Im enjoying this far more than I enjoyed season 3 which i didnt get into as much really for whatever reason.

Love Trinity and his whole

Norman Bates

moment last night. Can never shake the image of John Lithgow being in Santa Claus no matter how many different things i see him in though.

Lithgow is certainly playing it cold btu it does nothing for me, probably because it's been done many times over. His little 'punchline' to the little boy last week ("Run along now, you wouldn't want to lose her" or something to that effect) was almost comical. He's dastardly rather than evil.

Dexter's unchecked moments of appreciation are always good though, admiring killers' work at crime scenes. Loved his look to Rita when he was denied his second coffee fix of the morning.

The BBQ and Neighbour Hood watch meeting was great. I've always liked when they show how baffled Dexter is by normal society.

It wasn't that good. Best episode of the season by far, but I'm not sure it was 'best episode evar' or owt like that.

Sure but it's certainly the best episode this season. So well written to the point where I'm tempted to watch it again and that's something I rarely feel like doing with dexter.

I also love that scene where the dirty cop points a gun onto Dexter in different areas and he explains how each one would effect the blood splatter and result in her being found out

One of the best moments ever on Dexter, seriously.

Just one of the best if not the best (for me at least and that's all that counts isn't it?) episode of Dexter.

Everything about it was just perfect and that ending!

So was the

shooter

the

vacation killer

or maybe

Trinity

or even a jealous

Anton

?

I know they took the watch so maybe it's supposed to be my first guess. Seems a bit too convenient though.

Got to say - I'm with those of you who are putting this up there as one of the best episodes ever.

Throughout the episode I got that familiar uncomfortable sense of anxiety that the best episodes tend to give me!

Season one provided it consistently, Season two found it in the magical run of 4-5 episodes towards the end of the season, and Season three lacked it almost completely. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy S3 - it was just a different kind of season with a different emphasis.

Anyway...

The bit where he explains to the cop how the blood would give her away with each of the ways she was going to shoot him was, as someone has already said, superb. Lithgow was brilliantly fucking creepy again (and a good bet for being the shooter, I imagine), and the ending just came out of nowhere. ;)

The only real disappointment for me was how the end of the previous episode was just brushed away. Rita saw him smashing the security lights and so offered to take the kids away for a few days to give him some down time to prevent him from 'boiling over like that again'? Seems a little weak.

I was slightly uncomfortable with how he is making all these enquiries about the cop, and now she is suddenly gone. All the while going on about not leaving loose ends or a trail or whatever. If the producers are planning on having him found out, that could be important.

Yeah I think we're led to believe the shooter is Trinity which is why we had the odd scene of him bumping into Lundy but it could be someone else.

My immediate thought as I was watching it was Anton, but then I realised that that would be MASSIVELY out of character for him. Trinity, having seen that Lundy had found his intended crime scene, is probably the most logical conclusion. On the other hand, I fully expect that it will turn out to be someone completely unpredictable. Masuka, perhaps? :)

S4E04 ending speculation:

Yeah, leaning towards the Vacation killer at the end there, but Trinity could be copying the method.

Deb will probably survive whereas Lundy will not and she'll pick up the Trinity case.

S4 ending/finale spoiler-y speculation

I'm now thinking more and more that Deb finding out about Dexter will be a S4 -> S5 cliffhanger. Deb and Dex will take down Trinity together and maybe Deb will witness Dexter killing him.

Total speculation on my part though...I don't read spoilers (and apparently, there are some out there...)

It's great that they got a lot of the sillier scenarios out of the way during that series two fantasy sequence with Deb reacting to Dexter 5 or 6 different ways. Means that they won't be tempted to do anything silly when the time comes.

I don't know.

That would be such an implausibly massive coincidence, wouldn't it? Hadn't the vacation killer been targetting tourists in their hotels? For him/them to have randomly picked Deb and Lundy in a car park seems like long odds given the total lack of connection. I'll bet it was someone with an actual motive for killing/trying to kill them.

Do we need spoiler tags for pure speculation?

I wonder, given the way there seems to be a lot of emphasis so far on Dexter's difficulty reconciling his family life with his 'hobby', whether Rita might not be the one to find him out if anyone is going to. Dunno. Fun to speculate, though, eh? :)
