not seen this mentioned anywhere but this is a new game for the GBA made by the WarioWare team.

from what i've read its full of mini games based on rhythm but instead of each mini game lasting 5 seconds they last for about 2 minutes.

looks like this could be anohther potential classic!

Why would GBA be a strange choice? It's got the biggest userbase, and I'd assume it would be cheaper to programme for.

Plus WarioWare GBA > All others.

There's 2 GBA ones though. I presume you mean the first, but Twisted is the best.

And someone's got to make use of the slot in the bottom of the DS. And GBAs are probably about £20 these days.

What the hell are you meant to do on that marching soldiers one though? Or was that just a cutscene?

There's an explanation of how that particular game is played in the window right next to the movie(in Japanese): From what I can gather, you control the soldier on the far right, and have to follow the drill sergeant's orders. I think you tap the A button to march, the B button to come to attention, and you press the d-pad to face to the left or right, all in time with the rhythm, of course.

Got this today. After 5 minutes of thinking "hmm, I'm not sure", I'm now completely and utterly hooked. To the extent of just having returned from a half-hour toilet break. Oops.

The mice hiding from the cat stage is just genius.

It would appear that, like Wario Ware, there are a host of unlockable "toys".

Again, it's just stupidly inventive. All devs should be smoking whatever the Wario boys are on.

thanks for the quick review.

it sounds wicked and i'll be picking up a copy soon ^_^

edit:

just been reading some more impression are it sounds like this could be the game of the summer according to them. also it seems like it could possibly top the jap sales chart, especially as its extremely cheap (sub £20 at play asia)

"Bomberman Act Zero sounds like the game equivalent of AIDS and Rhythm Tengoku sounds like the gaming equivalent of the cure for AIDS."

Simply put, this is the game of the summer. If you like Wario Ware, or any Bemani games, put in your order now. Each of the minigames lasts for 2 or 3 minutes and tests your natrual rhythmic ability to the max. At the end of a group of 5 minigames, there is a remix which will juggle between the minigames in that set. What sets this apart from Wario Ware is that there is actually a "perfect" level. Each minigame is a set length and you can learn the patterns and aim for perfection. You collect medals for good scores and can unlock other minigames with these. There's also a Rhythm Test option so you can see how your rhythm has improved over time.

Taken from my post on another forum...

It means "rhythm heaven" and it's a series of shortish (a minute or two each) games based on precisely timed button presses. You're generally given an example which you then immediately have to copy, and then it gets progressively harder. Do well enough and you unlock the next minigame. After about 6 you get a "remix" of all the previous stages, which has a single tune playing and the levels are interspliced to keep you on your toes.

To make things more interesting, as it progresses there are different things to try and put you off your rhythm. Such as in the baseball level, the screen zooms in and out and an alien starts moving around in his spaceship. Then the baseball player's face turns massive and then he grows rabbit ears...

I've just done a level where you're outside in the rain, and a ghost pops up and you have to fire an arrow at the right time up his nostril to shoot him through the front door of a house. As if that didn't sound mad enough, it goes into slo-mo when you get a successful hit, and a miss means that the ghost makes it to the other side of the fence and blows raspberries at you. To put you off your rhythm, the music fades out earlier and earlier so you can just hear the wind whistling and the rain.

I'm not quite sure how they dream up these scenarios, but I'm sure that sake and hallucinogens are involved.

Cool. I took a chance on this as it was only £18, really looking forward to it arriving now.

I assume that due to the nature of the game there is little to no text in it?

More than you'd think actually, but you'll pick it up no bother. The only slightly tricky one so far is the level with the marching soldier-types, but once you figure out the different orders barked at you, that's a cinch too.

I think one of the unlockables appears to be just a load of text so I've not figured out what that's all about yet, but it's pretty import-friendly otherwise.
