If you like your RPGs with an emphasis on exploration and experimentation without any restrictive or spoilery handholding whatsoever, you'll love Risen! I really hope it wins the vote now, more people need to experience that game without having to rely on the completely atrocious 360 port.

I'm afraid I had to vote for Divinity II DKS, loved it when I got it a few sales back and would highly recommend it. It certainly has that European RPG feel to it.

Really enjoyed the combat though it's a bit unforgiving to begin with, if it wins and you get it, make sure you start with some sort of ranged attack. Good story with some interesting characters along the way, mind reading is a great addition. Voice acting is a bit iffy, we're making a fantasy game so everyone has to have some form of regional English accent, wasn't that bad though. Also a really good looking game.

Must replay it at some point, been thinking about it recently just have so much to play for the first time.

CK2 is such a lovely game. And really not that hard to get into, honestly! The focus on characters helps a lot.

It was really nice when the site was just starting, but yeah, since then it's gotten a bit... weird.

I'd broaden this to cover RPS as a whole, not just the community. I generally preferred RPS when it wasn't trying to be a quirky British Kotaku with stories for game patches and over-using shit gags like 'foot-to-ball'.

In fairness, overusing shit gags like foot-to-ball has been part of their style from the very beginning (a hangover from the PC Gamer style. Remember the recurring Loughborough jokes in the letter pages? And of course the ever-present "and in the game!", still merrily used by RPS). But yes, I'd say the site has lost a lot of personality in the past year or two - almost certainly down to the switch to a broader range of writers, rather than just the core four/five (John, Jim, Alec, Kieron and/or Quinns). I still read RPS regularly, but I used to read literally every post - now I'm a lot more discerning.

Fuck! Banned down under. Which is a blessing considering the number of massive RPG's on my pile of shame!

Why the hell would it be banned down under, I can't remember there being any excessive violence, gore or nudity in the game. Skyrim is probably more gratuitously violent than Risen now that I think about it. Maybe there are dingos that you can kill on the island in Risen? Weird, sometimes you really get the impression that you guys are banning random games just for the hell of it!

Is there a good hand-holding first game guide or something that you could recommend? Although actually that might be how I put myself off it last time now I ponder it. All setting motivations for Irish dukes and it just seemed like so much info to process to start with. And I like hardcore flight-sims so I'm normally happy about such things. Maybe I need the eye candy too.

That's about to change. We're introducing an R18+ rating for games early next year at long last.

According to http://kotaku.com/5334595/risen-banned-in-australia-sexual-activity-and-drug-use-cited

at the country's Classification Board felt the game contained "sexual activity and drug use related to incentives or rewards."

Whether or not it will be financially viable for the publishers to resubmit now is anyone's guess.

This baby right here. It's easy to follow, well-written, and comprehensive. The biggest initial hurdle is getting used to the interface and where to find information; after that point you really don't have that much info to keep track of.

Civ IV complete for me, £3.74. I was trying to find this but either I was being a bit dim (usual) or they only put this back up as part of the Civ pack. Oh and for some reason Steam has added all bits of the Civ IV pack twice. Luckily it only charged me once :).

Some very good games in the deals like Deus Ex & Driver but alas I already have them on consoles, I purchased Skyrim & Portal 2 because of the workshop features.

Let's see what the flash sales are for the evening.
