OMG TEH JAGGIES!

:P

there's a lot going on in that 3rd image... rolling box guys to the far right, some kind of 'warp' area right at the very end.

The "warp" was in the E3 demo, it's basically Galaxy's equivelent of a "hole" (as obviously there is no down in this world).

Shitting hell! I absolutely love the lighting in this game. This'll be my reason for getting a Wii, unless Smash Bros comes out first.

Yeah the lighting is beautiful, but I'm worried!...you see, initially Red Steel also had this effect in its promotion stages but seemed to be not there when I played it, or at least it was toned down alot. Hope the same doesn't happen to this.

If it's taken out it's shocking. The slightly stupid thing is how easy that effect is to program (or fake in almost any 3D application going - just make particular surface normals much more reflective - possibly slightly emissive, you can do it with environment maps or vertex shaders).

My guess is Ubi didn't ever really have it running in engine. Depending on how you do it it could end up eating a lot of GPU space, and they maybe ran out.

Well, most of the time Ubi makes their games prettier in screenshots and videos, while Nintendo's screenshots make the games look shit. Yes, Super Mario Galaxy will look even better.

Damn, I really want to play this. Now.

The lighting was present in the E3 demo, I'm sure we'll see it in the final game. Oh mahn. :P

I don't know why everyone is so excited about this? It's just the same old Mario title with a twist.

Maybe because in ten years we've only had two of 'the same old Mario title'. This isn't ten-a-penny Sonic. This is once-every-console-generation-Mario.

It's been eleven years since Super Mario 64. This is only the third 3D Mario platform game and the other two were cast-iron classics. The first of them basically invented the 3D platformer and instantly killed it by being too good for anyone to top.

So why on Earth are some people NOT excited?

Well, i thought people/gamers should expect more (and they should), not just the same old rehashed title all the time. I mean, WTF is the point in that, i'm snoring.zzzz

I guess it's because they enjoy it. Every time I turn on any 'proper' Mario game I can't help but grin.

I would assume it's the same reason people watch the same kind of movies and listen to the same genre of music again and again. Mario 64 was the same 'rehashed' formula but, in itself, was fairly inovative. There's no reason it can't have the same structure as a 'classic' title without being fresh.

Seriously, Galaxy looks like being the perfect extension of the series. Same core platforming uberness, fantastic new setting that has significant but not whole-game-altering consequences. It's more different from 64 than World was from Bros, at any rate.

I'd like to know what detractors would like to see happen to the series.

"Rehashed, WHAT? He's bolting around space, walking about upside down!"

Yeah this is my point, he also did this in previous games too. Honestly though, this is the reason i don't buy Nintendo consoles now, there IP has become very tiresome indeed. Anything new gets announced and i'm like OK, been there did that. What Nintendo need is new IP and enough of milking the same old shit all the time. Its a joke.

I know most people in this thread are Nintendo fans (i was too), but enough is enough, you can only put out the same old shit all time before your fans will "eventually" get fed up of the same old IP.

"Nicely ignored. You sound like a Sony fanboy."

What because i got fed up playing Nintendo IP. Pull your head out of your arse and keep those sort of comments for the playground, son.

Once again, there have been TWO 3D Mario games. The first of which was so good, it killed the entire genre dead because nobody could top it.

When the game is a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy (etc), then sure, you get to call it a 'rehash'. When it's only the second sequel to the best game ever made and only the second Mario platform game in ten years, you get to shut the fuck up.

Hey, enough of the lip, i know when i'm getting spoon fed the same old shit with a twist. I'm saying that if like myself you've been playing Nintendo IP for the past 15 years, you'll get fed up with it. There no need to get lippy about it mate, there only a company for goodness sake. Grow up!

Your comments can mostly be prooven wrong. So your opinion doesn't mean anything regarding this topic anymore. You've simply lost and cannot be taken seriously anymore and when that happens theres just no point being here really.
