Super Mario Galaxy on the way for Wii

If there's one thing I can't get on with, it's those mini-black holes that seem to replace ye olde 'bottomless pit'. I mean, yeah, a bottomless pit would probably be a worse way to go, but you can see your potential death in those black holes! A rather menacing and grim reminder of how easy you can come by death, I s'pose.

But yeah, fun game. Not best of year, but fun.

.::: But that's the thing. You need them! As soon as you see them you know you can't flip to the other side of a planet. :P They train your expectations of how the level will work.

Went to Asda on my way to work today, to be greeted with a blank space on the display rack where SMG should have been nestled. Disheartened I turned to leave, then out of the corner of my eye I spy a big box of Wii games behind the counter not yet put out, containing many copies of SMG. A quick word with a member of staff and a small monetary transaction later (£29.73) and the game was mine.

Just a day's work to get out of the way now!

you know what's sad - one day Shigsy is going to hang up his wiimote and stop working on games... what will we do!?!

I hope he turns his attentions to Zelda and Pikmin now.

.::: Game on. EAD Tokyo is clearly more than capable enough.

Haven't queued for a game in aaaages but did last night for Galaxy. God was it worth it!

I absolutely love, love the abstractness of it - proper videogame surreal stuff, like everyone's been saying it's impossible to play without grinning or laughing. Such brilliant use of 3D space as well, the whole 'down is up' thing is only (so far) disorientating in a good way, and it's the kind of thing that could've been a nightmare to navigate if it wasn't so well designed.

Was a bit wary when i heard about the orchestrated score, i dunno, it thought it wouldn't feel gamey enough for a Mario game - don't know why i was worried, soon as i heard the lovely lullaby tune early on I was sold. By the time I got to the

first junk level with the gorgeous piano tune, being pulled from star to star through space

I genuinely was in raptures. Tears in my eyes! Is that wrong??

Bloody Rocky Road. Grrrrrrr. I had a couple of goes, got scared and left to go to a safer planet. I'll be back though when I'm more practised.

This was the first level that led me to question whether the game is too easy. It looks daunting at first but I managed to breeze through it at the first time of asking, despite feeling like there were a couple of times when I should have fallen down the cookie cutter shapes. Therefore I felt a lack of achievement, but it would appear that others are going to feel more rewarded when they grab that particular star.

It was so, so much busier than I thought it would be. I tried as often as possible to get in front of the camera. :P

I thought the weird Zelda display was...weird. And it's pretty annoying that the whole queue was basically caused by people waiting for a signature.

The queuing in London was well chaotic - I had to ask the bloke what our Q was for at one point and discovered I could zip over on the right hand side if I didn't want a signature so I did just that. Also they had a batch of Wiis in and a whole bunch of middle aged men in suits just barged in and ignored the Q clutching blue raffle tickets.

Overall a more enjoyable experience than I thought it would be - chatting about games for an hour or so then getting your mitts on the goody bag (more useful than the contents actually) and the game itself. Then finding Oxford Circus station was closed, not so good since it delayed the journey home by 30 minutes.

As for the game itself, one big  so far although I got stuck on the water ray riding race thingy and called it a night then. This seems like the true heir to the N64 game which was my first ever game.

I didn't realise all the extra lives will be gone when I boot up again today but they are pretty easy to get so no big deal.

Absolutely this. It's great to play a game once again that doesn't try to be a whole, coherent, cohesive world. Instead you get a universe where every planet gives the game an oppertunity to show a fresh new idea. Add the gravity and 'true 3D' where up and down really mean something and you get something great.

I'm sat at work waiting for the day to end so I can rush home and play this more. I haven't felt like that in literally years. I don't think everything has fully sunk in yet even after playing it for 2-3 hours last night I'm still in a sort of gaming 'shock' I expect any minute now I'm just gonna stand up in work and say "screw you guys...I'M going home"

Well the Oxford Street "event" wasn't much cop IMHO

Queued for an hour, got into the store and was herded into one of two more queues; one long queue for a signed copy, and a short/nonexistent queue for a normal copy. So not being fussed about getting it signed I was in a out of the shop in about 2 minutes.

Didn't seem to be much of an "event" happening, other than a queue to get your game signed. There was a camera crew interviewing people in the outside queue and girls handing out fizzy pop in a plastic cup.

Anyway, hey-ho; I've got my hands on a copy and it's just 32 days to wait before I can play it. :P

Must have been quite near you then.

It seemed that everyone dressed up got their photos taken a million times including some poor bugger in six black bin bags. But that's fine - it was good just to chat and try to wind up some of the Nintendo fanboys a little.

I've got it sat next to me on my desk, and I'm working.

I feel like I might spoil it when I play it with the kids tonight if I play it myself first. I'd quite like us all to discover it together, if it's as wonderful as people are saying.

Plus the house is bloody freezing today, and only my office room is slightly warm. I think I'd be doing spins all the time by accident, as my hands would be shivering so much in the telly room right now.

Yeah the kid dressed as a chain-chomp (made out of bin bags) was quite amusing, as were the people averting their eyes from the demo pod set-up outside so not to spoil the game! I walked past the store at about 4pm and there were people queuing then, perhaps all the interesting stuff happened bang on 6pm I dunno!
