Murphy's Law

One of the best cop drama shows returns for a three part mini-series tomorrow. It runs from sunday till tuesday and if the last series is anything to go by then we're all in for a treat.

I only bring this up because I almost missed it, there's been no promotion at all. Which is odd because they hyped the hell out of the last series.

For those that have never seen it then give it a go. It's very different from you're typical cop shows and is a lot grittier in a good way. Website is here with clips and an episode guide.

No promotion? I hardly watch any TV anymore, yet even I knew this was back on. There's been an ad for it on BBC1 whenever I've watched anything. And when I caught Radio 1 for the first time in months they were interviewing the main guy (forgot his name).

You must live under a bigger rock than me.

I did. I thought it was a load of actors trying to out-do each other, stressing how important their lines are. It's one hell of a big cliche. The plot was alright, and for a bank holiday weekend it's mildly entertaining, but it has nothing of substance. It's tabloid TV.

Whatever!

It was ace. Not as good as the last series which was just fantastic. The problem this time rund is they're having to introduce a new handler so you don't have the relationship that was so strong in the last series.

Tabloid TV? Nah that's Love Island or Big Brother, this is a damn fine cop drama.

It's not a new series, just a one-off bank holiday special. (Dalziel & Pascoe special on next weekend).

If anything the new handler (and female colleague) storyline is working for me. Will be interesting to see how the loose threads are tied up...

It's being classed as series 4 though so blame the BBC. Looking forward to Dalziel next week as well. I've only recently gotten into that. Now if only ITV can stop making Love Island and get a new Frost out I'll be a very happy bunny.

Simmy did you see Series 3? This special pales in comparison to that and I really recommend hunting it down if you liked this.

Looking forward to tonight.

So what happens in this? Does he chase the bad guys in a car only to get stuck in traffic, then switch to another lane and find the lane he was in previously is now moving faster?

Very droll. Tommy Murphy is an undercover detective, this time trying to get close to two Irish brothers who have moved to the West Midlands. After getting them to trust him, Murphy finds out about the money back in Ireland and how the brothers are going to get. The only trouble is, Murphy's cover is blown by a careless mistake from his back-up...

I've never watched this, apart from catching some of the last episode of series 3, I made of point of watching it this time.

Wasn't that impressed, I liked the first episode but it seemed to go downhill from there, I found the bad terrorist brother to be a completely unbelievable character.

Is it worth getting hold of the other series? The episode I saw from series 3 was really good, even though I wasn't too sure what was going on.

I only caught the first two, and it was already starting to run out of ideas by that point, but the first ep was really interesting. It's no Edge of Darkness or owt, but Nesbit is watchable, the 'drug exchange' sequence was the best directed thing of it's type I'd seen on TV for ages.

The problem came as you realised what you thought were gonna be juicy dramas - like the relationships between the various different ethic groups - were being ignored in favour of more simplistic thriller plot guff...
