Totally Awesome Halloween Tunes

This is nice, although it does seem to drift into random non halloween hip-hop at times. Plenty of good samples in there though, did you put them over the top of a prerecorded mix or do it all live in one take?

I didn't do it :) It was a promo thing I grabbed off someone last year.

Roky Erickson is pretty cool (though so of his lyrics tend towards ramones style repetitiveness due to unfortunate shock treatment incident in his youth)

for pure halloween-ness you cant beat "burn the flames" and "night of the vampire",

"i think of demons" is one of the simplest, lovelyest songs ever written.

You cant go wrong with screaming jay hawkins either.

Nightmare by Brain Bug would be good.

There's also Ghostbusters by Run DMC (from Ghostbusters II, produced and mixed by Shep Pettibone I think) and Nightmare On My Street by Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, unsurprisingly utilising the Nightmare On Elm Street Soundtrack.

Oh yeah, what about Bring Forth The Guillotine by Silver Bullet. I think that uses the Halloween theme somewhere.

I just recently became one. Cheers though, it's a great resource.

And keep the recommendations coming! I have some great stuff so far.

And 1812, do you know what Wildhearts song that track was the B-side for?

It was Anthem or Urge. I can email it to you if you want it.

not really a Halloween song but everything Clinic do sounds scary and malevolent, and it should suit the mood if you wanna take it downtempo a bit.

Clinic - Distortions

I'd like to know completely

What others so discreetly

Talk about when they leave me

Not that I notice when they're gone

It's eerie and so scary

I don't know who to marry

Your sister came to bait me

But I love it when you blink your eyes

I've showed me once to often.

You'd never know how often

I've pictured you in coffins

My baby in a coffin

But I love it when you blink your eyes

Oh I, I want to know my body

I want this out not in me

I want no other leakage

I want to know no secrets showed

I leave, oh I leave, now I leave care

Free of distortions, free of distortions, free of distortion

All the great stuff has been mentioned by others, to re-iterate:

Anything by 'Zombina and the Skeletones'. If you can get hold of it, like...

Yes. I've uploaded their catchiest track for you:

Zombina And The Skeletones - Nobody Likes You When Your Dead

"Werewolves of London" Warren Zevon.

Yes.

Oh god yeah. Roky Erickson wins the thread. Hard. Quote from allmusic on his solo debut:

Like Syd Barrett and Robyn Hitchcock, Roky Erickson is one of rock & roll's genuine crazies, and this album does nothing to dispel that image. As the song titles accurately suggest, the lyrics here all draw their subject matter from satanic and horror-movie subjects. Musically, the album is quite appealing. If the ghouls in the 1960s song "Monster Mash" were really hip, they'd be partying down to "Don't Shake Me Lucifer," a rollicking 1950s-inspired number with clear nods to Little Richard, and they'd be slow-dancing to "I Walked With a Zombie," a demented early-'60s ballad update.

You absolutely must play something of his. I'd go for "Don't Shake Me Lucifer" for its jarring mix of upbeat melody against subject matter.

You cant go wrong with screaming jay hawkins either.

Which means "I Put A Spell On You".

Hows about somestuff by the likes of

Demented are Go

Meteors

The Cramps

Basically all Psychobilly music....

I was just about to say The Cramps (especially the one about a fly, that was ace)...

Or, on a gothic tip, try some Fields of The Nephilim, particulalry Dawnrazor. Goths are definitely at their best on Halloween..

'The Number of the Beast' by Iron Maiden

Woe to you Oh Earth and Sea

for the Devil sends the beast with wrath

because he knows the time is short

Let him who hath understanding

reckon the number of the beast

for it is a human number

its number is six hundred and sixty six.

I left alone my mind was blank

I needed time to think to get the memories from my mind

What did I see can I believe that what I saw

that night was real and not just fantasy

Just what I saw in my old dreams were they

reflections of my warped mind staring back at me

Cuz' in my dreams it's always there the evil face that twists my mind

and brings me to despair

The night was black was no use holding back

Cuz' I just had to see was someone watching me

In the mist dark figures move and twist

was all this for real or just some kind of hell

666 the Number of the Beast

Hell and fire was spawned to be released

Torches blazed and sacred chants were phrased

as they start to cry hands held to the sky

In the night the fires are burning bright

the ritual has begun Satan's work is done

666 the Number of the Beast

Sacrifice is going on tonight

This can't go on I must inform the law

Can this still be real or just some crazy dream

but I feel drawn towards the chanting hordes

they seem to mesmerize...can't avoid their eyes

666 the Number of the Beast

666 the one for you and me

I'm coming back I will return

And I'll possess your body and I'll make you burn

I have the fire I have the force

I have the power to make my evil take its course
