I guess i've just learned to love the BCC commentary from the football. I quite like the participation and the nonsense.

But yeah, Peter Alliss is the greatest commentator across any sport. Only balanced out by the torture of having to listen to old Sam.

The participation and nonsense just feels like a wanky watered-down version of what happens on the Guardian's criket and then footy commentary though, to me. I'm just a miserable bastard I'm sure.

Hey, Justin Rose is off to a fine start then! And Tiger isn't quite finding his range yet! And the Europeans are mostly looking good!

I wonder how long it'll take for it to all switch back around like normal.

Aye I know. Apparently he's never shot below 70 on the opening day! I wonder if this time someone can get far enough ahead in the early stages.

Possible. From what I've seen of him playing he seems to respond best when he's in a corner and has to fight to win.

Casey and Poulter look well placed for the weekend, it's all gone wrong for Rose though. Tiger is having a mini-mare on 18 and just missed a tree by inches with his recovery shot. Some impressive scores at the top of the leaderboard.

What happened to Woods' club yesterday?

And Immelman & Snedeker were on fire at the end of that round, can't see anyone catching either of them. 2 horse race at most now. If Snedeker hadn't suffered a brain-freeze in the middle there, he'd be in the lead & looking favourite. I'd still have a fiver on him I reckon.

The traditional British malaise, ie cocking it up when it comes to the crunch at sports. On the radio they were saying an "unnamed" British player had said in the morning they were fearing for Casey as he's bobbins in the wind. So it went!

I know I'm probably too big of a Tiger fan to comment, by I thought that was the worst golf tournament i've seen in at least a year. Awful. You can't have someone 3 over in the final 3 holes win a tournament. The British contingent were typically embarrassing over the weekend thankfully - I thought the BBC coverage was truly shocking. Yes, hole in one. But do you have to show it twice an hour every day of the tournament? Gary was rubbish, Sam unbearable. Big shame, I was looking forward to it...

Oh, for sure. He didn't deserve to win, but then again easily could have done. I wasn't saying that really, more that it just wasn't an interesting tournament to watch. I think they set it up too hard, personally. Just like at Shinnecock, it made it no fun to watch. It says something that it was only made interesting at all on the back nine by people still expecting Tiger to do something amazing. I thought Trevor was awful yesterday, and was really lucky no one put on even the slightest move. Looked really nervous all day.

Plus, over 5 hours in two balls? Someone's got to get fined. :(

Soooo, US Open this weekend. Torrey Pines isn't known for being massively difficult, but they normally play in the winter, there'll be a lot more big bounces into the rough. I heard Phil Mickleson say about the course that if a single figure handicapper went round as it is now of the championship tees, they'd never break 100. Tiger reckons out of the 1st cut of rough he could hit a 5 wood about 150 yards. So, I expect it to be overly difficult, slow play and sometimes painful to watch.

Tiger's 2-1 to win, probably the best odds you'll get on him all year! PLACE YOUR BETS.

+4 winning score?

SO excited for this, gonna be an epic tournament this time I reckon. And as you say the course is apparently gonna be hard as nails by what everyone is saying.

Considering Tiger hasn't played since Masters, I still think he'll do it. (I'm a Tiger fanboy too, always have been, always will be, he is a LEGEND.)

This is the kind of quality reporting i'd like to see more of.

Elimination predictor

I really hope they clamp down on slow play, unlike the Masters this year. I don't think anyone can deny it was played at an excruciating pace. The course looks fabulous though, so I have high hopes it's going to be great.

I've been putting loads of crazy bets on first round leaders (the only thing really worth betting on with small stakes), but I have a feeling it'll be either Aaron Baddely or, controversially, Davis Love III. It'll make tonight more interesting anyway, that's for sure! I started my preparation for watching the tournament by coming back from Dormie 5 in a Epic match of Sunday to draw by playing the last 5 holes in 2 under.

Haha thats a cool article! :P

Been enjoyable so far anyway. Lots of ups and downs, reckon winning score will be even par or worse at this rate! Tigers still not out of it anyway after that crazy birdie after going inches away from a tree from the tee.
