I'm not blown away by any sale prices on my Steam Wishlist so far, are more games likely to go on sale?

I've found it a rare day that a Steam sale price is less than I can find it elsewhere unfortunately. A few times it's been so, but it's recently it's not been enough for one of my usual spur of the moment 'click buy now'.

Which is a bit of shame.

Edit: That being said, I did just buy the Crysis Remastered Trilogy 😛 . The first one still doesn't look as good as the original as far as I'm concerned, but the other two are much better games than they're sometimes given credit for. Aside from some truly appalling story-telling, there's a whole lot of fun to be had killing people like Predator!

I noticed that Steam Award nominations are open too. It checks your library for 2022 releases to help with nominations... and it only picked up P5R and Multiversus in mine.

Couldn't I just vote for Elden Ring even though I played it on PS5? :P

Yes. You just need to type it into the box - that's how I voted for Tunic.

The only thing you can't do is vote for the same game in every category.

Also, obligatory reminder to use gg.deals to look for historical lows during the sale - Steam drops prices, and then everyone else drops theirs lower!

I went for half price Spelunky 2 as thought it may be right at home on the smaller deck screen.

I do love trawling thru stuff on Steam watching trailers for things I've never heard of and building a wishlist - the store seems so much better for discoverability than the equivalents on Sony/Xbox/Nintendo

Cosmic Star Heroine at £2.19 and Blossom Tales at £2.74 ...I got them both on Switch but it would be rude not to buy them again at that price.

Tales of Berseria at £3.99 seems good bang for buck on a high usual price that should have dropped by now.

what I'd say is if you plan on playing both games, it's harder to go back to Spiderman after MM because they refined the formula a lot and trimmed the fat. MM is over a lot quicker but it distills it in a way that you don't feel short changed.

Is gg.deals better than Is There Any Deal then?

I like using ITAD for finding out about new bundles, but otherwise I personally prefer gg's interface. It's clear, and you can filter all the usual crap to see just historically low prices, on websites that are considered legitimate and offer a key for Steam.

It's all skimmed data at the end of the day, though. Just another thing to have in the bargain hunting toolkit with Enhanced Steam, Steamdb etc.

Of course, I say all that, and end up buying RDR2 and Cyberpunk for more than their lowest price, because it's on Steam and that means I get shader caches on the Steam Deck

This might be a little sneak peek into my eventual Rllmuk GotY list:

https://store.steampowered.com/steamawards/nominations/76561197975571559?k=6850884411194518489

Spoiler

Prodeus and Ultrakill should technically be the other way round, but Steam won't let me as Prodeus was officially released this year and Ultrakill is still in early access but with a newly released chapter.

Ultrakill fits in both categories though. Prodeus just isn't that hard in comparison

The final award ceremony would just be a store link to Elden Ring if that happened.

Possibly, though Elden Ring only gets the "Best game I suck at" award. Immortality was my GOTY, but I also wanted to award it Innovative gameplay. And Return to Monkey Island I wanted to award Story, Soundtrack, and visual style.

I'm enjoying Outmode - it's yet another neon synthwave driving game but none of the others have grabbed me - and ever since Drift Stage (and Power Drive 2000) fucked off I've been looking for an equivalent. And they're planning to release it next week. If the price is reasonable it could be a nice arcadey time waster. :)

Also Melatonin is worth a look if you like cute Rhythm Heaven-style gaming.

Melatonin is out today.

So a US Senator has asked Valve why there's so much white supremacist content on Steam. There's been other letters sent to more companies about moderation in online services.

Honestly, it's the right thing to do. As much as I love the platform, there's so much garbage that has gone through whatever the old greenlight system has become that it does require a curation team to look at new releases and tell bare-faced racist asset flippers to fuck off.

And in addition to all that the Steam Forums are an absolute hive of that kind of horseshit. Literally any game that deviates from the traditional white muscular tough hero man rescues incapable helpless women with massive tits has it’s forum packed with people decrying it for it’s “woke” agenda, and accusations of pandering to the far left, feminism, black people not wanting to be killed by cops, etc etc.

It’s absolutely relentless and anyone arguing against it all is risking a ban because they get reported, presumably for “political”.

Valve doesn’t give a shit.

Yeah, it's always been bizarre how the online discourse has sided with Valve when they've got a litany of sins, they're a mucky org selling gambling and porn to kids but the Epic thread is currently moaning about their biggest competitor for their crime of *looks at cards* 'being completely in the right about the App Store monopolies of Apple/Google, to the point that the EU is now going to mandate they open them up to alternatives'.

I'd have thought the same applies to the PS Store, the Xbox Store, eShop...
