...although the rumours are that Rising Star, the people who managed to break Bub and Bob's first two games on the DS will be the ones doing it.

EDIT: Well, it might actually turn out okay this time, see post #36 (http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?showtopic=131908&st=20&gopid=3243771)

I avoided those 2 previous efforts despite being a big fan of the games. They looked woeful. Shame as now I have 2 DSs (couldn't resist a Lite) I've discovered the joys of wireless link up. Bubble Bobble over the link would be great.

Never a big fan of NZS though so I imagine they won't mess that up just to annoy me more.

I heard for their next game, they're gonna' take my childhood and then change it so I'm bummed by a tramp on my 6th birthday.

It's surely impossible to fuck up New Zealand Story though. Surely? If they shoehorn in a touchscreen control method and get the blind gibbon who did the boxart for the last two shitfests though...

I'm not hopeful, but we'll see. A decent NZS on the DS would be amazing.

My prediction for ways that they'll fuck it up:

1) When you get into a balloon, to make it move upwards, you have to blow into the microphone. If you blow to fast, it bursts and you fall onto a spike.

2) To shoot enemies you have to draw an arrow pointing to them. If they have moved by the time you have finishing drawing the arrow, you fall onto a spike.

3) Tiki's sprite is 128 pixels by 128 pixels, limiting your view to approximately 3 by 3 map tiles. You fall onto a spike.

4) If you pause the game, you fall onto a spike.

Hmm... yep, it's gonna be shit. FACT.

They royally fucked up the other DS games, so you can bet your ass this is gonna be identical in quality, eg., poor with a capital Piss.

Now if they included that bukkake vid as a bonus unlockable......

It wouldn't work at all with the stylus thought

So they'd have to go with a straight up platformer using both screens - like Yoshi's Island 2

That's precisely how they messed up Bubble Bobble - they made the levels 2 screens high, and so they didn't fit in horizontally any more so it had to scroll, leading to you getting killed by off-screen stuff. Also, the platform graphics and backgrounds where utterly rancid. At least Rainbow Islands had some nice tilesets.

Why do so many decent games companys have trouble getting their games published, when you get shit like this (well i hope it isnt shit, but look at bubblebooble and rainbow islands) released on the system.

2 classic games from my childhood ruined, and looking to be a third one too.

TAITO STOP WHORING OUT YOUR FRANCHISES TO SHIT DEVS!!

Everyone is blaming the developer. It's not like Taito just let them do what they want. It's more likely that Taito decided on the changes. It's certainly their responsibility to protect their own IP.

I can't believe that Taito wanted the games to be bad, though. While I know that licensors can be utter pains in the arse and mess with game designs, it just doesn't make sense that they'd so comprehensively ruin two of their best franchises. So okay, Rising Star may well not be entirely to blame but they are definitely complicit, so the thought of them handling New Zealand Story doesn't fill me with joy.

I've experienced publishers messing with a product to its detriment before and while I can quite happily point a finger at them, I also feel that I didn't do enough to protect the design and should have spoken up in it's defense more.

Taito MUST be happy with them. They MUST have signed off on the conversions. And they are going back for more.

All these games are pretty old IP's though so maybe Taito werent expecting to make vast amounts of money from them? I suspect it cost them very little to produce these games and they would have brought in more than enough profit to justify their existance.

Apparently its going to be set in Stockport. New Zealand Road Story.

 Fucking legend. I live about 2 minutes from New Zealand Road.

You don't get Stockport references on any other forum - I think that's why I'm liking it here more and more.

Heh! I grew up around there. Used to free-wheel my bike down New Zealand Rd every day on my paper round. My parents still live there, near Woodbank Park.

I'm on Carrington Road, fairly close to the junction where the Park pub is. Small world.

There's a few porn shops actually - two near the centre, but the other one I can think of is on the main road, practically opposite the Peel Centre.

Christ, this has gone OT.
