I'm almost certain you get told that Balthier and Fran are going to the pub.

I think you can also talk to some of the random people in Rabanastre you say things like "Wow! Did you see that hot bunny chick and that han solo guy! Looks like they were on their way to the pub!"

I left it for 2 days to get some work done and struggled like MAD to remember what i was supposed to be doing next as I had no marks on a map or clues as to my next step 'in the story' - and even when I remembered I was set the task of finding Balthier without ANY clue as to where he'd be (other than, presumably, being in Rabanastre!).

I'm pretty sure it gives you a clue like "A thirsty Sky Pirate. I wonder where he would be?" I didn't even need the clue cause I already guessed that he would be at the pub.

I'm not really sure - maybe it's part of one of these "sell this and that and you can buy this" packages. I spent 1,000 gil and got 99 pebbles... I was annoyed as they're really shit, but 1,000 gil's not much anymore so not that bothered.

Another question: I've been told my hunt will appear in the Tchita Uplands when it's cloudy... but I go there all the time and I've never seen it cloudy... is there any way of speeding up the process? Can I just run between the Sochen Cave Palace & the Tchita Uplands loads of times till the weather shifts?

I've done that one, I ran between Tchita and the C___ Steppe.

I have the urn option too... I'm undecided... I might buy it for kicks when I get the cash...

Hm... I may get it then. I have 175,000 or so, and my main 3 characters have most of the spells I need & all the best equipment from Balfonheim so I've nothing else to buy right now anyway.

have you bought anything from the shopkeeper in the Necrohol of Nabudis? some interesting stuff there if you haven't already got it

That still seems very unnecessary...

I'm about to head into the necrohol, I seemed alright in the deadlands or whatever... dunno why, I think I've probably aready messed up my chances for the

zodiac spear

I dunno, I was about level 52 when I went in there, and while all the bosses were a breeze, the enemies still presented the occasional problem as they could still hit hard. Thank god for the bubble belt.

I read that the

Ensanguined Shield inflicts loads of status effects on you but has great protection - can you use it in conjunction with a ribbon for total greatness

?

I do the hunts and espers too! I'm a high guardian and I have 8 espers...

p.s.

what does the cat-ear hood do? I'm guessing from the description that enemies avoid you or something? auto-vanish?

Increases celerity, i.e makes you faster - although what It really does is make you guage start filling quicker - less dead time after an action. It also helps with weapons that factor user speed into their damage (Ninja Swords, Knives, Bows), it also bumps another stat, though I cant remember what off the top of my head.

As for the Ensanguined Shield, there's no way to avoid it's status ailments, but you wont be getting hit much with it anyways, especially if you pair it with a weapon with a high evade.

I saw reddas hit for an 11 hit combo once. true story.

The most I've seen any one else do is 4. right, it's time for me to mop up the last 3 espers, I think.

I already tried to get the zodiac spear - turns out I'd lost my chance to do it... oh well. anybody know where the other good 'ultimate weapons' are?

From reading the guide. The best sword appears to be bazaar goods, gained by Defeating Yiazmat, Omega and one other stupidly high HP'd enemy. Which is what you'd need the sword for IMO.

Completed the refugee camp bit and headed back to Rabanstre. I'm completing outstanding marks before heading North and im rushing to get 3 quickenings for all now at level 30, not far off...its such a massive advantage that extra mana.

Few questions for the experienced...

Managed to take down a level V mark at level 29, was tough though - Some blob down in the sewers who dropped a key. This key was given to me after collecting my reward, a sluce gate key. I presume I can use it back in the sewers, but for what purpose?

I also obtained an item through a side quest in the Westersand which will let me travel in the sandstorms, but I didnt seem to have any trouble travelling through the Westersand sandstorms anyway?

Regarding the first demon wall, is it worth me returning to nail him for that sword? (Im now level 30)

Cheers.

It allows you to enter the Wryms Nest, in the Northwest corner, usually blocked by fierce sandstorms. It's a boss arena for a big dinosaur (shouldn't be too hard at your level), killing him nets you some cash from the clan and reduces the chances of sandstorms.

the sluice gate key is used for 2 optional subquests -

you can get an esper in the sewers themselves, and the other quests allows you to collect the ultimate spear and another esper in the necrohol of nabudis
