Who was it who likes M83's Before The Dawn Heals Us? It's rubbish!

I bought it because I kept seeing it pop up in here in thread about music I do like, and now I have it and I don't like it. Clearly, this is your fault, not mine. So I blame you.

Foo'.

It' sublime, it's ful of emotional weight and intensity, something missing in most music of late. True, it's not as complete an album as Dead Seas... but it's certainly a brilliant LP.

Oh, and Fopp have got it for a fiver at the moment.

I also bought it because it was recommended in this folder. I think it might have been the albums of the year thread.

I like it quite a lot actually. It has definite moments of intensity. It's a bit like Takk... and other bits of electronica like The Campfire Headphase that I've been listening to recently, in that it takes time to build up its impact. The songs lack the short, punchy, traditional pop song structure, and they don't have the immediate impact of rapping in hip hop (which at least means something, because it's basically some guy talking), so they can be hard work sometimes. But when you give these albums the time and headspace they need, they can be really memorable.

But, for me, Before The Dawn Heals Us is not quite as good as Takk..., which is not quite as special as The Campfire Headphase.

What's not to your liking?

The (for want of a better word) rock structure to it. It doesn't have any of the good stuff I associate with electronic music, and in places it's just horribly hectic. And it's not like I don't like loud music - I do - but this just really isn't to my taste at all. Anyone want it?

I love this album. I only recently heard the first M83 album and didn't really like it as much as this one.

I wouldn't really classify it as electronica though, so if you were going into it thinking it was going to sound like that, then you were bound to be disappointed.

Nearly all of the voice samples are utterly utterly gash. I too bought it and was disappointed (and was going ot make this exact same thread!) but now I love "in the cold I'm standing" which is the most calmed down and best track on it I think,
