Mashed

I wasnt too keen on it, seemed to miss something that MM had, if you knew the track you could very easily stay out in front. I guess because most maps were barriered (at least one side) and were rather small and straight, there wasnt much cutting corners or screwing up taking longer routes and so on. Lack of obsticals didnt help either. And the weapons, what a load of rubbish most of them were sadly. Its fun in multiplayer but it really is missing the MM magic.

It's the perfect evolution of Micro Machines. MM4 is an example of how to do it badly, but I imagine that's because Empire were being ordered around, thus creating a horrid mess of a game. The weapons being a major flaw in the game, not to mention the over-saturated selection of vehicles (which don't include helicopters or boats, rather ridiculously), not to mention the dreaded PSP crossover shite shoehorned in by Codies to get more dough out of anyone stupid enough. Oh, and it only came out on the PS2, the only machine without 4 joypad ports.

The weapons in Mashed, for the majority, are perfect. Mines, machine guns, odd fireworks, weird speed boosts which set opponents on fire, but best of all is the dead-mode seeking missile. Get back at the bastard who shunted you off the course! Granted, it's pretty shite in single player mode, and if you don't know the unlock code then it can drag. But, if you're playing it in single player mode, you might as well shoot yourself in the foot.

Mashed is absolutely amazing.

Polar Wharf.

Chaos Weapons.

Airstrike.

Amazing.

Especially when;

You put someone in the hut. "Who's in the hut?!!"

And when you reverse down the road you've just previously been down to annoy your opponents.

You know what i mean...

That is great- giant explosion and 2 people die, you vs someone but you're both facing the wrong way, so you reverse race each other (whilst dodging airstrikes).

Oh and making airstrikes aimed for you hit the opponents. We turned that into a fucking artform.

Yeah, like when there's a missle coming straight for you, instead of bursting ahead of your opponent, go just ahead of him/her and break - the missile will hit him/her and you'll get off scot-free.

I'm gonna get Micro Machines V4 on the DS because i basically want a portable Mashed.

Oh, should give a mention to the stupidity of having to play the single player to unlock stuff for the multi. Really bad decision, that. :P

And the locked save file thing, too; so even when you do unlock everything, you can't move it to another console. :P

Never bothered after that. I don't care how good it gets, I gave up on principle.

Fantastic game, this is easily the most played 4-player game of this generation amongst my friends.

Didn't realise for ages that at the beginning of the set-up when you can choose Pro down to Rookie actually affected the speed of the cars, on Pro the missiles can barely keep up with the cars on polar wharf. :P

One more vote for this. Hours of fun trying to use the crazy physics to smack opponents off the track with your car's arse

You know the score. A little turn to the left, then hit them full force to the right with the tail-end. Works wonders, especially if you do it 2 seconds into the race for maximum humiliation.

Any reviews of this game?

Mashed is sweet fun in multiplayer but a bit shite in single player- use the freakin' cheat to unlock everything (it's somewhere in this thread). Then just play multiplayer with your mates Airstrikes on of course. If you hated 16bit micromachines GET OUT. 7/10

Right. I'm going to write down that cheat, selotape it into the box with the game, and endevour to bring it with me next time we 'get the Xboxes out'.

Oh my, that was excellent. We put Halo away and played four-player Mashed for about 2 hours.

Many thanks to Mogster for the code; I never would have bothered otherwise.

Heh, no problem.

I only found out about it myself a couple of months ago actually. Micro Machines V3 had an unlock everything code, so I figured that as Mashed had borrowed so much from that series, they might have borrowed that too. Gamefaqs delivered the goods.

First time I played it was Retrovision 5 last year, multiplayer madness on a projector. And do you know what? It was actually as much fun sitting waiting for your turn as it was playing. New insults were invented. Vicious battles ensued.

From what I've played Micro Machines v4 is similar... but not as good. PC version looks very bland.
