What I don't understand about Quickenings is that if you chain a Quickening with different characters then they all lose their MP, but if only the initial caster has full MP then the others can have little or no MP but still be part of the chain.

Seems daft.

When I have done that with 1 character the other 2 did not have their Quickenings at the beginning like they would normally do if you had all 3 of your party's MP bar full. When you shuffle, you still get the option to do a Mist Charge on the other characters which will allow them to use a Quickening. Using this method though does make it harder to create a good chain.

Ah there's a possible answer. Lamont was really useful in the mines. Chucking potions around like they were going out of fashion.

He only ever healed himself when he was in my party... :(

I spent a few hours in the Golmore Jungle last night fighting those dark sabre type animals, good exp! Also some other guys in that area drop an item you can sell for nearly 500 gil each, my trip to the Moogle in Eruyt Village was quite fruitful with 76 of them :(

Managed to get Ashe up to level 38 now with everyone else at 34/35.

What level did people manage to defeat the

big bomb boss in the Kalikawood?

I took him down at early to mid 40s - could be done earlier than that though, I just didn't have the patience for his cheating (he replenished his health fully 4 times - what a twat... suppose that's my own fault for not keeping a quickening chain option available but I needed to heal).

He's optional though so you don't have to grind for him yet if you don't feel like it right now.

I think I was level 32-33 then. just knock him down to half health and then use quickenings.

I'm doing subquests at the moment, just managed to total eight espers now :(

Just left Mount Bur-Omisace last night after doing Golmore Jungle. I finally actually managed to make some decent cash in Golmore Jungle in about an hour! 75k or so which I then blew on all the stuff I'd missed out on. God bless the for=100% - steal gambit on vaan.

Also managed to take down the

dragon in golmore wood with little to no problems. Sporefall gets a bit annoying but it helped a lot when I notcied Fran wasn't getting most of the status effects

The rather wierd thing is, for the last 2 zones, the recommended level in the guide has been around 19 yet once I leave Mt. Bur-Omisace, it suddenly jumps up to 25 odd. Oh well, need to make some more cash anyway.

I'm tired :(

Because I was playing FFXII till 1.30am :(

After all was said and done in the tomb, there was a cutscene and a bossfight. God, I don't know why, but it was SUCH an effort to do it. Took me too long to get enough control to get the adds down. Tried to use Penelo's quickening but balls'd it up (:D) so there went all her mana. Basch kept getting pummeled but survived quite well, until the boss went mental at low health. He cut through all my people - no mana - was throwing potions all around and praying physical attacks would be enough.

I thought I'd had it, too. Forgot I'd swapped two people out earlier - no mana :( - so brought them back, rez'd Basch again and got the last little sliver of life down.

I NEED to figure quickenings out.

Just practise on regular enemies near a save point - if you fuck it up you can refill your MP for free and then try again.

My mate doesn't get it either - don't know why. He's at the Stilshrine and ranted on at me for about 40 minutes about how the Blood Gigas' are cheating cunts after he got hit with a 3 hit combo 3 times in a row. Twas rather 'lol'.

I tried that enemy 100% hp = steal but then my other characters would attack before I managed to steal so the gambit would be skipped & he'd just attack. Doesn't bother me now though, I have monographs (not sure how many - 4-5) so just attacking gets me loads of loot anyway.

I used the start off that tomb to figure out how they worked, mainly since I wanted to kill that first damn demon wall. Not that hard though really is it? I mean, aside from trying to get the sodding mist charge to work beyong a 4th/5th hit with level 1 quickenings. :(

I quite liked the demon wall. It was exciting. Managed it without quickenings because I'm clearly quite stupid (:() but had outfitted everyone with fancy weapons so saw some big numbers. Died the first time because I just couldn't click the last torch, kept opening my menu :(

I've been a bit scared to try quickenings because of interrupting my 'flow' but I will dedicate some time near a save point to them.

I'm a short way past the Tomb now and am starting to really enjoy this.

The major issue so far is that it's possible to saunter round the Licence board without picking up any Quickenings at all. Once you've got a few under your belt and worked out how to chain them, the bosses become far more approachable. I'm now going to go kick some Cluckatrice arse before heading onwards with the plot.

I was pleased to discover you can kick off Quickenings even when you're silenced. Basch is like an armoured tank in my game, permanently silenced and armed with an axe, but he's also great as part of a Quickening chain.

I fought him once at about level 28/30. At first I didn't think I could beat him so I decided to do a Quickening chain. Got a chain of like 13 and took his HP down to half. I immedietly shouted my brother and said "look! I done that with one Quickening chain." whilst still looking at my brother until he burst out laughing. I turned around and noticed that the bugger had renewed and so I fled the boss.

:D

I was testing out the quickening's on the *first* demon wall. The one where there arent any torhes to click since I wanted to get one of them swords that the guide recommended. The upshot of spending so much time trying to get that first wall down was that I got the hang of the quickenings and I ended up collecting 3 of the uber swords for maximum damage. :D

A little tip (was useful for me) - buy and wear 6 golden amulets ASAP, first for sale (when I noticed) at Mount Bur-Omisace. Unlock the accessories license to wear it then every kill = double license points for all chars.

Demonsbane. You get them a bit after Mount-Bur-Omisace anyway from stores but watching my damage from swords jump from 230 odd to 650-710 definitely made it worth the effort of killing that first demon wall. :D

Is that using the magicite item from early in the game? I never really thought about using it, what are the effects again?

I think I'm pretty much done with this now, I have 10 Espers and have reached the highest Clan Rank, I've done most of the sidequests save the medallion one.

Most of the stuff left requires me to grind the next ten levels for little reward, and since I didn't get the Zodiac Spear, there's no point about being complatist about it, and since I've already completed the game, the rewards at the end don't seem worth it.

Huh. I just decided to try quickenings on some monster on my way to Rocktoise, and unleashed a four hit combo for 7k. I think I get it.

Just did both of those. The Nilhogg was pretty easy, even though my quickening didnt actually take much HP off him(thats the only problem the damage done can be a bit random) still I ended up having to use a phoenix down for the 2nd time in the game and then nailed his ass with standard attacks. Rocktoise was a tad harder though. Again my initial quickening didnt go as planned and I only got a 4hit. So pulled out the support party, tried again and nailed him with a 9 hit quickening. Next for me is the Cluckatrice then onto the Tomb of Raithwell -_- Got the sandsea to cross and I expect that to take a bit of time. A 1.30 session for me tonight :)

I enjoyed the Sandsea because it's a really good levelling place, and I made lots of cash.

Just got the Nidhogg and Rocktoise down, along with the Wyvern Lord which I managed to miss on my first run through that bit. Teleport stones make life easy, though! Cluckatrice will have to wait, rainy season in the Giza Plains now!

Still not entirely sure I 'get' Quickenings. I know how to do them now, but a 9 hit chain? Can't begin to imagine how you might manage that. It also seems like a huge gamble - you might only manage to get one hit in if the shuffles are unlucky and then boom, three people with no mana! Doh.

I never realised that each new level of quickening gives you more mana. Did I miss that in the explanation of them or something? Decided to spend some of the 800 odd licences points I earned tonight on getting level 2/3 quickenings for everyone and I just saw my mp fly. Wish I'd known that before. -_-

I've been hacking-away at this for a while now - not actually gotten far (back in Rabanastre from the Fortress) but I'm actually enjoying it at least (at the gameplay level) more than another other FF I've played (basically VII, 8, 10).

Story/Characters aren't great IMO - and there are some sloppy things in there (such as the sort of things Mr Jeff mentions above) where the game doesn't explain things - whether they are gameplay or story or progress related which annoy...

I left it for 2 days to get some work done and struggled like MAD to remember what i was supposed to be doing next as I had no marks on a map or clues as to my next step 'in the story' - and even when I remembered I was set the task of finding Balthier without ANY clue as to where he'd be (other than, presumably, being in Rabanastre!).

Little things it's easy to miss too - like Hunts having a (!) against the portrait if you're gonna get PIZZOWNED trying it - which I didn't notice UNTIL I'd been pizzowned...

Weapons you find/can buy but which I'm buggered if I can find the slot on the licence board to get to USE them (hiding what the slots are is NOT bright IMO - you're only gonna save - explore the board - reload, so why not just SHOW ME!!!

7 hours of play and the gambit system is still a mystery to me as well - it wants some dedication this game (I've completed a fair few games inside 10 hours and this one I don't even have the tools to play properly yet!!)

uh... this signifies that you haven't looked at the description of the hunt in the clan primer yet, or new information has been given by speaking to the propositioner or completing the quest...

License Board Map, very handy if you are struggling with everything being hidden

Gambits: Hated them at first. Spent 1 hr tweaking/learning the best way to do this - currently have all with a cure gambit and attack party leader's. Basch and Vaan steal when enemy is 100%. I still control the leader a fair bit (Usually Basch or Vaan). After my 'education', they're very good. ^_^
