Metroid Prime: Corruption

Sky Town is genuinely gorgeous - such a well thought out environment. I must admit to finding Pirate World a bit dull to start with. Opens up though and becomes much more interesting. The Vanguard is ace. Bryyo has a real Metroid Prime feel about it.

Loved the game I did. Not as beautiful as Echoes was, but more accessible. My 2nd favourite of a great trilogy of games.

Looking forward to seeing what Retro do next.

Echoes is your favorite? Not the original Metroid Prime?

That for me stands as the best in the trilogy. Corruption might be the "worst" in my opinion. But still very very awesome. I Loved corruption rather a lot. Echoes for me felt the most unwelcoming and the weakest title. It's really great too :D all the Prime games are great

2D hopefully!

Not been back yet, but I'm enjoying MP3 a lot. I think the 3D ones are great generally, but I'd love to see a new 2D one.

The industry tends to see 3D as progress over 2D, but it would be nice to see a series like this continue with 2D and 3D versions running alongside, or alternating or something. And not just with 2D versions on the handhelds, but amazing 2D versions using all the power of an under-the-telly console.

I just picked this up again after months of leaving it alone - Mario Galaxy and other stuff kept getting in the way - and have gotten completely sucked in now. Maybe it's cause I've come to it straight after No More Heroes but the environment design is really jumping out at me, especially Skytown and the Homeworld - I think Homeworld's black-and-red palette really works, a lot more than the purple alternate-world in Echoes. Plus it helps that i've gotten the naff space-marine stuff from the start of the game well out of the way and can happily wander the corridors of

the Valhalla (is that spoilery?)

alone with the sinister music.

Love the incidental touches, black acid-rain spots on the visor and the like.

I'd love to see more 2D stuff - I fear that the relative failure of Viewtiful Joe has put paid to that... but Nintendo are in a good position to do it. It'd also make some of these franchises more 'accessible' to new gamers.

some bits on the

Valhalla

are excellent.

I loved

walking into a room where there was no atmosphere - and the air rushes out... and then looking out of the window to see swarms of Metroids... a real Metroid armagedon scenario playing out

I don't think Viewtiful Joe has got anything to do with it.

finished it once, now started again and just landed on Bryyo.

:)

you?

I had it from US launch and then got heinously sidetracked, but made a concerted effort over Christmas to finish it and polished it off on New Years Day. Really, utterly loved it - as a gameplaying experience it's up there with the best as it's so effortless to play.

I'm still undecided about a second playthrough - I don't want to ruin the great memories I have of it by getting mullered on Hypermode difficulty, so I may just leave it. There's not many games where repeated playthroughs have helped my opinion or memories of a game to be honest.

I think this is the next stage in evolution of online gaming: getting your online mate to come into your single player game and do a hard bit of the game for you - beat a boss or something. Or maybe you just send your save game file over to them for a limited time, and they send it back a little bit further on.

I'd love a 2D version on the DS with Phantom Hourglass style draw-on-the-map.

I'm also hoping the indie remake of Metroid 2 doesn't get shut down by Nintendo. Anyone else seen it? It looks dead sexeh.

Might pick up Zero Mission again for the GBA slot of my DS, although I've already finished that. Hrmmm maybe Super Metroid on the VC.... but it'd be nice to have something portable. [/thinkingaloud]

Fusion's good too.

Skytown is one of the most atmospheric environments i've ever been in a game. Hearing the structure creak & see it shudder as it's ancient hovering thrusters malfunction is one the most vertigo-inducing moments i've ever had in a game, to the point where I felt relief to be safely back in the ship.

Yeah, I enjoyed Fusion, but it was essentially just more Super Metroid. I mean, more Super Metroid is great, but it would be even better for the kind of money and effort they put into each Metroid Prime to be spent on a 2D game.

Yeah, I think it's highly unlikely though, I reckon the nearest you'll get is the 2D sections in Mario Galaxy!
