The Mandrill album that Holiday is taken from is very good - it's one I picked up from Art Vandelay himself last year!

 

Also, I wish I could go to parties that play Mandrill and Bernard Wright!

Hopefully I can continue the good vibes with this funky jam from Crown Heights Affair. Far Out is from their 1976 LP Do It Your Way. Definitely an artist I need to explore more.

I love Brit Soul, Jazz, Funk and Jazz Funk. Went to see Loose Ends at the Jazz cafe last weekend. Very good if a slightly erratic and disorganised set up. Played all the big hitters as you would expect. This was the highlight for me which was their (eventual) encore.

I think Loose Ends are one of maybe three bands tops that ever released a good remixes album.

I think I own precisely two…Chaka Khan’s Life Is a Dance: The Remix Project which is obviously the best remix album ever made, and that Teena Marie one I got earlier this year.

Some crossover with Life is a Dance too as Dancin’ Danny D mans the boards on a track. If feel like I’ve got a decent handle on early-90s garage and I’ve never even heard of the bloke outside of the context of these albums.

I own two copies of the Chaka album as insurance, I would be bereft if anything happened to it.

 

Yes, Danny D mines a very particular furrow. Have you never heard D-Mob & Cathy Dennis’ C’Mon & Get My Love then? It’s still a classic I think, pop house production that is ultra slick while sounding like it cost ten pence, and I can never get enough of her voice:

Heard this on Street Sounds Radio the other day. It's a fantastic radio station. I'm aware of Willie Hutch, but this particular one has escaped me. Absolute class! Love the little riff when he's singing the chorus.
