Regarding the first demon wall, is it worth me returning to nail him for that sword? (Im now level 30)

Cheers.

Not really. At level 30 you should be able to get much better swords at this point. Depending upon where you are in te story of course. If you're just entering the Stilshrine of Miriam, there's a decent sword you can get from the undead there when you chain them for long enough called Icebane. Managed to pick up 4 of them to help out me characters. <_<

I'm on the giza plains which are now wet, heading for the thingy village, about 15 hours into the game. The enemies are pretty tough and i'm only level 14/15. Am I fucked?

I had a bit of a similar experience. I cracked on through the earlier stages of the game as I found the story quite interesting. However, when I started treking out in to new areas, I started getting my arse kicked quite badly. So I found a couple of areas that contained some interesting and varied monsters, and just wandered around levelling up for an hour or so. I managed to add at least a couple of levels to all my characters quite easily and obtained some good skills (as well as some money). I then returned to the city, bought some nice weapons, saved the game, and carried on.

Didn't really find it much of a chore, did a bit of much-needed exploring outside the main storyline, and then found it much easier carrying on.

I'm at the same point and at level 17/18 they're about manageable, though I've been jumped a couple of times and got mauled. I'd go and level up for a bit, it can be surprisingly good fun.

Completed the game at the weekend. Some thoughts & rough scores:

  • Graphics: 8/10
  • Sound: 5/10
  • Story: 5/10
  • Characters: 4/10
  • Voice Acting: 7/10
  • Length: 7/10
  • Fun: 6/10
  • Overall: 6/10

  • Characters weren't really developed - Balthier, Ashe & Basch seemed the most significant and you don't know that much about them do you?
  • Soundtrack was <=average.
  • Plot was thin.
  • The story never really seemed significant, even in the end. Didn't draw to a reasonable & satisfying conclusion.
  • I think I completed the end area, including all the bosses and videos in <30 mins without any trouble.

I'm a bit disappointed. It's a good game, but I don't think it's a good Final Fantasy.

I thought the voice acting was probably the best I've heard in a videogame... well that or a MGS game. Still, they were a world away from the irritation that was Tidus/Yuna voice acting. The language of the translation was pretty well done too.

I'm not sure about your opinion the characters either, I think that although they aren't as well explained, I think they're generally more interesting (or perhaps only intriguing). I tend to think of this game as akin to Final Fantasy Tactics, plot and character wise, sparser, but what is there is more interesting.

EDITed to make sense. I like the characters.

I'll admit I'm only a few hours into the game so far, but while the voice acting itself is okay, the actual dialogue makes me want to something very nasty to the translators (and possible the original scriptwriters as well, I can't be sure who is to blame).

Technically, the voice recording was awful, sounded like it was recorded at a really low bit rate, really hollow at times. The quality of the acting was some of the best in a video game though, I reckon. As for marking down the sound, voice avcting aside, you must be mental. I'm not sure what you mean about the characters either, they were really well rounded and brilliantly conceived, I thought. As for character development, this isnt a childrens cartoon with a moral ending or anything, and there was some development with the most emotionally stunted character (Ashe), it just wasn't as painfully over-exposed as it is in other games. Hourses for courses, I suppose.

Really well put. :) I can see myself going back to this game. Or at least doing all the optional subquests.

Well... I thought Balthier & Fran were quite intriguing, they were interesting characters, but they just weren't developed at all - I didn't feel like I knew anything about them when theg ame finished except who their relations were.

Ashe & Basch could've been good too but they suffered similar fates.

Panelo & Vaan though... who cares about them.

I actually like Vann, he's just caught up in events beyond his comprehension. Just like me and the actual storyline.

Balthier and Fran are easily the best characters though. Especially when she went all scary on the Leviathan.

I have been now killed 3 times in Barheim Passage!!! What level should I be at this point? I think I am about 8.

I don't remember names of things very well but if it's the bit near the beginning yeah about 8. What keeps killing you? The only time I died repeatedly was on the 4th hunter mark, but that was my own damn fault for thinking I can take on a ???? animal

Managed to finally give this some more love and I'm really enjoying it. It's the RPG for people that hate RPG's  which prolly explains why so many people dislike it.

As a guide, I've found levelling up all characters so they've got a 1:1 Level:Play Hours ratio keeps you from being raped (I'm up to 18 hours, almost everyone's Level 18, and I'm only having issues on a properly hard grind dungeon). Also, when you get a Guest character, aim to reach their level before progressing much further- yes, it does mean a two- to three-hour grind sometimes but it makes your life easier. You'll spot the best grind areas pretty quickly, and a 50 to 100-chain will also bring in enough loot to upgrade your equips nice and regularly.

I can't seem to get this chain thing. I understand the principle of it but I don't seem to be in areas that have enough mobs to smush in succession (sp?). Does it get a bit easier to chain later on? I'm about 12 hours in.

And Steven, I don't think you're gonna 'get' it man. I found it to be quite immediate in what it is so 6 or 16 hours in, it may make no difference. Still, aces if you do :)

Wow, what a game :)

Im about level 34 and

ive just got the sword of kings.

I have a few questions-

Where are some good places to level up/get loot? I always seem to be short of cash.

Ive bought the

monograph to get better loot from elementals.

I can manage to kill a few of them, but they never drop anything good, any tips?

I also have the same problem with chains, there never seems to be enough of the same enemy around.

We'll see. I'd got to the Mime-spider things and just gave up in frustration at having to restart fifteen minutes back every time I got mobbed and killed. I needed to learn how to set the gambits up more efficiently I think, hence the second try.
