schumacher's took an engine change. looks like i might be right!

actually he'll do well to get to 4th. but thats what he does very well, get a good result out of a bad situation.

13th on the grid for schu methinks.

Wasn't someone saying that an engine change may be a good choice because the engine from the last race may not be so reliable over these 2 particular races and there could be a lot of engine failures among those who do not change?

Was the qualifying on at the early hours?

Indeed it was, and hidden away on ITV3 because ITV don't want to pay GMTV to interrupt their programming for just a qualifying session. The race will be on ITV1 though.

I am pretty sure Alonso (and Raikkonen?) have his car filled with fuel and will make one stop less than Fishichella. One stop strategy?

Rosberg keeps impressing.

i have a feeling schumacher will not be on the podium. 4th place at best. raik, from alonso then button methinks.

MS starts from 11 place on the grid with a new engine. He will be very dangerous!

I'm convinced Kiki Raikkonen is an android that Miki Hakkinen made to replace him at McLaren so he could retire early. He has zero charisma.

Managed to stay away from this thread and the news sites this morning to avoid spoilerz!!1 Not really worth bothering, so so qualifying session. Fisichella nipping pole from Button though, what a git.

I'll be up for the race tomorrow though. Starts at 06:30am I think Marsh.

Well done Jenson, front row! And look at Barrichello. I like this new qualifying. Is Fisi running light? I really hope I get up and watch this.

Race starts at 7am. The programme starts at 6am.

I'm prolly gonna try and stay up all night and watch the ALMS Sebring race too on Motors TV.

I wouldn't want to predict the result tomorrow, sure Alonso, Schumacher (starting 10th ain't the end of the world if you're fast) and the McLaren's are fuelled up, but if Fisi or Bunsen have the legs, they could run and hide. And you've got the two wildcard's in the Williams' that you can't rule out. If they'd been more aggressive they could have won in Bahrain.

So you've got a race with 8 potential winners. Closest. Season. Ever.

Sebring is turning into a cracking race.

McNish and Co stick the new diesel Audi R10 TDI on pole, have to change the intercooler and start from the pits. Now 5 hours in they're leading by 3 laps. from Interspot Lola and the LMP2 porsche spider.

If you have sky, go to 413 and watch the race live on motorsTV. It's proper raceing, 12 hours worth.

I love live GT racing, you can have it sat in the background adding nice ambience and you can dip in and out whenever you fancy.

The diesel Audi is amazing it has to be said. It sounds like a proper racing car too, which was my initial worry. I knew it wouldn't sound like a Transit van, but then I didn't think it would sound like a petrol car either. But it does!

The Ferrari F430 GT Berlinetta has stolen my heart though. So beautiful. ::):

I fell asleep at about 1.30am :P

Just seen the result and it's a blinding win for the Audi. back of the grid to win by 4 laps. stirling stuff.

Those Porsche spiders are looking a bit tasty, can they do 24Hrs ? The Aston Martin/Corvette fight went to the wire. AND Panoz with Brabs takes a win from the Flying lizard porsche 5 seconds down the road and the beautiful Ferrari 43 second back.

I may rethink my descsion to not go to Le Mans this year.

Malaysia was quite dull. It was one of those frustrating races where you see potential race winners getting compromised all over the shop. Glad to see Fisi win though after his disappointment of last week. Dunno what Rubens think he's playing at though. Another race like that and people are going to be asking serious questions about him and why Anthony Davidson is still sat on the side-lines.

The Sebring race was amazing though. Very glad I stayed up for that.

Next week we have the start of two more championships: The Danica Patrick Roadshow (formerly the IRL) kicks off in Miami (you can catch that on Sky Sports) and the fabulous V8 Supercars rumble into life in Adelaide (you can catch delayed coverage of the races on Motors TV).

The problem with Ozzy V8, is that's difficult to tell what's going on. being so far away i don't get the hype of feel like checking it out.

Except for Bathurst though. which i have promised myself i will go to one day.

Bathurst, the Daytone 500, the Indy 500, Monaco, that 24hr touring car race round the Nordeshlief (sp) and the Italian GP's at Monza and San Marino.

But only when i can afford the best tickets.

I think he means all the big "overtaking" moves and position changes happen in the pits, which is a bit rubbish really.

It kills the racing because the teams just 'race' to make a good pitstop, rather than battling each other on track and actaully overtaking each other.

I thought the race yesterday was OK at best, good to see Button on the podium and a great result for Fisi, but it was all a bit boring to be honest.

I had great hops for the season ahead after Bahrain, but Im not so sure now.

Was only one race - things could get really exciting again in Melbourne in a couple of weeks !

We need slicks. Higher power. Proper Gearbox. Clutch. An emphasis on mechanical grip. Tyre changes and suchlike mean jack when the cars are stuck to the road and messing up airflow as much as they do.

This man speaks sense. It was interesting to hear how Barachello said he was having problems with the car, as he was used to just planting his foot in the Ferrari and letting the car do all the work. Now I'm sorry but where is the skill in that?

Oh, and why is it that just because Ferrari were clever enough to use the rules to their advantage, it's cheating? Christ on a bike - if they are cheating why didn't they make there way through the pack as easilly as Raikkonen did in Bahrain eh?

Because they are cheating.

They found out the exact pressure points that the FIA's equipment used to measure flex and found other spots in which they wouldn't be found out.

Of course, their cars pass the FIA's tests so are technically legal, but are completely against the spirit of the rules. It's like McLaren's secondary brake they were running to simulate traction control back in 1998. It didn't break any rules, but it was against the spirit of the rules and they were asked not to use it again, just as Ferrari will be their wings.

When people first discovered the benefits of a flexing wing toward the end of 1997, drivers were getting into some really horrifying crashes. I remember Johnny Herbert being involved in a massive shunt in winter testing before the 1999 season when he was slipstreaming Damon Hill's Jordan down the main straight and the sheer amount of turbulent air coupled with the high speed and the engine vibrations ripped the wing off and sent him sideways into the wall at well over 210 MPH. And both BAR's suffered rear wing failures at the opnening race in Melbourne down that long back straight and at Spa through Eau Rouge, leading to the ban on flex we have now. We don't want to go down that road again, because that's how people will get killed.

But just because you have an unfair advantage, it doesn't automatically make you win - look at the Toro Rosso's that everyone was predicting to make a mockery of the restricted V10 rules and get points and podiums. They still haven't scored any points, simply because the advantage of the V10 isn't enough to overcome the shortcomings of the rest of the car.

I agree on everything except the manual box and clutch. Whilst they were introduced to make things easier for the drivers, they've also allowed amazing advances in engines and going back to a manual box would mean engines slower and revving lower than CART, GP2 and A1GP and I don't think anyone really wants that. The sound is one of the best things about an F1 car.
