The 3D Thread

lol definately

mine was a bit hit and miss in places. The two larger buildings really look the part. Good idea to use window textures for the flats.

I think I can model pretty well, codemasters said if i improve my texture skills then I'm up for a job. So fortunately I think my project this summer is really gonna be textures first, modelling second.

It should definitely be a core module, when subsequent modules ask for fully textured things. That's Teesside for you. And they always say "It'll be improved next year!" I wonder what it's like now... The game art course should involve a double module all about texturing. At least. You should start modeling in the first semester of the first year as well.

Lets see... I did:

1st 2nd Final

C Programming > Graphical Programming > Advanced Graphics Algorithms

" > Programming for Visual Simulation

Intro to VR > World Creation > Interactive Virtual Environments

Computing Maths and Graphical Maths 1 > Graphical Maths 2

Digital Imaging > [stop]

[nothing] > Character Animation > Advanced Character Animation

[nothing] > Computer Animation Technology

Intro To games > Games Design > Games Futures

And of course, FYP. Looking at that, I'm sure I've left something out.

I didn't to Intro to 3D modelling, that teturing one or 3D modelling for games - in my opinion they should all have been core. I made misinformed choices in 1st year that have cost me now.

handing in saltburn on monday. Just doing some nice stills for it, and the dreaded report <_<

I'll post a few stills then start a new thread for feedback on the video another time. Really want to use this as a good portfolio piece, so if anyone can give me ideas about how to present this work better, please say so

THREAD NECROMANCY POWERS... ACTIVATE! <strikes pose>

I'm working on Kerraig and Sidechain's XNA project at the mo, so I thought I'd post some stuff as and when it gets finished. It doesn't fit with the Illustration Club thread so I thought I'd invoke the dark magicks and try to resurrect this thread.

Sadly it has to be a forum attachment as Imageshack is blocked at work.

First time I've done some of my own 3D modelling outside work for over a year

I'm modelling the ship from the awesome animated sci fi masterpiece  STARCHASER

pretty pleased with myself, you can get a lot done in a few hours

I'll post more pix once I've finished off the modelling and textured it up

god I've noticed a lot of differances between max 7 which I've got at home and max 8 that i use at work, especially with UV unwrapping. Max 7 has almost no options for mapping techniques or for rendering out your image maps either.

and my photoshop CS is either borked or its missing really important tools that i use every day with CS2

Hey guys, some really nice pieces here. I think it was you Utero, who made the seaside landscape from a picture you've shown. Can you upload the video again as it won't work and would love to see more of the final product. Alot of the links and images in this thread are now dead too, would like to see all the work.

I'm a Computer Animation student, just starting 3rd year in a few months and getting into proper meaty 3D stuff which we'd only touched on before so fancy learning it a bit again before semester starts.

I think we're using both Lightwave and 3ds Max but I've downloaded the 3ds max trial and gonna give that a shot as haven't touched it before ever. So does anyone know of the best tutorials to use to get used to it? Any advice would be most helpful, thanks! :(

Are you intending to do modelling, or animation? If it's animation (and though this advice will lead to howls of derision from Ryan :D ) I'd recommend XSI over MAX.

Hurry, get it textured!!!

That is awesome watersnake! Love that ship, brings back so many good memories.

(they wouldn't admit it, but that's Firefly's daddy)

I'd love to do 3D stuff, but it's way too mathematical for me.
