Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Ah well only unranked seems to work atm. Had a couple of games - it feels a bit like BF2 (confusing at first but fun), the graphics are nice but there's some glitches and stuff, which is what you'd get in a beta I suppose. Controls ok but you feel more "weighted" than CoD4, even with the sensitivity maxed. I think the muffled distant sounds are really good. There's also vehicles like tanks, humvees, boats and a chopper or two to play around in. Oh yeah, and because of inevitable CoD4 comparisons, it feels different enough because the maps are much bigger. Like BF2-ish.

I'm not very good at impressions so someone else should be along soon to give the real details.

Edit: oh yeah, there's old-school health points though :)

How does it compare to frontlines?

How does it compare to frontlines?

Unfortunately I haven't played that, so I would not know. That got some average reviews did it not?

I played and loved BF2 for ages, but that had plenty of problems so I'm not biased one way or the other. Ignoring the terrible buying-weapons choice, I'd say it's worth trying out. Hopefully it won't just lose to CoD4 like RSV2 did, as it differs in gameplay more.

Pob, sorry I didn't get to try that much, I was shooting rockets at tanks and crashing a helicopter into a river :)

Surely the fully-destructable environments are the big new here - how are they? Can you chip away at walls with machine guns, for example?

Yeah, why is noone talking about the much hyped destruction? Is it shit?

I didn't see a lot of destruction in my brief shot to be honest (if any) :) I hope it's as good as they said I'll go and try pumping some rockets into a house.

Anybody managed to invite a mate to their game ? It wouldn't let me earlier but the "custom match" option implied you could.

Right mate's just off the phone saying it's running smooth as now and he's well impressed - Apparently there's realtime tickertape updates in the game advising that they're working on the server issues.

He's also raving about the destruction of the buildings so I've missed something.

Back soon :)

Interest in game = 0 now. I thought it'd be the focus!

Re-evaluate that the destruction is HAMAZING - just chucked a grenade after someone, he ran indoors, grenade lands at door and a few barrels go up in the explosion - when the dust settled the front wall was missing and I popped the guy :D

The HUGE artillery guns are :)

I'm more & more impressed with this - it has crysis style tree activity (it'll splinter & break exactly where you shoot/grenade it) and the destructible environments make you think about things differently - we were approaching the enemy base and there was a big fence all around it - driver just blew the fucker out the way :)

Oh man, you guys are so missing out, this is the best multiplayer experience ever.

:)

Nah, it is pretty good though, classes and weapons are quite balanced, more so after you unlock the special weapon/item for each class.
