So on Sunday I played panorama bar and all I can really say is wow. We followed on from Maya Jane Coles at 10am and played until 2pm, easily the best gig I've ever played. The whole atmosphere of the place was absolutely amazing, I actually got a bit emotional at one bit haha. When they decide to open them shutter at different intervals depending on the tracks you play it truly is magical. I'm aware I sound like a total wab with that last sentence but it really was ridiculously good.

Shutters up:

Will post in trading folder, but a quick heads up, I'm not going to be able to go to Dekmantel and have 2x tickets. It hasn't sold out yet (although it will) but thought I'd offer them up here and see if anyone is interested in them at a bit of a discount.

I emailed the fest and they confirmed tickets aren't personalised so can be used by anyone.

PM if interested, thanks!

I've done my first mix in a while so thought I would share it. It's in a deep house stylee but at a more sedate 114-118bpm. Unfortunately Sound Cloud rejected the upload due to it detecting some copyright issues! So Drop Box it is.

Gonna be playing a boiler room on Saturday, we'll be opening the thing at 4 o'clock if anyone fancies tuning in. Pretty stacked line up and would advise anyone watching to tune in for Timmy Stewart absolutely fantastic dj.

My latest chart botherer has just been released. If it does anything for you & you fancy buying a copy it'd be hugely appreciated.

Ah, that explains why I thought all the taxi drivers around Glasgow were bumping old school Jeff Mills all of a sudden! So there's a cover kicking about! Good luck with it, it seems to be doing gangbusters from where I'm sitting, but it's nothing on the original for me. Can't knock the hustle, though. Do you!

Pretty sick of that new retro sound now - dx bass, garage hats and old-school vocal. Everything seems to have slightly shifted to more loopy banging techno and uk-bass orientated stuff up here.

I went to the Arches many times back in the day. For Slam mostly, but also some gigs. Remember seeing Peaches there, which was ... interesting. Shame it's closing, they've also closed the big city centre clubs in Edinburgh. Mostly small places left.

The Arches' forced closure is fucking horrific news for the city. Everyone up here is gutted about that one. We've not only lost a unique and iconic club and music venue, but a creative hub in general for performance and visual arts. The Arches was a world class arts venue whose programme could only be funded by putting on big clubs to subsidise everything else. Now that that's been taken away, the entire operation has gone tits up. It's a fuck-up.

They've been punished for their supposed high number of drugs-related crimes, but those figures only exist because of the club's own thorough diligence. It's one of the safest venues going. It honestly feels like the start of a culture war and nothing to do with supposed drug offences. The McDonalds down the road from The Arches has had a lot more crime happen in and around it than The Arches has, but you don't see the state trying to shut that down. Probably because the liberal and artsy intelligentsia tend not to congregate and create culture in there. It's bollocks, man. These cunts don't recognise how important the music, club and arts industries are to this city, while all the people who partake recognise that they are the most important and significant cultures within the city. They define us and have put us on the map. It's so sad, but I'll be along to the public demo next month outside the city chambers wearing an Underground Resistance hoodie while bumping this on a boombox and throwing a middle finger in the air.

I think the police have had it in for the Arches for a while now. There are far rougher, more dangerous dives in the city of Glasgow than the hoity-toity Arches, let's be honest. They're still fuming and embarrassed, I think, about a time in 2008 when a bunch of their officers ram-raided an out-of-hand quasi-orgy at the gay night, "Burly", and got groped by punters who thought they just were big gay boys wearing fancy dress

They've been trying to close them again and again ever since. Pretty pathetic.

And, if it isn't based purely on a vendetta, then it sets a worrying precedent. If The Arches, darling of Yummy-Mummies and tourist guidebooks alike isn't safe, then who's next to get shut down? Probably not some hole like Jumpin' Jacks. Probably somewhere culturally iconic like the Sub Club, I'd wager. Then it truly would all be over.

It does sound sad, living in Ireland where the licensing laws are fucked, (clubs shut at 2am in Cork) and our one good venue went bankrupt, there's literally one record shop that serves as a hub for interesting arts and club music, there's no real scene.

It's why I'm going to move to England next year I hope.

New Chemical Brothers track - "Sometimes I Feel So Deserted":

(snip)

The next album, "Born in the Echoes", is out July 17.

So the album has slipped from its original release date but streams and things are out there if you look around. I've had an early listen and it's not too bad - I like the title track a lot, and "Wide Open" is nice and mellow. :)
