The Steam Link app is now available on iOS. Had a quick go, seems to work well.

And this his might be old news, but I’ve also just found out that if you update the Steam Controller firmware, you can connect it straight to an iPad as a normal Bluetooth device.

Just to add to that: on Android (I don't have iOS) you can also pair an Xbox One controller and it works perfect with both Steam Link and RetroArch.

Here's something I never knew; while you can delete an item permanently from your Steam account, it's not actually permanent at all and you can undo the action by finding the game again under support. And if you can't get the game to come up in the search on support (eg, if it has a common name and given it's no longer on your account it doesn't get bumped up the search results), just stick the appid on the end of this link:

https://help.steampowered.com/en/wizard/HelpWithGame/?appid=<gameappid>

Ideal for deleter's remorse. Or for if you delete an unknown package that Team Fortress 2 was in that turned out to be The Orange Box meaning Half-Life 2 was no longer in your library when you go back to play through a bit more of it, like I did the other day.

I've got to be right at the last bit. There's exposition being spouted and allsorts, except the fucking sound is missing the first second of every sentence so I've no idea what anyone is saying. Even putting subtitles on isn't catching all the audio, Alyx is just miming at me now. Fifteen fucking years I've been playing this and this is what I get - no idea what's happening at the end. It's been fine 'til now (well, I think I fixed some echoing that cropped up around 2010-2012)! Christ.

edit: snd_mixahead 0.3, and done. Phew.

Yeah, either the key redeems the Steam version but otherwise just wait until a sale - those old-ass games are usually on sale for a quid or two. That's an acceptable price to avoid the hassle of using a disc like it's 1999.

Doesn’t steam have a scan for game function?

To clarify what Dudley says, you can add any program (be it a game or Chrome or VLC) on your PC to Steam but that's just a shortcut. You're still launching the same program. So if that game needs a disc, it'll still need a disc. And obviously Steam won't do shit with it in terms of stats or updates, it's literally just a shortcut to a game outside Steam.

What we were talking about is activating a game on Steam. Sometimes the developer or publisher of an old game went to the trouble to make old cd keys or even GFWL keys, into valid Steam keys. ie, a key that you enter in Steam to add that game to your account. In that case you don't need the original anymore, because the Steam version is now part of your account, your Steam Library. Which includes updates through Steam, stats, etc.

For instance I bought my copy of Euro Truck Sim 2 in a box but the CD Key from that worked in Steam and I've not needed the disk since.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a feeling I haven't updated my wishlist in months. Then again the PC isn't my primary gaming box so I should find plenty of things by simply browsing. (Also I'll happily spam everywhere to tell people about my favourite games that have been discounted. :P )

6pm edit: looks like the store page was live for all of five seconds before I tried to navigate somewhere and got a connection error

7pm edit: my wishlist was up long enough for me to see its discounts, at least. Tempted by 80% off Aaero, 85% off Absolute Drift or maybe 20% off ZeroRanger...

7pm edit 2: picked up ZeroRanger and Aaero!
