While I'm here I ought to post of this as I've just ripped it. It's an old house tune from 1992 that doesn't get heard much these days. I'm sure some Dutch bloke could do an awful 2007 trance remix of it

Transformer 2 - Pacific Symphony (Original Mix)

I've got that on cassette single in the loft. Hell of a tune. It's in Ben Liebrand's essential 90s Grand Mix alongside all the early nineties dance and pop, too.

That reminds me I still need to get that Merciless album....

Also bought the new Bugged Out - Simian Mobile Disco CD which is interesting, if a little chaotic.

This The Field album though, just finished listening and I just know it's going to get some heavy playback. Wonderful stuff - one of those multilayered sonicscapes that feels like it could just collapse at any moment but still manages to add delicate touches throughout.

Listened to a few tracks, it's alright but not really me. Everyday was nice, in a Kraftwerk-like way.

Just been listening to Claude Vonstroke's mix cd that came with le mix mag today, awesomeness !

Can anyone help me with identifying this electro/housey tune. I know it goes "why dont you listen to me baby""tell me the problem something something" .Heard it ages ago but still have no clue as to what it is hopefully some smart soul can work it out from my pathetic memory

The weekend's London nights

April 20th - Plex @ Hub - Ultradyne, MANASYt, B12

April 21st - DONNA @ Corsica Studios - Lory D, Errorsmith.

Errorsmith is amazing. Everyone should check him - proper Ableton DJ business.

I don't suppose many of the electro heads are clued up much on the electro-funk style of hip-hop you got early/mid-80s by the likes of Afrika Bambaataa, Mantronix, Planet Patrol, Jonzun Crew etc? Listening to the synthed-out rawness of Dilla's Ruff Draft has got me fiending to go back to the source of that lo-fi keyboards and drum machine type shit. I guess a lot of Timbaland's better recent stuff has been a catalyst too.

I found this "Top 100-odd Electro Songs" online earlier, and it seems to have a few of the tracks I already know and love from, like, retrospective Tommy Boy compilations and stuff like that (I obviously know the cast iron hip-hop classics in this list, that have crossed-over. OBVIOUSLY). Some folk might recognise that D-Train track at number 6 as being ripped-off wholesale on The Prodigy's last album at some bit:

Oh, and I'll be back to upload some Planet Patrol shit when I get back on my own laptop. I'm sure some of you know them already. Think The Temptations, as produced by Afrika Bambaataa and Arthur Baker B)

EDIT: Indeed, their shit is on one of the stations in San Andreas.

Well I reckon the Tommy Boy stuff will be the most fulfilling. Afrika Bambaataa's beats have been ripped off so many times, it's good to listen to the real deal. The same with Mantronix really, although anything in the early nineties that was electro with a beat seems directly influenced by his stuff. There's also his ghastly legacy of Lavelle "trip hop" and the played out to fuck 'King of the Beats' etc, which isn't really his fault.

Most of that list could be called electro at a push really. It appears to be anything urban released in the 80s though. Check Whoudini, Newcleus, Hashim for some Dilla electro grubbiness.

Hmmyeah, I like loads of songs on those, but I'm looking for something dirtier and obscurer, if it exists at all? Something harder, maybe. Something a bit departed from the Bambaataa/Mantronix-steezed electro hip-hop (I realise that that's EXACTLY the stuff I wanted recommended to me, but I think what I'm saying is I'm after something that's a bit similar, but darker and heavier. I want some shit I've never heard before. Something WANKY B) ).

EDIT: This was written before you put that Aux 88 recommendation in there. Never heard of that at all. Cheers much.

You'd probably want some Dave Clarke if you want heavy Electro.

Aux 88 are from Detroit Cal....theres still (or was) a massive electro revival from the likes of Dopplereffect (and our very own Gique).

About a year to two years ago the sound was massive in Europe.

It's Mike Skinner apparently, I know there is a Zongamin remix.

Dont suppose you could upload the Zongamin remix or the Bug Dub, I've ordered off le Juno but cant find it on Oink and have no way of ripping vinyl to pc for mp3 playing goodness :)

Sorry I was editing it as I was posting. Definately take a look at the Beat Classic one, as its very raw, loud and more hip hop bedded which might be what you're looking for. I would up some tracks to sample but only have it on vinyl...

Oddly enough i've just downloaded a 4 hour Dave Clarke mix from the Rote Sonne club. Bit jumpy to start with but has some fantastic mixing, goes from old skool to new (electro and Techno) and sounds great.

Clocks in at 4h 21 :)

And thought my mixes were long!
