Way things are going? What evidence is there to suggest that Sony is in trouble really?

Im talking about Japan BTW.

Im mainly basing my facts on that survey that was done. Only about 15% of people where interested in ps3, whilst something like 80% were more keen on the wii.

I think it's pretty much a given that Japan is now Nintendo country. That survey was quite shocking though, didn't think the home console would get that much interest.

Just wait until the whole Sony collapses. THEN it will be interesting.

The fact that no one can afford their console?

Speak for yourself. Personally I don't see it as that expensive considering gaming is a hobby of mine and I'll get ample use out of it for few years. The issue I have with the PS3 is paying for something I'm just not interested in, Blu-Ray. Those comments by Sony about "future proofing" are just utter bollocks, they're blatently trying to push this technology into homes via the strength of the 'Playstation' brand name. Well fuck that, I'll buy a decent Blu-Ray player IF it proves to be the leading choice, IF I see a remarkable difference in quality, and WHEN the decent players come down in price.

That's the thing. Is it really? Nintendo handhelds have always sold well and this hasn't always carried over to their home consoles.

True, but the Nintendo DS is the one that has really taken off. I really do think this is because its something a bit out of the norm - people seem to like to interact with it with the touchscreen etc. The same could be said about the Wii in this sense.

I think if Nintendo were just releasing another console that was comparable to 360/ps3 then perhaps people wouldnt be so interested.

But i still feel the Wii is underpowered for what it is.

What survey might this be, then? I missed that one.

Which survey??

Japan is only Nintendo land in regards to Handhelds..

A recent Amazon Japan survey found that people were more interested in the PS3 than the Wii by a margin of 33%

What survey might this be, then? I missed that one.

Regardless, the whole point is that they can utilise the momentum from the DS in a way they've never been able to when going from handheld to new console before because they've been designed with the same principles. People who liked Nintendogs/Animal Crossing are inevitably going to be interested in the Wii equivalent. If they get the software right then it's absolutely going to be a massive success on a similar scale to the DS.

That's the thing - the DS has attracted people who don't normally play games

Which means these people could go for the Wii especially as it's going to be cheap and they see stuff like Animal Crossing on it

Looks like the advertising has started - saw one of those flash/video adverts on mtv.com (it was on this page - may have to refresh a few times, you know what these adverts are like.)

I find it pretty interesting that I havn't seen this advert on any gaming sites yet...

I've just noticed something. That ridiculous thing they kept saying when they annouced the name, "It's not about you. It's not about me. It's about Wii." is nicked from Neil Diamond's recent Rick Rubin produced album.

No, its not about you

It's not about me

Love is all about we

Yes it's all about we

Say it's all about we

You and me

Say it's all about we

You and me

We ah-we ah-we ah-we ah-we

Love is all about we...

This has probably been mentioned so feel free to twat me on the head and yell "MCFLY!" but has anyone heard about this coded message in the press release about the US release dates for the DS, hinting at the Wii launch date?

July 25, 2006 - The fourth quarter of 2006 will herald a new era for Nintendo with the launch of its remarkable new Wii™ home video game system. But that's not what this news item is about! How could that be, you ask? Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item. You might want to pore over it for a few hours before staying up all night to debate phraseology and comma placement with your friends online. Or maybe it's all just a scam to get you to read the other games we have launching this fall. One of the two.

As the weather cools down, the Nintendo portable game offerings heat up. FINAL FANTASY® V ADVANCE makes its way to Game Boy® Advance SP on Nov. 6. As series go, FINAL FANTASY is to video games what James Bond is to movies. FINAL FANTASY loyalists will enjoy an opportunity to debate which installment was best.

Nintendo DS™ owners are the big winners. Every week or so, another huge DS title hits, from the Touch Generations title Clubhouse Games™ to fan favorites like Elite Beat Agents™ and Yoshi's Island™ 2. Clearly a gamer's idea of paradise, here is Nintendo's upcoming DS lineup:

That's the bit before the dates.

1st Feb 2007 then?

"One of the two"!

You heard it here first.

Does anyone know when the James Bond film comes out, btw? That might have something to do with it [/conspiracytheorist]

What if it's linked to the number of James Bond movies out. 20, 21? Assuming they aren't taking the piss of course.
