Final Fantasy XII (Official Topic)

I really hated the Pharos. I chose to lose items, because magic is necessary for healing, attacking is necessary for defending yourself & you're not going to be wandering around at random... plus, when was the last time anyone actually used an item? Minus the odd phoenix down I've not used one in ages, and you have Raise/Arise for that anyway.

I kept items just incase I might have to use things that esuna couldn't cure. Besides even when you get rid of mini map, you can still press select and the map comes up so you are barely losing anything if you chose the no mini map.

Just sailed through the sticking point I had. It was slightly odd - not sure if it could have been a bug previously. I kept getting to a point in the electro-spider dungeon where I'd be just swamped with flans, zombies and mini mimes/mimes and my entire party would be wiped out in seconds.

Got to that point last night , healed everyone and braced myself for a mobbing. And it never happened this time - difference was night and day. Just walked through , pulled the lever, opened the gate - kicked big momma's ass and went about my day.

Noticed it was a little shy of three a.m when I switched off - whoops.

I'm really starting to enjoy it now - just wondering how to power my party up - assign them strengths or all rounders?

Thanks - may have to try that later on. It's saying you can do it at about level 35 though... hope my characters don't hit for too much at level 61-62.

I left it going for 24 hours, went from 38ish to 75ish.

The auto-levelling guide is basically what my brother and I don't like about Final Fantasy XII. On another forum, someone set his gambits up etc then put his characters in place, turned the TV off and went to bed. He woke up and his characters jumped from level 33 to level 44. That is why I don't like gambits, the computer plays it for you and you can do what you want. They always say "If you don't like gambits, then don't use them!" but the game is surrounded on how you use the gambits therefore makes it a lot more difficult to use without gambits. This game seems to me that it encourages people to be lazy and at times just feel like there is no skill involved. Here's hoping Final Fantasy XIII has a much better system.

I just found an awesome sword in the Fey Woods, it was just lying there in a treasure chest :)

Its called

Deathbringer, and it kills enemies in one blow every now and again. It seems quite random- ive killed three enemies in a row before, then it hasnt worked for 20 or so. Besides that, its extremely powerful anyway, at 92, and it is one-handed as well, so can carry a shield.

If XIII goes back to turn based random battles I hope the producer dies in a fire. :)

Each to their own and stuff - but are you not concerened this will completely ruin the game?

I'm level 32-34 slightly ahead of where you are in the game heading to the Phon Coast. Half of the fun has been battling with marks/bosses at I presume a level you are meant to face them, last night in the Salikawood I had an immense battle with errr a giant bomb who made me adapt and change my tactics to avoid defeat, I presume this would be null and void at level 70+

So effectively you will walk the whole game now, or is that the point and you just want to experience the story?

Aye - seems a bit silly to me... maybe on a second play through [though after I finish Yiazmat (if I ever do) I'll never play it again] I would consider it.

Though as mentioned above, I might do it for a few hours to help with training for Yiazmat - I don't think it's cheating. He's the one with the HP action replay codes on.

I got Yiazmat down to his last energy bar before I lost the will to continue; he goes completely mental at that point, and was killing my characters quicker than I could res them :) My guys were level 95 odd at that point, too.

RE the gambit cheat; it's up to you whether you use it. Just cos it's there dunt mean you have to use it. It won't ruin the game for me as I won't use it.

I need to set me gambits up properly. Or buy some more. Or both.

EDIT: I used 'use it' too many times. Bloody grammar.

There are two save points at the end of the first sandsea area (on the left side), one at the bottom, and one at the top exit (one is actually in the first room of the next area, but it's the same difference).

How did you die? If it was cos of the elemental, then that's your own fault really.

Didn't go near the things (big glowy orbs, right?) - just went down a ramp and got mobbed by the jawa things. Couldn't find a savepoint anywhere - wish it wasn't a case of luckily stumbling across one - frustrating isn't the word.

I haven't died at all outside of boss fights. Make sure you have healing/raising gambits at all times! If in doubt leg it!

I was struck down running like a scared girl and screaming. I've got healing gambits set up - cure self on everyone. What's this raising gambits business?

Yeah, basically you need to gauge how many enemies you can actually fight at any time. Try and avoid getting mobbed too badly. If in doubt LEG IT!

I had a rather comical moment in the Barheim Passage when I was getting chased by around 2 million zombies, with liitle MP and very little HP and managed to kill them all with a well timed series of Curajas. After running like a girl to get the MP up.

Started this the other day - 12 hours in and finally getting to grips with licences and gambits. Stuck on a particular hunt already though:

Cluckatrice. Not helped by all the mini versions that seem to swarm. Fran is in the party, (obviously), set to heal and shoot, and when the beast appears she is joined by Balthier healing and shooting and and Vaan healing and stabbing. They're all L12.

Are my tactics wrong or is it simply a case of me being too low a level? If my level is too low, can anyone recommend somewhere local for grinding - I don't want to push the story on just yet.
