So I tried to sell a duplicate summer sale card for 6p, and it tells me some bullshit about how it won't list the item for 15 days because I haven't got "Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator"... which is an app for Android and iOS apparently. Fucksake. So I'm supposed to install an app on my phone so I can do some double-triple-quadruple-factor authentication bollocks, just to sell a piece of digital nothingness for 6 pence.

Unfortunately, yes. Blame the people who abused the system for fraudulent means. Valve didn't have much choice but to tighten security.

Steam Link + Controller now looks to be more of a bargain.

I've just gone for this, and with the combination of Steam credit from flogging cards, buying discounted Steam credit from cdkeys, extra discount with the facebook 5%, cashback from Quidco and from my credit card I've absolutely no idea what the actual cost to me of the damn things is in the end. Somewhere around £27 each (delivered), I think, and I'm still 4 quid in credit.

As a distraction from the stark and horrible reality, consumerism!

I spent £50 in the Christmas sale and now I've spent £50 in the Summer sale as well.  Balance.  I like seeing what others have bought, it might tip me off to a game or bargain I'm interested in but didn't know about, which is why I'm writing this out for you.

For just shy of £50 I managed to get...

Subnautica (40% off - £8.99)  I think this is the first ever Early Access game I've bought but I love the look of the alien underwater world you find yourself in.  It's a survival game, but apparently one that's actually quite laid back and allows the exploration and discovery to be the focus of the gameplay.

The Banner Saga (75% off - £3.74) Lauded, tactical viking game which has a strong focus on the combat and something I've wanted for a while.

Gods Will Be Watching (80% off - £1.39) Disliked around the internet for its trial-and-error nature but I've been intrigued by this point and click game and at this price obviously worth a punt.

Rebel Galaxy (50% off - £7.49) Not sure why I haven't bought this before.  Assassins Creed IV ship combat with Elite style gameplay in space and slide guitars.  Sounds perfect.

Vanishing Of Ethan Carter (80% off - £2.99) Just the right price to take a punt on this one, i.e. almost nothing.

Soma (50% off - £11.49) Again, something I've wanted for some time and really looking forward to.

35mm (70% off - £2.99)  Knew nothing about this before this sale but someone on my friend's list picked it up and I took a look.  RPS described it as "a less fantastical, more sedate STALKER."  So I bought it.

The Long Dark (66% off - £5.09) Had my eye on this for a while and looked a nice, stark contrast in survival games to Subnautica's more laid back approach.

Invisible Inc (66% off - £5.09) Widely lauded strategy game, always up for some cyberpunk tactical business.

Not at all shabby for a shade under £50.  I had my eye on, but didn't pick up this time, Californium, Everybody's Gone To The Rapture, Oxenfree, Life Is Strange, Dark Souls 2, Assassin's Creed Rogue and South Park: Stick Of Truth.  I might see them for Christmas.

I saw this and was tempted, but some of the reviews are a little mixed... after seeing your comment it's been brought!

Also picked up Toy Soldiers for 49p, worth a punt at that price!

Quite happy with my purchases:

  • Aces Wild: Manic Brawling Action! Came across this in my queue and thought it looked interesting. It's a 2D beat em up with a focus on aerial combat and combos. It also has amazing music. Only €2,50.
  • Dariusburst: Chronicle Saviours. Been wanting this for a while. It's quite expensive, even with 30% discount: €32,19. But it's really cool and it has loads of replay value so I figured why not.
  • Momodora: Reverie under the moonlight. I hadn't heard of this game before, which is weird because I love metroidvania type games. The graphics are really cute and the combat seems solid. Only 20% discount but €7,99 seems like a good price for it.
  • Space Channel 5 Part 2. One of my favourite DC games. Never bought it on PC because I thought it didn't include the japanese voices and I'm used to those. But it does. So I bought it. For €1,99 :).
  • Samurai Warriors 4-II. Only 50% discount, but I really wanted to play a Warriors type game and this one seemed the best choice. So far it's been really enjoyable.

I also bought Soma, One Piece Pirate Warriors and Strania but I chose to get refunds for them. Soma is just too scary really, One Piece didn't really click with me, despite loving the anime and Strania just seemed too hardcore for me.

Still haven't bought anything.

Thinking of just going for Hitman 'The Full Experience' on CDkeys and pre-order Deus Ex...

Hitman is out of stock at CD Keys and has been for a while.

I had decided to buy it so e-mailed them last week - they do not know when they'll be getting further stock.

Me and @PK were talking about the good ol' days of arena shooters and how much we enjoyed them. Next thing I know I receive a copy of Reflex* and am bunnyhopping across the best looking retro maps to have ever graced my 144hz monitor! (eat your heart out Certain Affinity) It's straight-up Quake 3 Arena and just glorious really. The rocket launcher, the player movement, the visuals, the advanced mouse settings which are totally ridiculous, everything is spot on!

We had a ton of fun playing 1v1 on some brilliant old school maps. Chaining hits together with multiple weapons feels very satisfying and even gives you a little reward when doing so. My only gripe with it so far are a few quality of life issues and some of the sound design could use some more work as well. That being said, for something like an Early Access title it's been impressive to see how well it already looks and plays. Good stuff!

What's a Quake Champions/Doom multiplayer? Buy it so we can play 4-6 player FFA. :D

*Thanks again PK! The inner Q3A fankid in me is going crazy right now.

Stories: The Path of Destinies, had it on my radar for a while and liked what I saw in most reviews but having now played it, it has exceeded my expectations. What an incredible game :o

It has a really neat Arkham-lite combat system with a simple upgrade tree for various actions (dashing, combos, increased health/stamina etc) and different swords you have to craft and upgrade to give further variety. The standard sword can be upgraded to heal on hit, for example, and the void sword has you leaping around attacking at incredible speed. There's plenty of enemy variety, too, it's not the deepest combat system in the world but it is satisfying and has a nice rhythm to it.

It looks fantastic, both the environments and effects, especially during combat.

Audio is superb, lovely sound effects and some really memorable music.

The narrator might grate on some, his random remarks can get repetitive and annoying, but his telling of the tale is really nicely done.  And this is where the real genius of the game lies. You play through the game in a series of stages (four plus a finale) and pick a route at the end of each stage, resulting in multiple different outcomes (there are 24 potential outcomes I think). Each time you play through you learn information about characters, items and how your actions might affect the finale, and unlocking 'truths', real key story elements which will lead you to the proper ending, presumably. I was scared this was going to be a lot of work, i'm usually put off by games where you repeat content but this works for me, for some reason. The narrator keeps up, tracking decisions and reminding you of what happened the time before, without pushing you one direction or another. I'm unlikely to go for all 24 combinations, but unlocking the 'truths' has been a really rewarding experience. Worth noting that each run (5 stages) takes about 30 minutes to an hour, probably the lower end if you avoided collecting everything and unlocking all the doors.

It's currently £7.69 in Steam sale, and I really can't recommend it enough.

If anyone is likely to play this a fair bit and wants a copy, I might know somebody who is a massive idiot and clicked Buy Four Pack when I only meant to buy one copy.

To give you an idea about the type of people making/playing this, here's the Mouse Settings screen:
