Super Mario Galaxy on the way for Wii

It looks so empty with those empty and often dark backgrounds.

The stills look very vibrant and full of stuff, but in the trailer it seems the only thing you see is where you have to jump to next without any environment around it.

But maybe that's just the bits of the game they showed.

I know what you mean. There's something a bit unsettling and isolated about what I've seen so far.

I wonder if that is a bad thing. The game is intended to be like a lucid dream. Its surreal and in that kind of enviroment you cant make it familiar and warm. I realy like the vive the game seems to be getting.

It has to be I'd say. How could they offer a challenge without creating moments of 'throw-the-remote-at-the-telly'?

I'm not the only one then. Good to know. I feel a primarily ground-based world was still the way to go, except diverging from the tired lava/ice/water themes. A space level by all means. This is Mario in Small Rotating Platforms Land; it's not really in space beyond the wallpaper. Nintendo could've dug up some older films like Indiana Jones and Star Wars for inspiration; basically created Mario in Pinewood.

The glaring problem for me is that Mario can't fall to his death without you really trying to kill him (remote concession again), which removes a major element of danger from earlier versions. In the video above, we see a 'Too Bad' message when dying... Ominous.

Edit: realised what it reminds me of: the first ToeJam & Earl. Sadly it's missing a lot of that game's brilliant touches.

Look at that bit in the video when Mario is trying to navigate past some sliding wooden floors with cookie cutter shaped holes. Platforming MANA, baby. And this game looks PACKED with it. Turning into a bee and flying onto a flower platform to collect some stuff? THAT'S WHAT THIS HOBBY IS ULTIMATELY ALL ABOUT -_-

Amazing.

I think it takes a special sort of creativity to find anything wrong with Mario Galaxy from what we've seen.

It's like the very essense of video games for me. Being a gamer always feels like a constant search for that perfect experience. I think this may well be it. I want to eat it.

And this.

How can anyone here not be completely in love with this game? How jaded and cynical can some people be, that they manage find something wrong with all the lovely -_- amazing :D 100% pure mario  stuff we've seen so far.

I'm trying not to say anything about this game until I play it. It does look sweet, but so did Mario Sunshine.

The footage of Mario Sunshine didn't really excite me actually. I didn't like the look of what I thought was a city-like hub. For me there was a lack of big fuck-off cartoony sliding platforms in the primary colours, and power-ups were nowhere to be seen. And he wasn't flying anymore. Don't get me wrong, I liked Sunshine, but at no stage in its development was I reduced to a fucking massive child again. Galaxy has done that. Seriously, I've pissed my pants and everything.

GAMES ARE BACK, MAN.
