Yeah yeah yeah 'cos

flying pirate ships, bombs coming out of the sky and smashing things to pieces as you run around the debris, a space ship coming down and ripping the castle out of the ground and everything based in and around different environments all space related

doesn't sound at all Metroid does it and sounds so Mario world. Although that said I was mainly thinking about pace (or lack of pacing) and for that I was mainly thinking about the start of the Primes. But regardless... Sonic yeah I could see it, Shadow definitely. Mario? After seeing the intro sequence I just thought that it was a shame I couldn't just waddle around the world, sit and look at the reflections of the castle, talk to some of the lil fellas and all that.

It just seems to me a slightly disparate mixing up of styles. They seem to have read the American manual that says that character development can only come from

conflict

and not through lazy exploration and enjoying the environment around you or something. And like I also said too remeniscent of Rayman 3 just better produced.

Maybe it's just a start thing. I loved Pikmin to pieces but with the best will in the world the intro sequence sucked. Similarly Prime was all sorts of aces but the game start wasn't enourmously well done. Sunshine intro was good but not great (poorly paced mainly and wasn't keen on the contrast and lighting and the acting was a little clumsy) so with a little bit of luck it'll fall into that format and be a top game once they've got past the dodgey first minute.

Ooooh I've said something world shakingly bad about Nintendo. There's gonna be a lynching.

.::: I saw Bowser's Airship. Frankly the intro struck me as being more Mario-y than anything that has come after SMB3.

The only 'out of place' thing was the UFO, imo. And it seems like you do have lazy exploration at the start. There's just already something happening. Even if it does lack Pikmin's pressure.

I thought it looked amazing...

also, we don't know what comes before - this is a 3d mario game aimed at the NSMB crowd and the WiiSports crowd as well. Of course there's going to be loads of introductory stuff for you to mess around and have fun.

I am really excited about this.. and I do love me my Mario games... But I dunno. The intro clip on the nin.co.jp site actually made me a little nervous about the game for the first time... Up until now I've taken it as read that it'll be an ace continuation and all that but the pacing of it, the whole city under siege thing... Dunno. It all felt a little Rayman 3.

Me I like Mario because the pace, at the start of the games, can be pretty lazy, it's about the exploration and playfulnes of the place and all that. The intro set up just seemed a little too much fast paced Hollywood stylee and sort of out of keeping for what I want a Mario game to be.

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know, dead inside and all that.

But it started off so well, the shot of Peach's castle reflected on the water was lovely. Then we go into 2 second long jump and pan shots and it all goes a little non-Mario...

Although I'll still buy it and hopefully my worries will all dissapear in the playing of it. But I do wish I hadn't seen the vid. Not bexuase it spoiled anything much, just because I wonder if I'll like it at all now.

That said technically they do look awesome - in terms of realtime graphics anyhow. Just a little too Metroid set up and not enough Mario having the chance to walk and explore for my liking.

I think you're over-analysing things to the nth degree, just relax and enjoy the game, it'll be amazing.

A UFO didn't really strike me as being out of place in a space themed game.

.::: The only Mario instances of UFO's are probably Tatanga and the Dr. Mario Virii Spaceship though. It's not exactly a Mushroom Kingdom invading staple.

LOL, somebody didn't play Mario & Luigi DS.

.::: Ah! Quite right, yes. The thing went past me, strangely enough. Need to track it down one of these days.

My athletes foot problem is not that severe.

.::: POST PIX PLZ.

Do you guys prefer less of an intro sequence. I.e.

"MARIO COME AND SEE ME AT MY CASTLE"

*Pipe appears*

*Mario jumps out*

That's it.

GOD THAT SUCKED. etc.

You lot don't know you're born sometimes.

I just watched the intro vid, very nice. Can't say I'm fond of all this 'story' rubbish they're so keep on forcing us to witness though. I agree in a small part with c-cat114 - where's the blissful opening of Mario 64, and Super Mario World before it? I like the whole 'being in a safe area to learn the controls' thing :o

I know the game will be all kinds of amazing though :( I mean, just LOOK AT IT.

Fuck you! It's not even about the 'intro', silly.

In order to lure Mario into space, she probably must've finally decided to use her flange as bait. I don't think a cake could've cut it.

I bet it smells of peaches. :(

The intro was all about mucking around in the castle grounds, and we were truly blessed in that case.

Just like this one then, except instead of just entering the castle and getting a text box saying the Princess has been kidnapped, you get something a bit more exciting.

Haven't seen the Galaxy intro.

I can't say I'm particularly bothered what the intro is like - once you get to control him you'll forget all about it.
