Metroid Prime: Corruption

It was brilliant in Prime how a Well-judged Charge shot or missile could send an enemy flying, ragdoll-style across the environment. In both Echoes & Corruption though, they just seem to soak them up & it's not as satisfying.

.::: Indeed, the lizards are the main culprits for this, it's like trying to break diamond.

Just picked this up this afternoon, the wife's away so I've got all tonight to get my teeth into it!

Man, this game is amazing so far.

Only about an hour in, been really taking my time exploring and scanning everything I can find. the controls work so well, and the morphball control is spot on too. Just done a great section moving through tunnels with fans in.

The graphics are superb too, even on my lcd, which is really saying something!

I'm assuming everyone's noticed that you can

see the reflection of Samus' eyes against the inside of the visor occasionally

. Great touch.

Onwards!

This guy's never player a Metroid Prime before!

Seriously though, you know all this 3Dization and whatnot? Well, I mean, going back to firing bullets intead of rivers of heat. The game would be so much better if you did use bullets, and you could shoot the baddies in parts of their bodies. And the actual Metroid typeface, it's totally out of place. I mean, sure, try and appease the purists but at the end of the day, fuck 'em. Don't stand in the way of progress, you know what I'm saying?

The eys are great although in the first game you could see them only under the right conditions so it caused maximum excitement. Now if you want to start into the windows of Samus' soul you need just actuvate the scan!

Hey, did it take anybody else ages to work out the command visor?? I was looking for the ship icon in the visor as opposed to on the planet!! What a durbrain!

I'm always impressed by the little touches. Although stuff like the reflection doesn't actually add to the gameplay in any way, it show that the developers actually cared about what they were doing. My favourite is

seeing your breath on the visor when you're in Vacuum.

Oh, and don't be an idiot like me and take an entire bloody hour to realise you flick the remote for a quick morph ball jump.

Yup. Right from the start. I found when I went to scratch my ear while in morph ball mode. Makes double jumps a breeze.

Glad I'm not the only one that was surpised by that being in it (it's usually a powerup later in the game)

I also got about an hour into GC Resi 4 before I realised you could actually run.

True gaming idiocy.

EDIT: tch, you replied while I was typing. You can use a bomb, but if you flick the remote, you jump without explosives.

Double jumps still need bombs, but the single jump you get by flicking the remote up is handy as you don't need to wait those few seconds for the explosion, which is great for getting through those morph-ball tunnels quickly.

Is this game much different from the first Metroid Prime? I really tried not to think of the first one as an FPS, and put in a lot of effort trying to like it, but I just couldn't get along with it. The whole aiming mechanic, and all the wandering around massive levels really just wasn't fun for me. As a result I skipped the second game. If this is just more of the same, I think I'll have to pass again.

It's all been a bit 'meh' so far for me, it really hasn't grabbed me like the first one did. I've just switched off that free aim thing though, and swapped the jump/shoot buttons- straight away it seemed to make far more sense to me. I'll have another crack at it tomorrow

Finished it last night, end bosses were'nt too tough, though I had scary moment when

I was at almost 100% corruption after beating Dark Samus & moving on to the corrupted Aurora. Fortunately I was able to draw in enough health pickups to recover & proceed to take it (him?) down.

Ending was'nt great, though it was nice touch that

Samus took a moment to remember the lost Hunters

.

Last thing I did last night was open the connection on foot between two of the Bryyo landing sites. It's not so small an area now. It only seems that way at first. Just trying to build a

thermonuclear device and nuke the site from orbit (only way to be sure, of course)

.

Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoying this. In fact, all I want to do at the moment is sit and play it, but life keeps getting in the way.

Really? I struggled until

I beat Dark Samus with around 10% corruption.

I'm there on Hypermode now and I'm getting owned pretty badly.
