He doesn't; there actually are 242 stars in the game.

I assumed Hitcher was talking about the youtube video link "All 150 stars with 30 seconds to spare" posted by Professor Rob when he said "he means purple coins" as that's what actually happened in the video.

I really like the Purple Coins theme. When you're in the thick of a challenge like on that Video & that reprise of Gusty Garden kicks in, you feel like the most awesome Mario player playing the most awesome Mario game.

Or I do, at any rate.

Yes. I appear to have caused unnecessary confusion with my stupidity. Soz, all.

I've slapped this on for some Christmas gaming (it's perfect for it, you can't beat a bit of Mario on Christmas Day), and just got my hundredth star  It was the purple coin star on Freezeflame Galaxy, took me three attempts to get it (I was upto 99 coin on each try too, the incredibly tense jump for the last coin was stressing me out)!

Just 'finished' the main story with 66 stars, the end battle was suitably epic although, just like the rest of the game, maybe a bit too easy. Now that it's out of the way, it's about collecting stars until I get tired of it

Finished this this morning too... purposefully saved the final battle for Christmas Day... and loved it, grinning like a loon, screaming at the TV, with sweaty, tense palms... now determined to get the rest of the stars ^ ^

I deliberately didn't buy Galaxy upon release so that I'd have something for my parents to get me for Christmas, but typically my mum couldn't get a copy as it was sold out. Bizarrely, she did manage to get a hold of Endless Ocean, though.

It's a shame I won't be having a Mario Christmas, but I suppose a few more days aren't going to hurt. Too much.

The first one was fine, it was the one after it. It looked like I could reach it without a long jump at first (not quite, it seems), which fucked up my first try. The second try, the tension of having all 99 coins up to that point and the only thing that could fuck it all up and make me do it all again would be if I missed the platform... :)

And no, I haven't done those other purple coin stars yet.

I've just got that Luigi's Purple Coins star by the way, only took me a few goes. The trick is knowing there's more than 100 coins in the stage, not too difficult really. From what I can remember, there was a similar stage which had no timer and you had to collect all 100 coins (tell me if I'm making that one up), which was much harder I thought.

The 150 coin speed run videos I've just found on youtube are :)!

Just got this today (technically the kids got it but I've been playing it).

All I can say is.... amazing.

I thought the hype surrounding it (Edge 10 et al) might be a little too much but after playing for a while it just feels right. A true next gen experience.

Glad I saved this for Christmas day. Ultimate Christmas day gaming, it just feels right.

I see it differently. I played Galaxy when it came out and it felt just as special then. When it came to yesterday I had no time (or inclination) to play it or any other game - not even Wii Sports or any of that party malarkey. I now find Christmas Day gaming to be overrated - unless it's because you've got a new console as a present. When you're playing Galaxy it always feels as magical as any Christmas Day, so why save it for the big day itself?

For some reason I can't face playing another game until well into the New Year, but I've had some unforgettable gaming moments with games over the past two months or so - none more so than with Galaxy.

I received this for Christmas and started playing last night. It's just magical. I have literally been smiling since I pointed the browser at the disc channel and heard Mario shout "Super Mario Galaxy"!

Essentially it isn't doing anything new yet it feels as if it's turned the rules upside down, shaken them up, and then just liberally sprinkled the whole concoction all around the galaxy.

I've hardly scraped the surface I'd imagine and I'm savouring every moment.

All killer no filler and a return to the Disneyfied wonders of Nintendos past, present, and no doubt future.

Everything else in the videogame world right now really is just circling it's orbit.

Fab.

Having collected 218 stars now, I realize how true this is. This game is FULL of ideas that barely get deepened.

That is probably the reason I'd hold off giving the game a 10. I know there's areas where it can be improved or developed further upon, it doesn't feel like 'the complete package', regardless of how nice it already is.
