Metroid Prime: Corruption

got right into this last night - Randus took me ages until I realised

that I should be aiming for his neck!!

the extra motion controls, such as opening doors, using the grapple beam and activating pumps - are really well done and feel nice to perform.

Something I thought was a nice touch...

when using the hypermode and blowing stuff up - in the explosion there's a subliminal dark samus face

I managed to get an hour or so of this in last night and despite 10 minutes of slight motion sickness aftwerwards I was fine, something of an achievement for me.

I really enjoyed it. Because of the afformentioned motion sickness I rarely get to play FPSs so even if this is sub-par to some it's still very good for me. I'm not too keen on the visor selecting and pushing toward the screen motions tend to be a bit fiddly but the rest of the controls are pretty great.

We've just moved house and I rarely have time to play games at the best of times so it'll probably be months before I finish it but I'm looking forward to the adventure!

Hmm, I see what people mean about it being a dodgy start and then it gets better. It's fun starting off with a decent set of abilities and getting some of the more fun ones (grapple etc. ) early on.

These "Lizardo" twats or whatever they're called can go screw themselves, though. Enemies which don't respond to taking damage are always assholes.

.::: That's not half as bad as the fact that they double in health when you get a beam upgrade. So much for stronger weaponry. (Same with those phazon-balls, they're the Chozo Ghosts all over again.)

.::: Except that everything is far more bite-sized (which may be a good thing to some). Area's can feel very cramped and the sense of wonder and sheer distance travelled is very low, compared to the previous two. There aren't any areas like the outer reaches of Phendrana Drifts or the very utmost bottom of Torvus Bog for instance.

Having played a bit more, I can see exactly what you mean by this now.

Took out the first seed last night and am well impressed, one question i have though is how do you use the friends voucher things, I think I have about 3 or 4 now.

I inadvertently sent one to someone who it said doesn't have a save game file, so presumably it's disappeared into oblivion. What crazy fool thought it was a good idea to be able to send tokens to people who can't receive them?

Note to lucanvortex: if you do get this game, there may be a token patiently waiting to deliver itself to you. Or not.

I actually have this game! Haven't played it for a week or so but I'll check it this evening.

PAL version? It says in the manual that tokens sent to people in other regions will vanish into nothingness. On my list of recipients your name was greyed out, but it still let me send one to you for some reason.

Had a quick 15 minute go last night (thats the problem with buying 3 games at once while still playing Orange Box- no time!)

The people in shiny gimp suits on the space ship seemed a bit out of place in a Metroid game, talking to people just doesn't seem right. Why bother putting them there - it didn't seem to add anything.

.::: On a side-note, I did fell in love with the area holding the Screw Attack. The vertical aspect of it, destroyable floors, and then the ability (which still is limited in its movement, but hey we've been over that in Echoes). Also did a great job at making you feel lost and alienated.

And then the music started recycling little bits of Phendrana Drifts...

Yup, favourite area so far. (Though calling it an 'area' is a bit of hyperbole.)

Doh, I sent one to you when your name was Grey so I suppose that's been wasted. I have the PAL version too, so I suppose it might be that you haven't added me yet?

I've added you, Jarik, and sent a token to you. Your name was in black rather than grey in my list, so I'm not sure why I should be greyed out in yours. The system seems a bit flakey - anyone else had any success with this?

.::: Works fine. Takes a while to connect both sides, a bit like the Address Book of the Wii itself.

NTSC. Curses, foiled again!

Just checked and it has indeed vanished into the aether. How completely unnecessary.

Took the opportunity to send a couple to graham_s, bcass and rgraves.

It's gave it a few days but Professor Rob's name was still grey in my list. I sent the token anyway thinking it might get through. :(

Hopefully it should clear through soon then.

As an aside Cyhwuhx, how far are you in? I've found the levels getting more complex while the radio communications getting more rare at the

Assembling the Theronian Bomb

point.

I hate those Phazon Energy Balls though. At least with the ghosts you did'nt have to sacrifice an energy tank to deal with them, or if you tried to run having those almost impossible to avoid energy waves while you wait for a door to open.

It's hard to find the time to play, people keep harassing me in my spare time. Yesterday, I had to lock myself away to get some time in. Have to do the same tonight I'm afraid.

Wow, what a turnaround with this game - was braced for a clunky start after reading the reviews, but even so, the yawnsome space marine stuff (seriously, is there any more overdone scenario) just felt so awkward and wrong. The bit when one of the bounty hunters calls you 'Sammy'.... aagh!

I was never so happy to see a change of scene with the Bryyo level... and god, some of it really is so gorgeous. Even after playing the previous Primes i'm finding myself stopping and gawking at the chains holding down the moons, and the lava flows, and the metalwork designs... just so atmospheric, and leagues ahead of anything else i've seen on the Wii. Only had the briefest wander in Skytown which looks more impressive still.

Settled into the controls now as well... so as long as there's no swing back to the earlier schtick, I'm hugely relieved.

Cy and Scottcr, did you get the friends token I sent you?

.::: Didn't receive any yesterday. I'll check tonight. (Does the game track who sends you vouchers btw? And Alex W. send some! It'll be like Walexy points only real!)

Just started playing this (damn post office!, damn NOE! etc.).

The improvement in the visuals over MP1+2 is massive. The puzzles surprised me as well, I love the amount of stuff that subtly changes the environment as you progress.

I'm sure it's been covered in the last 99 pages, but is there a way to list achievements anywhere? Couldn't see it in the logbook. (Which reminds me:

"Icy Reptilicide"

- first genuine LOL moment in a Metroid Prime game, there :) )
