Metroid Prime: Corruption

The thing is, therealjohnpeat, you're not saying 'I'm not very good at this', you're saying the control system/game is badly designed. Here:

It seems that every Wii game I play will come with cockbocks/vertical difficulty spikes - something which is intended to reduce your hands into shaking claws - when you simply cannot hit the (stupidly chosen in the first place) fire button again.

See? 'You [i.e. 'one'] simply cannot hit' a 'stupidly chosen' button.

hitting the 'broken' energy balls with the beam is pure pot-luck IMO
The lockon system (necessary to dodge around him) just doesn't work on such a big target which moves so much/is so close which means you're constantly having to retarget him - it's just shit tbh
the more I wonder if this motion control lark isn't more of a gimmick than 'the future'

...and so on. All about the game and controls being badly designed, and you surely can't take exception to someone disagreeing with that? For what it's worth, I've had no problems doing this boss and all of the others I've met, first time. I'm not great at this sort of thing - I know that - but I and many others find the controls much, much better than the pad versions. I'm also 'not very good' at online Halo, but I don't think the dual stick setups are shit, or stupid, or a gimmick - because they are patently not. I just think I'm not as well-suited to them in the context of that game as some others are.

You're not saying that you're a bit crap with the Wiimote though, you're saying buttons are 'stupidly chosen', hitting stuff is 'pot luck', the controls method is 'a gimmick' which in some respects 'just doesn't work' and is 'just shit'. Then you're jumping up and down and swearing at someone who suggests it might be that you're not very good at co-ordinating your movements.

I'm not going to suggest you fuck off to another forum though - merely that you take a different approach to that boss (as has been said, you should take out one sphere at a time) and change your control setup so you choose a different stupid button instead of the default stupid one. If that doesn't work, maybe you're just not suited to the game.

Though I like the game, it's a bit without... tension? Not sure that's the right word, but it all carries along at a laid-back pace and then throws another RSI-inducing boss at you to compensate it seems.

That's Metroid though, init? Personally I get pissed off if when moving from A to B I have to deal with anything that requires more than a few shots. I am happy they've sealed off the fighty bits as a bit separate.

This is a startlingly pretty game at points. I love the lifts that have the cogs whirring as they move. It's apparent at this stage though that the scanning could do with being stream lined. I like the idea behind it, but the reliance on text is creaking a bit, and really slows the pace. There is just too much stuff too and my OCD tells me I have scan everything I see. I'd like to see audio scans a la Bioshock, and possibly scans that trigger picture in picture videos, along with tighter integration into the rest of game, maybe like scanning something and your suit triggering "Red Alert" or something.

.::: That's the one I just did... Was a bit gutted about how easy they went down this time...

The phasing isn't a problem at all, just wait until they attack for Sucky Time and stuff them with an Ice Missle and mucho Plasma.

I'm currently more concerned as to whether the metroids there are GaFe's or the Pirates'. If they're from GaFe then lord almighty, greatest plot continuity-fuck up YET. And they already screwed up A LOT.

An event near the end of the game points to

them being the Pirates'. You see that type being being "born" on the Phazon homeworld

.

I have a feeling that you will find the ending unsatisfactory though, when it comes to tieing up the Prime Storyline. :D

.::: Don't worry. Retro has single-handedly f*cked it up even before the first instalment was finished.

They referred to Metroid Prime being a metroid that OD'ed on Phazon and started harnessing parts of Space Pirate technology, creating an outer shell for itself (MP's first phase when you start the battle) and then retreating back into the final section, Impact Crater. Problem being that Impact Crater was completely sealed off by the Chozo, yet their lore referred to the Pirates and MP being all to happy to venture in and out of it without having the 12 Chozo Artefacts that locked it away tighter than a Tupperware-box.

DOH!

So they crudely axed all text referring to MP from the PAL versions (and the Player's Choice iirc) to make up for their blunder after it got pointed out in the NTSC one (along with the seq.breaks). As a result MP was never explained as to what it was, namely a corrupted metroid.

The thing became entirely ludicrous, when they named it Dark Samus. Which is actually Metroid Prime taking the shape of Samus her first Phazon Corruption. As a result not only does the name of this sub-series has lost any kind of meaning, we're also fighting a crude alter-ego, without Retro ever telling us why we should battle it in the first place, or where it came from. Though you can piece it together, it's kind of hard to realize Dark Samus is in essence a metroid. Which is the only cool aspect about Dark Samus in its entirety as Samus is destined to become one herself (as happens in Fusion and neatly fits in with the meaning of the word 'metroid').

Now imagine my HORROR when they presented Mother Brain as being a GaFe-invention (though I hope that gets fixed later on) and the metroids being at SkyTown... Really, either Retro doesn't care about the other instalments, or they're quite lax when it comes to researching the already existent lore. Though the f*ck up in MP implies both.

Anyway I'm fully expecting an incredibly crude reference to Metroid II at the end of Corruption, perhaps going even as far as already introducing Ceres. Just whatever it takes to make it seem like they 'get' the story, but implemented in such a way that it can never fit.

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

Err, Cyhwuhx you don't live anywhere near Carmarthen do you?

It's just that i'm expecting some kind of Mushroom cloud like explosion when you find out what's in the ending. :(

.::: Well by the sound of it you can kiss the Netherlands good-bye then (and certain fringe-parts of Belgium and Germany). :D

Fucking hell. Fu KING HELL!

Just beat one of the bosses on Bryyo, took 3 attempts and I was crippled by the end!

If this is what you get 10% in, what the hell am I coming up against next?! :D

.::: Assuming you've now got a chilly surprise in that arm-gun of yours it all goes downhill from there (though some people are having troubles with marbles...).

Yes, just acquired that.

Downhill as in "significantly easier"? Otherwise I may as well throw my remote off the balcony into the canal now and be done with it!

.::: Yes, easier. In fact it seems to be on a steady decline. The second proper boss, is do-able. The third is easy. The fourth is a piece of piss not worthy of the title boss. It's more of a time-sink to keep you from getting the upgrade.

Groovy. I really love the look and feel of the game, and all the exploring, so if it gets a bit easier I don't mind.

Are you using corruption mode properly?

Erm... not sure?

You mean the hypermode thingy where you hold + and get extra power shots, but then sometimes it goes wrong and you have to hammer the fire button to get all the extra stuff out of your body? That?

Yes. If you use it at the right time during the bosses then you shouldn't have to hammer the fire button that much.

.::: Oh dear, it has a 'correcting' blocking volume/invisible wall! :D For shame!

Bryyo, Hidden Court. Take the Half-Pipe up to the north side where there was an upgrade, from there Screw Attack/Space Jump to the other side towards the bridge east. You can easily get there, but no luck, you'll bounce off against an invisible wall. Tsk...

Yeah, I was trying that on this guy, but there just didn't seem to be enough time to get into hypermode before he whacked me, so I just used the normal fire mode, so it took about 10 mins to wear him down.

22% in. Does the % refer to how close you are to finishing the game or does it refer to EVERYTHING in the game? If you know what I mean...

crits so far

- Occasions where there is no indication on where to go. Then you try a particular place and not know if you're on the right path, just hoping you'll hit a trigger that starts the communications thing again. As a child with lots of time I'd love it, the whole exploring thing, but for me personally I'm at a point where generally I like to have the constant ability to have feedback on if I'm going in the right direction or not.

- The 1 and 2 buttons are a tad too low on the wiimote, feels awkward.

Heh, the hand-holding is funny. The game seems to a bit schizophrenic in that respect, sometimes it's adamant to force you into a certain direction and at other times it's just forgetting that. At all. (Though I personally love those sections.) Probably a side-effect for trying to cater to too many people at once.

Help me!

I'm at a nICE place, there are those dual walls that you can obviously bounce on but I think I need something to use them? God knows what. God knows where.

???

.::: Yes, you get them at the end.

Have you looked between your legs yet? There might be something DOWN there. You might even get a SINKING feeling.

no, I don't get this at all. Hmmm, though isn't there some under water base in skytown? Never seen it up close though.

.:::

I assumed you were at the Ice Cavern where you get the Screw Attack. Because the floor is kind of unstable there... God forbid you'd shoot a heavy blast at it...

Solved it at last. That warp zone IS infact this ice cavern. I smashed the floor and then for some reason didn't even think about the possibility of being able to smash the (new) floor again to go further down. I'm retarded. Anyway, I instantly got stuck again! The AUS thing told me to go to the GFS ship which I have done and can barely work out what I'm supposed to do there. There seems to be 5 energy things that I need to find to unlock all the doors and have to go around the entire solar system find them? (which by the way is one of my pet hate gaming cliches) I found 3 in the GFS, I hit one of those data things that told me one is in skyline (I can't find this info anywhere in my logbook even though it says it is stored). So now I have to search the ENTIRE skyline ANOTHER time.

THEN I read gamefaqs to make sure this is the case and its going on about going to the eastern skyline and finding 3 bomb parts to get a homing missile ability. So so confused!

Ignore the GFS Valhalla just now. You'll be told when to go back later on.
