Never heard of Heights Of Abraham before but I'll be doing some Amazon based browsing for some of their stuff a bit later on I think. The track has a really nice, almost electro-sound to it. Fantastic beat.

03. Project Polaroid - Talk To The Romans

04. Jeru the Damaja - Ya Playin' Yaself

05. A Tribe Called Quest - Mr. Incognito (Previously Unreleased)

These three tracks go really well together. I love Jeru's delivery, and his productions are always perfect for the lyrical content. That mix into the ATCQ track is also great. I've never actually heard any of these tracks before either, so I guess thats something else to take away. Gonna need to do some research on Project Polaroid.

06. DJ Nu-Mark - Flute Fidelity

Never actually heard any of Nu-Mark's solo stuff. I saw him live a while ago so he might have dropped some stuff in then, but I don't remember specifically what he played. Nice production I suppose, just seems a little boring. Still its pretty cool for a two minute piece.

07. Pepe Deluxe - Little Miss Cypher

08. The Shortwave Set - Is It Any Wonder

The only Pepe Deluxe song I ever heard prior to this was that one in the Levis advert from years ago. 'Before You Leave' I believe it was called. Was a nice slice of weird pop noise. This sounds quite a bit different from that. Some nice drums in there and some cool ambient sounds in the background and stuff, especially towards the end. The next track is quality. Never heard of this artist either. Really cool piano-led piece with some quality female vocals in there. Will definitrely be checking more of that out.

09. Lemongrass - Journey To A Star (excerpt)

10. Jel - Know You Don't

11. Diplo - Big Lost

These are three nicely grouped tracks. They all seem to lead to the excellent drums in the Diplo track. Well for me, thats what they all build up to. The Jel track is very nice and ambiotic, but after several listens you kinda end up just waiting for that awesome loop that comes in towards the end and turns into 'Big Lost'. Might have to download a few Diplo tracks if they sound similar. Got any suggestions on where to start?

12. Air - Alpha Beta Gaga (Mark Ronson Vocal Mix)

13. Nightmares On Wax - You Wish

Ace. The whistle sample on that Air track is absolute genius. Never heard this remix before but its fantastic. I've got quite a few NOW tracks on my machine but not this one. I was close to buying one of their CD's in town the other day but didn't have enough money. This track is suitably chilled out and sounds great - much like most of what I already have from them. I'm definitely going to need to get one of their LP's soon.

14. OLD PEOPLE DIE

Suitably fitting for the theme of the CD. : ) Can I ask where its from?

15. Bonobo - Recurring

I was introduced to Bonobo I think a few months ago from this very mix club. This is quite a similar style to the track I heard before. Very nice.

16. Lefties Soul Connection - Organ donor

17. Gnarls Barkley - Crazy

Love the Organ Donor remix. Cheers for the link to it as well. Thats gone on my iTunes playlist, and after some searching around in Soulseek I also managed to get this Gnarls Barkley tune as well. Hadn't heard it before but it sounds like a fantastic project and I can't wait to hear more stuff from this match-up. 'Crazy' is absolutely fantastic.

18. The Herbaliser - Ginger Jumps The Fence

19. Phonique - The Red Dress

That Herbaliser track is awesome. I've heard that plenty of times before but don't actually have a copy of it. I love the bass line, and the way the drums come back in just over half way through after the nice keyboard melody plays out for a while. I'm not too keen on the Phonique track. Seems a little too obvious to me, but it fits nicely in the surrounding material, so in the context of the mix it sits just fine. Just not one I'd choose to rip.

20. The Go! Team - Ladyflash (Simian Mobile Disco Mix)

21. Chemical Brothers - Morning Lemon

22. Alex Smoke - 6am

These last three tracks are cool. I especially like how the Chemical Brothers track mixes into the Alex Smoke track. '6am' is actually a fantastic song to end on. It just feels like the end of the mix. The reucrring 'binging' in the background and the strings just give the sensation that you've reached the end of your journey and that everything is finishing as it should. I'm definitely interested in hearing more of this mans work. Any suggestions on similar sounding stuff here?

Thanks massively for the CD. I'm really enjoying it at the moment and, as I've said, I've gotten quite a few ideas for recommended listening from it. Any pointers/helpful suggestions from what I've mentioned above that I'd like to follow up are greatly appreciated.

In answer to your question about Mixmeister you do File\Export to Mixed Files and then check the box that says "save as separate files".

Excellent, thanks. I'm probably mixing my CD Mix Club tonight to be honest, and this will help me a lot.

Cheers dude,

: )

freefalling by tom petty :

you're a nice boy, and you love your momma, love horses, and your girlfriend too, but your mix-tape was just so not awesome, i'll explain why, just don't think i'm rude:

not for me, thankyouverymuch

You kidding?

That mix sounds quality - what could possibly be not to like?

Then again, if I remember correctly you didn't even dig Joy Division last month.

No hope. <_<

For future reference (if I get you to mix for next month) what do you like?

CD arrived safe and sound this morning acidbearboy, complete with the obvious yet still satisfying artwork <_<. I'll get it listened to a few times and post feedback in a few days.

Cheers!

Jolly good. Mr Do should also have a copy of it by now so I'll pop up a (spoilered) tracklist when either of you require. Although I think I correctly labelled the tracks on the actual disc for once this month.

Yeah I loved the NOW track but didn't think the rest of the album was great on initial listens. The sample that is looped I've definitely either heard the original of or heard it being sampled somewhere else.

Dave, thanks for the excellent feedback it really is appreciated.

I'll post a proper response tonight.

Yeah I've received my copy thanks, so I'll post off your CD tomorrow.

03. Project Polaroid - Talk To The Romans

17. Gnarls Barkley - Crazy

Project Polaroid is really really great. I was listening a lot more closely to the lyrics on the way home yesterday and some of it is very clever. Sort of about 0.75 of a Dr. Octagon.

I'm loving that Gnarls Barkley track as well - not only that but my wife loves it too and she normally doesn't "do" hip-hop (although arguably this isn't that).

I'm enjoying your CD, Vimster. It was perfect listening last night, as I came in kind of moody and pissed off. It totally changed my mood. It's all laid back and philosophical.

I would love a tracklist if you can give me one. I've listened to it through a couple of times now. Is there a bit of Jens Lenkman on there? Also, I like all the instrumental stuff. What's track 6? I like that one a lot for some reason...

EDIT:

Also, track 8 is particularly lovely.

Glad you enjoyed it. I did go through some of your previous music forum posts and tried to get an idea of stuff you liked. Here's the tracklist:

01 - John Fahey - Bicycle Built For Two

02 - Cat Power - Naked if I Want To

03 - Jim O'Rourke - Ghost Ship In A Storm

04 - Jesus and Marychain - Cut Dead

05 - Glacial Dreaming Tour Artists - In Dream

06 - Bibio - Cherry Go Round

07 - Hood - Enemy Of Time

08 - Manual - Tourmaline

09 - Signaldrift - Missed But Hopeful

10 - Eels - Estate Sale

11 - Yellow 6 - Long Saturday #2

12 - Stafrenn Hakon - N lgast

13 - Piana - Moon And Cello

14 - Barbara Morgenstern - Gute Nacht

15 - B.Fleischmann - Sad Star

16 - Boards Of Canada -5-9-78

17 - Freescha - Adominable Love (sic)

18 - DJ Vadim - The Larry Chatsworth Theme

19 - Michael Colina - Man Through The Day

Track 6 is by Bibio from his newest album Hand Cranked. The whole LP is that sort of thing, really really super stuff. His previous album is similar but alot grubbier.

Track 8 is by Manual. Very Robin Guthrie indeed, and no bad thing.

Anyway, cheers for the feedback, and I'm glad it was generally given a thumbs-up <_<

Thanks for the tracklist, Vimster.

I only recognise 4 of the artists on that list, and I have literally not heard a single one of the songs - which is totally what these mix CDs are all about I guess. What a great, moody, chilled out kind of mix.

Which album is the Eels song from? I keep hearing good things about some kind of big double Eels album that I should try...

EDIT:

Actually, which album is the BOC song from, too? I want to buy that one...

The Eels track is from Daisies Of The Galaxy.

The BoC track is from something called A Few Old Tunes Vol. 2, which I believe is a bootleg of old unreleased/hard-to-find tunes. It's a right old mixed bag.

Yes, it's really good when you get a CD from someone and there's something on there you may never have heard of, and it inspires you to go looking for more - that's what I love about all this. Even if one track does it, it's worth the bother. When you're involved in forums like this it's easy to forget just how conserative and unwilling to try something new most people are. But I won't bang on about that right now hahah.

I'm really feeling the laid-back, drifty stuff at the moment for some reason. I'm sure the next victim will end up with a load of DJ Scud, classic DHR and Merzbow or something

Never heard of Heights Of Abraham before but I'll be doing some Amazon based browsing for some of their stuff a bit later on I think. The track has a really nice, almost electro-sound to it. I literally only put the Heights of Abraha track on at the last second. There's another track available here:

http://www.comfortradio.org/comfortmusic/a...ts_of_abra.html and the album is at http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...3694463-7268413

03. Project Polaroid - Talk To The Romans

04. Jeru the Damaja - Ya Playin' Yaself

05. A Tribe Called Quest - Mr. Incognito (Previously Unreleased)

I've never actually heard any of these tracks before either, so I guess thats something else to take away. Gonna need to do some research on Project

Polaroid.

Project polaroid is a new project from Dr Octagon AKA Kool Keith however I don't think the album is released yet (it was posted on the forum). If you've not heard it you should definitely get Dr Octagonecologist - great album. Jeru's also someone new to me although I'm planning to get the sun rises in the east. The ATCQ track is from an album called Hits, rarities and remixes.

06. DJ Nu-Mark - Flute Fidelity

Never actually heard any of Nu-Mark's solo stuff. I saw him live a while ago so he might have dropped some stuff in then, but I don't remember specifically what he played. Nice production I suppose, just seems a little boring. Still its pretty cool for a two minute piece

Yeah the albums OK there's one or two decent tracks on there.

Never heard of this artist either. Really cool piano-led piece with some quality female vocals in there. Will definitrely be checking more of that out.

The Pepe deluxe album called Beatitude is a really strong album, much better than their first. There's plenty more stuff like this on it. Props go to Jimtendo for introducing me to The Shortwave Set I just got their album called The Debt collection and it's a beauty. Lovely crafted pop songs.

To be honest I prefered far preferred the Jel album called Soft money to the Diplo one although the Diplo track has got a superb beat.

The only album of his that I've got is called Florida.

I'm definitely going to need to get one of their LP's soon.

The Surfing on a rocket EP is well worth getting off iTunes there's some decent remixes on there. As for NOW I really liked this track but wasn't so keen on the new album. My personal recommendation for NOW would be Carboot soul by far but others might recommend Smoker's delight. I'll send you a couple more tracks if you like.

14. OLD PEOPLE DIE

Suitably fitting for the theme of the CD. : ) Can I ask where its from?

Just some random thing I picked up off the newsgroups!

15. Bonobo - Recurring

I was introduced to Bonobo I think a few months ago from this very mix club. This is quite a similar style to the track I heard before. Very nice.

Have a listen to Bonobo's live album if you liked this.

Man, I love both of these songs. A great cover of one of my favourite Shadow tracks and a superb track that is getting caned on Radio 1 just now a really great commercial track for once.

Surprised you didn't like the Phonique track - I did consider cutting it down a bit but never got round to it.

20. The Go! Team - Ladyflash (Simian Mobile Disco Mix)

21. Chemical Brothers - Morning Lemon

22. Alex Smoke - 6am

These last three tracks are cool. I especially like how the Chemical Brothers track mixes into the Alex Smoke track. '6am' is actually a fantastic song to end on. The reucrring 'binging' in the background and the strings just give the sensation that you've reached the end of your journey and that everything is finishing as it should. I'm definitely interested in hearing more of this mans work. Any suggestions on similar sounding stuff here?

The Alex Smoke track is off his album called Incommunicado which is a great album that almost reminds me of Underworld in places but a bit more minimal but definitely worth a listen. Similar? I've been listening too Jan Jelinek which is good but a bit more experimental sounding than Alex Smoke.

Glad you enjoyed it. The safety theme was a bit random but hey it's all for fun eh?

Thanks IFJ, I'm listening to mine right now. I like the sound of this one.

It's quite similar to the CD I put together this month in places, except more downtempo.

Cool, glad you're liking it. I'll post the track list when I get home, if you're ready for it.
