Why would you need a taxi when you can just restart from the text message? What am I missing?

You still need to drive from where the mission starts to where the action takes place. The taxi takes you straight there.

Something really annoyed me while playing.

I was doing Hostile Negotiation

(where Roman gets kidnapped in the warehouse), battled my way up to the top floor and killed the last dude and we got into the truck for a simple drive back. As I started to drive out though, I must have clipped an explosive barrel or something because the vehicle blew up. Now I get a text message saying would I like to retry the mission. I did the bloody mission (even the game thinks I did it as the dialog between roman and niko is still playing outside the hospital), I don't want to have to redo it after I have killed everyone. Feels like a waste of 30-40 minutes and I have no want to do it again so I am stopping playing it for now :) It should have auto-saved after they were all dead.

I guess its just one of those things, but its infuriating the thought of having to go back through it.

You aren't the only one who did that. A few people did, myself included. The only saving grace is that the gunplay through that mission is quite fun so it's not a complete chore doing it again.

Next time, look for a clean route out before driving off, so something similar doesn't happen again. I think first left takes you to a road.

Know what pisses me off most about this game, the damn mobile phone - i cant read it if i am sat back on the sofa !

Change to BIG text, might help?

You can only adjust the text size on the phone if you're playing in HD. SD users are stuck with one size.

Having said that, Synchronated was round at mine last night and he reckons the UI is much easier to read on his 4:3 SDTV than on my 16:9, even though my screen is physically bigger than his. Maybe the text is bigger by default on 4:3? I can't think of any reason why it would be, but you never know.

Edited to add: My problem with the phone text is not so much the size, it's the contrast. Black on dark grey just doesn't work well for me. If I buy extra 'themes' for my phone, will that change the text colour to something more easily readable? Or does it just change the phone's wallpaper?

The text message thing is mostly useless.

I've failed a lot of missions, most of which involve shooting. If there's shooting involved, and you're not so good that the mission is trivially easy*, then you're going to need body armour. Chances are that when you fail you've used up your body armour in the process of failing. Starting again with the text message starts you without body armour, so you have to go and find it again. If you don't need body armour, chances are you wouldn't have failed the mission. It's almost always quicker to save with body armour before starting the mission, then reload the save.

I kept failing the

helicopter chase

mission, and the text message worked brilliantly in that case as I didn't need armour, and it started me right near to where I needed to be. I didn't mind re-doing that mission over and over at all.

In most cases though the text message restart fails to do what it's there to do.

* generally I think the difficulty level of the game is spot on. So far at least.

People who have finished this game seem to think it's the best thing since bread. But they must have rushed through it like cockroaches to have finished it already.

I prefer to take my time with a game - however this game is a bit of a pain in the arse when you try to take your time. It's always trying to hurry you along. You're always worrying you're going to miss some shit. So really that's my major complaint about this game. It's just not relaxing to play in the way I thought it would be.

I'm beginning to wonder if I will be getting another safehouse. I've just opened the last part of the map and I'm still stuck in an obscure corner of Bohan at the opposite side of the map. I was expecting a new safehouse on each island as each one unlocked, like the previous games.

Odd. I haven't unlocked the third island yet, and I've got two safehouses on the middle island.

Anyway, I asked this before, but no-one answered...

Any tips on getting on the Sightseer acheivement? The one with the helicopter tours...

I know it's only a piddling 5 gamerpoints, but fuck me sideways if I've any idea how to get more helicopter tours other than the three that are on the middle island. I've read that if you wait around, different ones turn up, but it's just the same three helicopters landing in the same spots. Does the tour change, if you take the same helicopter more than once?

Ok, next GTA I really want Rockstar, more than anything, to refine these missions and more importantly the rules of the missions because it's getting on my nerves a bit.

I just had a few goes at Three Leaf Clover. It's a really really good mission, very exciting. But it still has these annoying quirks and rule changes that plague the whole game. Why, in a sandbox game, do I fail the mission if the AI allies get more than 2 alleyways away. It's so weird, why can't I just follow where they are on the map. The first time through I didn't realise you had to stay that close to them. They didn't die, but apparently I was 'abandoned'. The second time I failed because Packie wouldn't get in the car, the fucking moron. Checkpoints would improve the game so much. It's a really good mission on the whole but I turned the game off because I didn't want it to turn one of the best bits of the game into another grind of forced driving and replaying bits I've already done over and over again to get another shot at the escape.

I finally got the "lose a 4* wanted rating" Achievement really easily today, after failing dismally every other time I've tried. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but it was a very foggy day. As soon as I got my 4* rating I drove away and as soon as I was a few yards away my stars went grey and I was able to just drive down the road, hide behind a wall and lose my stars in no time at all. Maybe the helicopter couldn't see me (or even launch?) in the fog?

It was at once very, very cool and hugely anticlimactic. Especially cool if the fog really did affect the cops' visibility.

I'm still loving the game after the main story, though I've given up on ever getting the $500K achievement. I'm losing money far faster than I can make it now. Been doing a lot of vigilante missions, because I love them. Wish you got some money or something for doing them, though.

Any tips for escaping the police on (3rd island mission)

the mission where you have to break the guy out of the prison escort? I block the tunnel fine and kill everyone fine but I just can't lose the police as it moves to slow. They ram me when they coming head on at me and after 10 minutes of trying to lose them it explodes.

I did this -

Phoned Kiki and got rid of my wanted level!

I had just completed a big mission and decided to have a bit of fun, so I stole an Infernus (?) from the showroom and went up to the top of the middle island. Floored it and since there were not that many cars I kept on accelerating. Things were getting really blurry at near max speed, but everything started to go a bit funky on the textures front. Also, there was a dip in the road which it hadn't managed to draw it yet so it appeared as though I fell through the map only to hit the road underneath and shoot out the otherside almost achieving a blocks worth of air :) Great fun...

Shame I don't have Live as I would imagine racing online would be quite fun :(
