Super Mario Galaxy on the way for Wii

it doesn't really get remotely hard till about 50 stars or so I thought...

but that was always the intention. Shigsy said they wanted to make a game that anyone could finish - but hard enough to keep folks like us happy as well.

I'm finding it really tough at 70 odd stars.

Seconded. I hit 50 stars this morning and the levels have certainly taken an upspike in difficulty. Before I was easily romping my way through the galaxies. Now I'm really having to take my time.

I'm hoping the "love" will kick in soon. Maybe the 50 star watershed is the turning point...

I'm just not getting the "best game ever" vibe, all I'm getting is "very, very good game" ever, type vibe (that makes no sense, but I think you see what I mean)

Now at 110 stars, I think the challenge later in the game is largely artificial, specifically with the time limits and purple coins. I never enjoyed collecting the 8 red coins in Mario 64 and Sunshine. It was not challenging or fun getting them, just frustrating if you happened to fall to your death before getting the last. But at least it was just 8. Why they had to make it 100 now is beyond me.

Other than that, best game ever.

it's so full of amazingness - it's hard to take it all in. I thought I'd seen everything at 70 odd stars and then did a star on Melty Molten galaxy... It's crazy to think that huge amounts of players will never see the kind of stuff they've put in to this.

Melty Molten might be the best galaxy in the game. I just found out you can actually drop into the volcano. :)

Also did the hidden Dreadnought star. That took me some time.

I got stuck for a while on 84. I kept trying a purple coins one and was getting a bit frustrated. Finally did it, then pretty much straight away got the last

green star, which opened up the three trial ones. Two of those were among the best i've played. And the third was another fucking Manta Ray one.

But i'm very much back into it again and can't wait for my next session. Luckily I have let a few normal ones so there's about half of them left and half "comet" ones.

Hows this for a depressing 'back to earth' tale,

brought it round to my 14 year old nephew and 9 year olds niece house. Had a save file and they instantly went to last level. After 10 mins they were bored of it. They wanted to play mario vs sonic instead, played that right through the day.

True story.

Whoever thought up that damn Purple Coin Comet level on Luigi needs shooting - the bloody camera keeps on gettting me killed and the one time I had enough coins the f***ing star appeared at the beginning of the level with no way of getting back to it. ^_^

Yep, it's evil. You can move the camera though, it really helps. And once you get over the sheer cruelty of the star appearing back at the start, you can just about get back with long jumps, or just leave some green ones behind on the way out.

Yeah, Purple Coins on Luigi is definitely one of the hardest stars. Took me a few tries. Long jump and spin-hovering moves are your friends.

When I first encountered that stage, I gave it a couple of tries, then exited back to the observatory, thinking it was nigh-on impossible.

Went back to it a few days later tooled up with a bunch of extra lives, and it ended up being one of my favourite stages. You really build up a rhythm of jumping and spinning, and it's a showcase for how tight the controls are. It did fuck me off where, after about my 10 life, I finally got 100 coins, only to see the star appear over the other side, with no way to get it. Playing it at night, in an empty room, I still stood up and shouted 'Fuck Yeah' when it was finally beaten and it took ages for my adrenaline levels to drop down to normal levels.

Despite my initial misgivings this is turning out to be really fantastic, it's got that proper old school Mario charm that I've not felt since the good ol' days of SMB 3 and SMW. Every inch of every galaxy seems packed with ideas. I just hope the quality stays this consistent throughout, they just seem to putting so much "stuff" in each level

I did the exact same thing with my friend's save file last week, but we played Mario Strikers Charged and Super Mario Bros 3 for hours instead ^_^
