Super Mario Galaxy on the way for Wii

I was thinking after I finished my stint of play last night, I almost totally expect some sort of "Rayman in the Round world" or equivalent type game with a bastardisation of the planetoids and all over 3D/ gravity type stuff.

Although it's not quite as apparent as the massive jump that 3D was, I think that any 3D platformer that is now on the "normal" plain will seem very dated, will be interesting to see what copies we get.

PS. The loopdeloop world made me want a WaveRace for Wii though and made me really keen on Mario Kart Wii as well, really nicely done I thought.

Am I the only one who kept dieing on this level? I was really struggling to stay on the course.

So far, the only thing that could be described as shoddy are the cutscenes. The compression is easily noticeable even on an SDTV.

It's great so far but there are too many interruptions for my liking. I'm assuming they'll go away after a while though.

Unless you're me since I hadn't noticed it. If I notice this after you've pointed it out then it's all your fault.

Wow.

I'm not even the biggest Mario fan around (never finished Mario 64 due to incompetence), but this is just magical. I'm involuntarily grinning all the while I play it. And the graphics are wonderful, so colourful and vibrant. It's the first time I've played a Wii game on my HDTV and haven't thought "yuck". Puts any HD game I've seen to shame in all respects oher than resolution.

I did it on second go, you need to be quite subtle with your turning, you can actually turn quite hard but you don't really need to for most of it, the waves can make you bounce off course a bit though.

Yeah same here. If you get enthusiastic with the remote it's easy to bounce all over the place. Lovely watereffects here, it was pretty good. A bit easy though, I finished it on my second attempt with 21 seconds to spare. Hopefully we'll get more stuff like this later on but then a bit more challenging!

Pah you can keep your "best game ever", whilst shopping in London yesterday (waiting for the Oxford Street SMG "event") my girlfriend bought me a Mario "bead" in some backstreet bead shop (don't ask)

Adorable little chap isn't he?

I'm going to have to leave off early and walk down to Blockbusters for this, aren't I? Because waiting until tomorrow sounds like the kind of action only a madman would consider. I only hope my Wii can handle the abrupt transition from peaceful slumber to full-on activity that this and Endless Ocean have wrought.

Do it man!

It's a joy.

It's like a ton of void levels and mini versions the worlds from M64. This is nicely filling a little hole till mass effect gets glued in my 360. I don't think it's an Edge 10 but a solid 8 or 9. It's almost like what New Super Mario is to Super Mario Bros 1, lots of little levels and you never seem to do the same thing or have the same obstacle twice.

A nice new toy thats full of surprises, but once done, i can't see myself going back to it. There's a solid 10-20 hours of game here. Downsides are, it's a bit easy, i haven't died yet and onto 25 stars, and a lot of the stars so far have taken less than a minute to get.

SMG GET!

for free as well! (well, I traded Wario Ware and Bioshock for it)

Snaffles, everything I've read about the difficulty says that it really ramps after 60 stars. So casual n00bs still have a chance of completing it, but there's a whole other challenge in there for the hardcore. AFAIK.

No offence to you but I hate it when people say they got things for some low price or free cause they traded something in. It's like saying "I got my new house for free! I just had to sell my old one to fund it!". Or something.

P.S. Mario still loves you.

Turned it on. Ran around for a bit. Watched a cut scene. Turned it off.

Fucking rubbish, I hate it.

Having to go back to work, that is. When people invented the working week, why did they designate any day as a working day after a game as joyous as this has come out?

Fixed.

I know there's the intro and that but I played this for 70 minutes or so last night and only got 3 stars whilst dying thrice. I am crap but I guess I'll get more enjoyment in the long run! Less than a minute a star? They must be further into the game.

Some of the levels are very short and quite easy compared to SM64, so raking in stars goes pretty quickly. I've also seen a couple of these 'one-minute' stars and it doesn't feel like the kind of achievement of getting one after plodding through a torturous platforming section with a nasty piece of bossfight afterwards (although these are available as well so it's a nice mix).
