Dexter - Series 8 now done (US). It was the last series apparently.

Next week/ season idea:

Isn't Cody 10? During this season they have dropped in nice little scenes of Dexter bonding with him quite a bit. I wonder if Trinity might just get his hands on him or (going back to the books) Cody see's something happen to somone (his mum) which leads to his own Dark Passenger being created... Next season is the last and either of these ideas would give a good basis for everything in Dexters life coming to an end in some way, "good" or "bad".

It'd be an interesting

mirror of Dexter's own life if Cody saw his mother being killed. That said, the brief clip I've seen of next week's ep (on Showtime's website) suggests a different target for Trinity.

"Why Mr Beaudry, you've done me a kindness". Holy CRAP Trinity walking around the homicide office was chilling. The bit with Dexter waiting in one of the Kyle Butler apartments for Trinity to come in was unbelievably gripping, and that was after I'd seen it in last week's trailer! I've not watched or read anything about the finale and I'm aiming to make it til next Monday unspoiled. Amazing, amazing television.

Because I made the schoolboy error of watching the preview at the end of the last episode, this week's cliffhanger was the same as last week's. Never again will I do that.

YES - vindicated in not watching those horrible spoilers - couldn't believe it when somebody told me they showed the scene where

He says the "Hello, Dexter Morgan" line

Awesome episode - next week is going to be amazing - I was saying to a mate I hope they go bananas like

Lithgow goes to Dexters house and murders the whole lot of them leaving Dexter free next series to go hunting him down - would be an amazing switch of pace and bring real darkness back to the show.

Awesome though - best show this year by a country mile.

Just watched episode 11. I'm glad I didn't watch any trailers, or read any posts above mine. John Lithgow walking through homicide was brilliant, especially when he was looking at the photos of his handiwork, and chuckling to himself, followed by, "Why Mr Beaudry, you've done me a kindness".

Anyone else finding season 4 really poor? All of the characters, especially Dexter, are doing risky and out of character things in transparent attempts to move the storyline forward. I never felt like/noticed this before.

Edit - sounds like it gets better, reading through the thread.

Whilst I personally disagree, you're not alone in your views.

If you read the reviews by this guy for all of the episodes this season, you can see him falling out of love with the show quite dramatically.

On the upside, he does get a lot more positive about episode 11. :)

if Walter ends up turning himself in, denying Dexter the kill he's been so desperate to have. Or does Walter need to die?

Would be strange to have him react positively to the existence of a fall guy in one scene, and then have him change his mind minutes later and come clean the next. I never thought Trinity would survive past this series, and I still don't, but this last episode did a great job at planting the seed in my head!

Oh and his name isn't Walter and it's not an alias. It was going to be his name early on in production, but it was changed to Arthur Mitchell.

There are so many ways they can play the start of the last episode and I really don't know what way they'll go with it.

As for the 'big twist'... (speculation, no confirmed spoilers or anything. Sorry mobile viewers!)

I wish they hadn't pushed the finale as having one really. Some one or multiple people again finding out about Dexter would be big, but not entirely unexpected, which is what it's going to be, according to Clyde Phillips.

It may have to do with Elliott, as hinted at on Julie Benz's Twitter a while ago. It would have to be regarding his identity. He can't be Rita's first ex-husband as surely she would have recognised him (and this programme is not lazy or cheap enough to merely hide any sign of Rita showing she knows him). Plus, I don't see how it would be a big twist.

Secondly, he could be Quinn's brother, or associated with him. He would then allow Quinn to discover Dexter's darker side.

Lastly, and out of these three most likely (although I don't know if it would be a good thing or not)...it has been widely established that Harry slept around with more than one confidential informant. Could Elliot be Harry's illegitimate son and therefore, Dexter's half-brother? Would be surprising sure, but would it be interesting?

I think the twist has to involve more people knowing about Dexter's crimes by the time the episode ends. And I think there'd have to be something else on top of that. I can't think of anything that could be specifically Trinity-related and still work with this idea.)

Whatever happens, it promises to be a stonking finale...the question is...just how stonking? :D

...I'm worried.

I don't think this season needs a twist. It needs a resolution that is worthy of the build up that has preceded it. What I don't want to see is a half-arsed lazy resolution to the Trinity storyline and a 'WOW! LOOK! SOMETHING NEW AND SHINY!' twist that's supposed to draw our attention away from it. If the twist ties cleverly in to the resolution of the Trinity thread, then that's great, but I'm just a little concerned that there are so many peripheral things floating around that have been set up for something to happen : Harry's mistresses, Dexter's neighbour, Angel/Laguerta, etc.

I suppose I'm still smarting from the slightly slapdash resolution of the Dexter/Doakes storyline in Season 2. They spent weeks beautifully building up the tension of Dexter wrestling with how to deal with Doakes without getting caught or killing an innocent, only to wrap it up by having psycho-pyro-pardon-my-tits come skipping in and torching the joint. To compound the feeling that this wasn't the most satisfactory resolution she was then left as the main focus of the finale.

I don't want that to happen again - I want a finale that is a genuine climax to all that has gone before it.

My problem stems specifically from Dexter doing really out of character, hazardous things to drive the storyline forward. How about the last one I watched, it which he donned his killer garb and ran around a hotel looking for Trinity in full view of all the security cameras. I'm only 4-5 eps in though.

It's not really so much 'out of character' as 'character developmet'. If it bugs you, you'd better stop watching now - it develops even further. But the fact is, Dexter has a far fuller life now, and things couldn't stay how they were. He's got to juggle his family with the dark passenger now.

Watching Dexter becoming more human and occasionally giving in to his emotions has been one of the highlights of the season.

Yeah, I dunno why but my brain completely forgot his character name cause everyone just referred to him as Lithgow so a quick goggle and it came up with that. Stupid me.

my thoughts on maybe that happening was

maybe he finds out what Dexter is and instead of dying or risk dying he screws up Dexter plans the only way he can (without killing himself)

If I recall, I don't think the cameras were recording anything, as the disc had been removed by Trinity, prior to his hammer killing. I seem to remember Dex noticing this in the security room. This all from memory though, so someone tell me if I'm wrong.

Watching the episode again, those closing minutes really were truly outstanding. Two things in particular stand out. From when Trinity enters the building, I think this is the first time in the whole series that we're seeing the 'real' him. He had many different sides and disguises to him, even more than Dexter has, but the true, twisted essence of the character came forth as he walked the halls of homicide. The ease at which he slips in past security and looks so proud doing so. He had never really taken much pleasure in his work until this point, or at least shown any, but when he looked over his own incident room, we could see him for who he *really* was for the first time, much like Dexter in the moments before he kills.

Secondly, and this was so well done, when Trinity walks directly into Dexter's department, and when they catch sight sight of one another, the tension that they build without a single word (Dexter's strained, 'Nooo', aside) is palpable. The scene then switches to a first person POV for both for the final seconds, driving home the rivalry between them and the power that Trinity possesses over Dexter despite his age. It's a remarkable confrontation and the only thing that really happens in the world around them is...

"...Hello...Dexter Morgan."

Can't wait for the finale.
