Metroid Prime: Corruption

I probably will, but not for a while. At the moment I got so much to play on the 360, and the Wii will soon get some serious Mario action so I'm not really willing to purchase something I'm not 100% sure about. But if Echoes is anything to go by, this game will probably be available for one or two tenners within 6 months or so.

If this were a PS2, XBOX, 360 title - I'd agree - but my experience with Ninty titles is that they simply don't go down that 'cheap' route as quickly as other platform titles.

You never know - but you'll certainly wait longer than you do with the other platforms for that 'bargain' price...

Getting back to my 'crash' from earlier - didn't repeat when I died again, nor when I beat that boss - hasn't happened since.

It does seem to kick 7-bells out of the disc tho - it's the first game which makes me wonder about the longevity of the Wii...

Steady on kids, Corruption is a bit simplistic compared to the older entries to the series (especially in regards to the level design) but it's still very good indeed. Well, it makes Halo 3's levels look as though they were custom built for a lobotomised monkey...oh...wait a second...

Well, I'm certainly having fewer "why the fuck did you design the game this way" moments than I did at this stage of Halo 2.

Finished. In three days, because I couldn't tear myself away from it.

It's a masterclass in game design, doing so much more with so much less than a lot of other developers out there. It's the reason we wait impatiently for, and practically revere Nintendo titles, and it's what the Wii so desperately needs more of.

Fan-fucking-tastic.

As flawed as Halo 3 is, I'm afraid it pisses all over Corruption from a great height, in every respect.

I don't understand why folks compare Metroid games to other FPS'...they're completely different? I happily enjoyed Halo 3 and will continue to do so. I'm currently enjoying Corruption. Now at Byrro and it's lovely.

controls are excellent. Would like to brandish a hefty shotgun with these controls.

This.

I started and played Corruption for 10 hours yesterday 'cos I couldn't stop. Its absolutely awesome, easily better than Echoes and i'd say its on a par with the first Prime, maybe a bit better with the new controls, added save points and more balanced bosses (well, from what i've played so far anyway).

.::: Added Save Points? Are people spouting random nonsense or is the new layout making people suddenly accept stuff that has always been there?

tbh, I never had a problem with the save points in the first 2 games but from what i've played so far you always seem to be close to your ship if you need to save.

Well, this is a bit good. Loving the shooting, though I'm still not totally sure I've got the right control system for me. To save me trawling the whole thread, what have other people found best?

I use the advanced option with lock-on free look turned off.

.::: Basic Locked: large deadzone; move cross-hair to edges to move view, lose aiming with most enemies when using lock.

Basic Free Aim: large deadzone; move cross-hair to edges to move view, locking on an enemy will still allow precision aiming.

Advanced Locked: small deadzone; keep cross-hair centred or view will shift accordingly, lose aiming with most enemies when using lock.

There's a third Sensitivity option but I haven't tried it yet. A Default new game will use Basic Free Aim.

Prime save points were fine - Echoes commited a cardinal sin with the spider ball boss save point though... other than that, they've generally been ok though.

I'm on Bryyo just now - it's lovely, the controls are great... feels more like Prime than Echoes to me, which is a good thing.

... and I like sitting in the ship and moving it around. How about a Metroid Spaceship Game!?

Not sure whether I'll pick this up.

On the one hand, Prime is one of the best games ever.

On the other Echoes was like Lost Levels, an ultra-hard, frustrating remix of Prime that I never finished.

From the movies I've seen attempts to make Corruption into a more traditional shooter are disappointing and cliched. However, those in the thread decrying the game for not being Halo... good, Metroid is not Halo. I'd choose Prime over Halo any day.

When this game got it's US release everyone was raving about it, now it comes out in PAL-land and all I read is "Edge were right!"

Hmmmmm. Perhaps I'll have to check this one out myself.

.::: Let's get one thing straight. Even at its worst it's still a solid game worthy of being played.

Depending on what you want it to be it can wildly differ from Best Thing Since Sliced Bread Served By Naked Woman to Worst Instalment of Franchise to Shootey Gamey With Scanney and Jumpy.

Played through the first level. I'm fine with the changes in principle because I generally find sequels a let down but the dialogue and characterisation has been pretty weak so far. It'll be a shame if they've taken away that nice sense of isolation in favour of a bunch of sub Star Wars cliches.

Yep, that's my problem, too. It's more of an issue than people are letting on, imho. If you can't do proper dialogue or characterisation, don't! Besides, Metroid is all about isolation and alien exploration. All that extra baggage really doesn't help the game, especially as it's not even done well.

People aren't making it out to be a bigger issue because it's only really for the first hour of the game.
