Super Mario Galaxy on the way for Wii

Good too see it's basically the same game with nobs on 10 years later

Yet we all know it will be better than 99% of all other games.

Hell even a poor Mario game (I'm looking at you Sunshine) is better than most other games.

I'm guessing the 'being fired from planet to planet' is kind of automatic. You regain control once he lands.

The fact they've stuck so much of that at the start of the video has me a little worried. I don't really like the idea of the flying given it's not interactive, at least not from what we've seen of it. I do like the way it (usually it seems) shows you where you're going to land before sending you off in a ridiculous arc.

Funnily enough the game's not just Mario being bounced around at high speed while the player tries in vain to point at things on the screen before they fly out of view.

You're going to have to refer me to the bit where I said it was.

Maybe that's why there's so much non-interactive flying. Each island is user-created and the whole galaxy is a combination of everyone's ideas through WiiConnect24. It's out Spore-ing Spore!!!

Even though it's looking more NiGHTS than Mario 64, and I have doubts over the motion controlled action bits, I can't imagine how anyone could watch the recent video with anything other than a massive LittleBigPlanet-style grin on their face.

I love one of the bits when you are propelled up - only to turn upside down and stick to the underside of another platform to walk around.

this looks as though it's going to mess with your head. Real - proper - 3D platforming... like a game full of void levels. oh yes.

There was a similar level in R&C3. The huge, spherical asteroid one. That was ace, but at times stomach churning. Hopefully SMG won't make me puke up.

I really liked this simple wee section of the clip:

Nothing too exciting, but that pile of ledges and blocks in front of eachother is probably how I would imagine Mario to look in 3D, had I no prior knowledge of a 3D Mario game. I'd be basing my idea on a 3D version of Super Mario Bros 3. That's what I thought about when I saw this bit.

The beauty of having levels made up of smaller, open, rotating planets, all viewed from a reasonable distance, is it should remove the camera woes that blighted the latter stages of SMS.

Who's upset? It's just the internets.

You can pick several Mario clichés in that vid, swiming levels, those star outline-things (cannons, to you and me). I'm going to go for a wander until I have something positive to say, lest I be accused of trolling.

Yea, maybe they should give him guns and let him drive a car this time. Maybe set it all in a real-time city or something? :(

Way to miss the point about what defines a Mario game. idiot.

Needless to say, I'm mad-excited about the game, it just looks like so much fun.

Trailer is massively exciting. Gravity effects! Petey Piranha!

And anyone complaining about these "rehashed, tired ideas" can eat shit as far as I'm concerned. It's got a completely new style of gameworld, some fun-looking Wiimote innovations, and it's on a massive scale. What the fuck do you want, Mario racing around in a car, or playing tennis, or beating people up? Oh wait...

It's a proper Mario game. If it didn't have the basic elements, it wouldn't be a proper Mario game. Go and play something else.

Looks like a blast to me. Trying to navigate those big spaces will be entertaining, and I like all this use of the pointer to get around. I can't help but wonder how much better Galleon's swinging system would've been if it had been delayed an extra 5 years and made a Wii title.
