Just a question for anyone who knows:

Do Ferraris and other elite cars have ABS, Traction control and Stability management as standard features? ie. if I went and bought one from a showroom.

If so, surely if you turn them off - it doesn't feel as a Ferrari should do?

I don't mind playing with them turned on/off - just wondered.

Race spec cars like Touring Cars, Rally, F1 etc generally don't have ABS. Seems to be the consensus it's too great an aid to the driver's own skill. I'd probably turn it off on Forza if I bout the wheel, but I just cannot get that degree of finesse with that wee little trigger. No matter what I try, I lock em up and glide into the wall

All cars can have ABS, TSC and/or SMC either on or off. It's not set per specific car, it's set within the difficulty options that you can change in the menu or at the start of the race, it also includes options for the braking line, level of damage, ai strength etc.

I am pretty sure you missed his point here.

Ha, I didn't mean that.

I just meant does a Ferrari, when purchased (not in-game - at a showroom!) have ABS, Traction control and Stability Management as a standard feature.

Maybe I'll quickly nip down the local showroom and ask for a test drive, to check it out.......... now where did I put my drivers license??

"Some"

Most will have ABS as it is a safety feature. Lots will have traction control (of which some will have the option to turn it off, a "Racing Mode" button or similar). Very few will have stability management, but some will.

They'd almost certainly all be turned off in a pro race though.

I'll help out here

Yeah, the majority of supercars nowadays have at least ABS and some sort of stability programme. The more raw the car gets, the less likely it is to have it, but all current Ferraris have both, and you can disable the traction / stability with the flick of a switch.

As for ABS, I've not heard of a car which you can turn this off for, however it shouldn't cut in unless you're locking more than one wheel.

TVR (rip), only recently put ABS onto some of their cars afaik, and I think you could ask to have it left off.

EDIT: Man this thread moves fast.

I could be very much mistaken, but I think my mate's old VR6 Golf had a button for switching ABS off. Actually, it was probably just traction control.

This has bugged me about both the Forzas and the later GTs. Surely these features should only be on the cars that have them in real life? Seems crazy that I can buy a Mark 2 GTi with all this stuff on it. Why not just have them as upgrades?

Same goes with gearing, they should make you buy either an automatic or manual car.

There's my unrealistic rant over for the day

I was thinking of doing a lightning McQueen Car as they have the lightning bolts in the vinyl setup already, they also have some nascars to buy so its going to look reasonable.

No i'm thinking of classic Disney....

Erm....yeah....what i mean is i don't want Snow White on my R34, rather, something that looked really cool in the day and would look bloody cool on a car.

I got it today. It's too hard, like all racing games. I can't corner worth a shit.

I was like that in the demo, it takes a few plays to get used to being gentle with the triggers....but just keep practicing - you'll be rewarded with a FAR more exciting game (and you won't be a nancy).

Honestly....though, you'll get it and you end up racing off the 'seat of your pants', esp. knowing that the car control is all you and you start pulling off deft manuevers around high speed dog legs.

I think with them on you loose that sense of - its me racing and thats very important mentally.

(It is possible. Some guy quite near the top of the leaderboards is using a pimped out Charger. I downloaded his setup, but I can't apply any of it as he's got completely different parts to me.)

Only the 'Racing' spec parts are adjustable, as standard you can't tune the production cars (apart from tire pressure I guess, haven't looked). When you try and use someone else's tuning setup it'll show you which parts the other guy had that you don't. If you only bought, say, a racing gearbox with adjustable gear ratios and then tried to apply the tuning setup it should change just the gear ratios for you, everything else will still be left at default because they can't be altered.
