Indeed…this easily ranks amongst the greatest soul tracks ever recorded, if I had to take one tune to a desert island this would be in contention. Incredible to think it’s nearly fifty years old, and still minty fresh:

That's ace! Great suit game too.

Was sad to hear that Ronald Bell died recently. Kool & the Gang made some seriously incredible stuff. I mean, this is such a cool piece of music.

I had no idea that Lightnin' Rod record was linked to Kool and The Gang. The music on it is indeed amazing.

I was introduced to it at the age of 12 by the "cover" that Grandmaster Melle Mel and The Furious Five did. I listened to this so much that I still know all the words.

I knew it from the inclusion of Sport on one of the Ultimate Breaks & Beats records. I thought it was common knowledge that Kool & the Gang were behind it, but I had no idea who Lightning Rod was or anything else about it really.

Here's an end of the night, impossible to find Parisian dance floor devastator. The piano sound and solo are so good.

Just catching up on some of the recommendations from this page. Liking this one very much. The original 1983 12" single is a bit pricey - Discogs has 1 For Sale from £161.58 but it was also recently reissued (2xLP/CD/Digital) on this French Disco Boogie compilation. I'll take the digital download for 99p

thankyouverymuch!

That boogie stuff goes for massive money now. Probably been sat in shops for years going for pennies! There’s an amazing one by Beckie Bell that Kerri Chandler has on his DJ Kicks that’s killer too, and extremely expensive. Those French comps are brilliant though and all three are packed with good stuff.

Here’s another nice Tiny Desk. This dude did the original of Kanye’s best track Father I Stretch My Hands amongst other masterpieces of gospel and it’s so amazing he’s still at it.

I caught First Choice's cover of Stevie Wonder's Love Having You Around in a mix the other day. I was just following it up and it's taken from their 1977 LP Delusions, which as well as that tidy cover version, also includes two bonafide Disco classics - Doctor Love and Let No Man Put Asunder. There are also a couple of other tracks worth your time on there - Chance Go Around is another quality uptempo Disco number with a great bass line and I Love You More Than Before is a solid Slow-Jam.

I've just found Street Sounds Radio on DAB. Run and set up by Morgan Khan. The purveyor of all those classic Electro albums and Soul compilations from the early 80's. It's just hit after hit on there for me. The following tune is heavily rotated by most of the DJ's. Such a killer chorus and kick.
