it's probably been said a million times, but the iconic zelda theme (plays after you die in the first game) is outstanding. just that single-note melody is incredible. heard a version by the Video Game Pianist, he dicked about with it and added shit and it lost all its charm.

also most of the music from sonic 2, especially metropolis. fat synth brass, oh yes. rock.

There is so much absolutely awesome game music, it pisses me off greatly when people who don't play games think it's rubbish. It's like, "You think you understand music, but if you don't play games then you don't understand GAME music, okay?".

The Sanxion loading music and Wizzball are classics. I think the gradual build up of the music in Delta was great too.

The Supe Mario music is still the unofficial Japanese national anthem.

And the original Wipeout was the soundtrack to a gaming generation.

As a complete soundtrack, I love Super Metroid because it adds to the atmosphere.

For a single song, it would have to be Magical Sound Shower from Out Run.
