The ultimate Nintendo hero is taking the ultimate step … out into space. Join Mario™ as he ushers in a new era of video games, defying gravity across all the planets in the galaxy.

• Shake, tilt and point! Mario takes advantage of all the unique aspects of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller, unleashing new moves as players shake the controller and even point at and drag items with the pointer.

• Mario essentially defined the 3-D platforming genre with Super Mario® 64, and this game proves once again that he is king. Players perform mind-bending, low-gravity jumps across wild alien terrain as they experience platforming for a new generation.

Game storyline: When some creature escapes into space with Princess Peach, Mario gives chase, exploring bizarre planets all across the galaxy.

Characters: Mario, Peach and enemies new and old.

How to progress through the game: Players run, jump and battle enemies as they explore all the planets in the galaxy. Since this game makes full use of all the features of the Wii Remote, players have to do all kinds of things to succeed: pressing buttons, swinging the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk, and even pointing at and dragging things with the pointer.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Since he’s in space, Mario can perform mind-bending jumps unlike anything he’s done before. He’ll also have a wealth of new moves that are all based around tilting, pointing and shaking the Wii Remote.

So this is the fabled Mario 128? And it's still got bloody lives from the looks of the shot up there.

On the bright side, the thing looks like one big void level, and low gravity platforming could be sweet. Sign me up!

I'm so truly excited about this game.

Looks like there's typical Mario 64 platforming, Nights style freeform swooshing around and Ouendan-esque gesture tracing all set in a beautiful enviroment that reminds me of the ridiculously cool Raven boss level from Yoshi's Island.

You make it sound like the best thing ever. Which it might be.

It looks good, but the "space" thing could get old very quickly. I hope there are a lot more "traditional" levels... and I miss having Mario explore the Mushroom Kingdom.

Apparently the game is set on 8 different planets so there should be some variety hopefully.

I understand what you mean, but I think we need to let go of the mushroom kingdom, for 3D marios, at least! DS Mario should satisfy those needs! This looks like an interesting, and more importantly, FUN little Mario game. I know Sunshine gets a bad rep, however I still thoroughly enjoyed it (up until I finished it, with 70 shines, getting everything was a bit of a chore tho), I like the fact that they are trying to do something new with Mario!

Oh and its fully playable on the showfloor.

how much is fully playable though?

i really hope this is well into development and that we get both this and zelda as launch titles. surely with just those 2 it'd be the best launch line up ever, and that's without even thinking about all the other third party games in development.

I need impressions from people who have played it at E3, and I want them now.

As for launch, SMG,Zelda and Super Monkey Ball. Thats me happy for a good 6 months minimum.

Having watched the video a few dozen times it's clear those large stars placed around the levels interact with the remote in certain ways according to colour. Blue = grapple point, orange = super jump etc. Probably have every colour of the rainbow.

OT: I always wanted a mario level where it was sunny, and you made it rain so that these rainbow bridges would appear all over the level. It could still work in space.

There's SO much scope for trippy abstract visuals with the whole space theme. Already from the video it looks nice and stylised with hopefully some gravity trickery and twisted spatial stuff...

With Mario Sunshine I thought the levels all looked a bit too samey, and without harping on about every game having to have an ice/lava level, Mario in Space is a great open direction to take.

That lava boss on top of the planetoid looks fantastic too.
