Feedback for ABB:

01. [2006] Robot Intro courtesy of Andrew Thompson - We're In Business

I'd heard the full track on this before a good a way as any to start a CD.

02. [1985] Kirlian Camera - Blue Room (Radio Slave Edit & FX 2006)

I thought this started off beautifully but took too long to get going - a bit of an edit would have been appreciated but once the base line kicks in with the electric guitar that sounds like it shouldn't work but does.

03. [2006] Magnus International - Onkel Reisende Mac (played at plus :(

I really enjoyed this once the noise at 30 seconds kicks in and carries on for the rest of the song I found the way it gets phased in and out keeps it sounding quite fresh. Is it actually played at plus 8 or is that the name of the song?

04. [2006] Elitechnique - We Shall Control

Reminds me a bit of the little I've heard of Kelley Polar is that how you came across this? Good stuff.

05. [1984] Answering Service - Call Me Mr.Telephone (Vocal Mix)

This was probably one of the weaker tracks I didn't like the vocals, too cheesy for my liking but the bass line was pretty good.

06. [1983] Mr.Master - A Dog in the Night (Instrumental)

This is the track that sounds like an off cut from Discovery - great stuff.

07. [1991] Electronic - Free Will [12"]

Sounds quite ahead of it's time in a way this, great drum loop.

08. [2000] Laurent Garnier - Greed (Part 1+2)

Laurent Garnier's someone I've been interested in hearing more of and this is certainly encouraging.

09. [2001] Der Zyklus - Formenverwandler

Slightly too minimal for my liking although what is there is is nice and crisp sounding.

10. [1983] My Mine - Hypnotic Tango

This sounds like an old Amiga track at the start which is great I was worried that I was going to be cheesed out by the vocals but they actually suit the track really well and the chorus is catchy as hell.

11. [2006] Chateau Flight - Baltringue

Great track this I like the effects on the drums - can you recommend any more from this guy?

12. [2006] Magnus International - Kosmetisk

I really liked this too, it's possibly my favourite track on the album, relaxing chords and a great way to finish the mix.

Great stuff mate, I like the way you've put together a similar blend of tracks together from different years while still keeping it interesting. Cheers!

I felt the same about the Kirlian Camera track at first but I've grown to love that extended intro. It's like it's teasing you until the bassline drops. And I do love it when it does

The Magnus International tracks are both sides of a great 12" on Full Pupp records, from Norway I believe. You may know a lovely track by Todd Terje called Glittertind, also on the label and in a similar style to Kosmetisk. I did indeed play Onkel Reisende Mac at plus 8, I thought it sounded better that way!

I found Elitechnique as it's on the same record label (Radius from Belgium) as a lot of the rereleased Italo stuff and is produced by Alden Tyrell, the forerunner of the newly produced Italo stuff. I wouldn't say it sounded much like KP though!

Mr.Master is indeed great. On the Radius label no less. The vocal is a bit dodgy to be honest.

I've got into the Laurent Garnier album that Greed is from recently, after not thinking it was that good originally. There is a good mix of styles on there, from banging techno to electro and more deep grooves as well as a general high quality production. I take it you know 'the man with the red face', also from the LP?

I thought you would hate the My Mine track! How can you like that but not Mr Telephone though? :(

Can't tell you much about Chateau Flight. They did a remix of Stardust and I have another track from the new EP, which is not as good as Baltringue. Check out an artist called 'Spirit Catcher' for more similar bouncy synth funk stuff.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked it

Feedback for The Ultimate Collection Volume 2

(?) = My best guess.

1. Cream(?) - I Feel Free - Classic Innit.

2. The Beatles - You Can't See Me - Quality

3. The Who (?) - Open My Eyes (?) - Very 60's ish.

4. KD Lang (?) - Music like this makes me weep blood.

5. MC5 (?) - Stick It Deep Inside (?) - Hell Yeah. Dirty, sleazy rock n' roll.

6. Johnny Cash - Walk The Line (Live) - JC stickin' it to the BBC. Thumbs Up.

7. Boo Radleys (?) - (?)Starts out all dubby and sinister then transforms into acoustic led indy niceness.

8. Biosphere(?) - Minimalist ambient wibbliness that makes you think you're underwater.

9. The Rolling Stones (?) - Yeehaw Paw! (Grab your steer and get to the barndance.)(?) This tracks all over the place it starts out like a Metallica acoustic intro (which I really loved btw) then goes all country and western, then turns into a ballad before it goes cosmic craziness in the final act. You gotta love it.

10. Neil Young - This sounds like Neil Young doing a Happy Mondays cover. There's a definate Shaun Ryder sneer in the first line of each verse. Great stuff.

11. Queen - This sounds awkward to my ears. It's sounds like they made a song up of bits left over from other tunes.

12. (?) - Ray of Sound (?) - Sounds like the Clash with extra 80s vocals over the top. Not sure about this one at all.

13. Happy happy indy stuff - Well crafted but not my cup of music at all.

14. (?) - I Pity The Fool - Testify !!! Quality bluesy track with some dude singing his guts out. Love it. My first guess was Nina Simone but then realised it's a man singing ? Or is it ?

15. Heavy drums Indy banger. If I was a riot grrrrl, I'd love this.

16.(?) - Feed Your Head It's that tune from The Game when Micheal Douglas gets his house trashed. I really should know the name of the group. Thanks a lot for this one. Click for a hip hop version of this track

17. Floaty female acoustic stuff - Next.

18. Sonic Youth(?) - (?) Nice enough.

19. French harmonic electronica. - Wake me up when its finished.

20. - Elvis - Heartbreak Hotel - Makes you want to stick your collar up and wiggle your pelvis. "Did I ever tell ya that this here jacket represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom?"

21 - Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet. You know that bit where she screams. Yeah thats where it went off.

I'm guessing Cosmic Guru sent this and I apologise for the lateness in posting this feedback. THP8, GOW, COD3 etc.. are to blame. I gave this mix the Test Drive test. On the whole it passed with only a few FFWDs. Real highlights for me were Johnny Cash, The Beatles , the bluesy one and that Feed your Head track. How many volumes are in this Ultimate Collection ? Am I only hearing a small part of a bigger picture ? Thanks for the tunes and I'm glad to say that this month's CD was a much better mix of varieties than some previous ones.

Cheers.

PS Murdoch your CD went in the post this morning.

Thanks for the feedback Boozy. There were only two volumes of the "Ultimate" collection, the other went to Barrow48 in October - with tracklisting

“Draft Morning” by the Bryds from “Notorious Byrd Brothers”

“Wasn’t born to follow” from the same (next track on the album)

“Ceremony”, a Joy Division cover by Galaxie 500 from “On Fire”

“Debaser” by the Pixies from “Doolittle”

“Only the lonely” single from Roy Orbison

“Shimmer” by Throwing Muses from “University”

“The suspension bridge at Iguana Falls” by Tortoise from “TNT”

“Salome” by The House of Love, from the first self-titled album

“Queen Majesty” by the Techniques from a compilation of Jamaican music

“Are you the one I’ve been looking for” by Nick Cave from “The Boatman’s call”

“Breaking Glass” by David Bowie from “Low”

“Bold as love” by Hendrix from “Axis:Bold as love”

“Frou frou foxes in summer” by Cocteau Twins from “Heaven or las vegas”

“The modern dance” by Pere Ubu from the album of the same name

“Das Blaue und der Morgan” by To Roccoco Rot from “The amateur hour”

“Most of the time” by Bob Dylan from “Oh Mercy”

“Stop” by Janes Addiction from “Ritual de lo habitual”

“You think I aint worth a dollar” by Queens of the Stone Age from “Songs for the deaf”

“The Spectre” by Royal Trux from “Cats and dogs”

“Victorian Ice” by British Sea Power from “Open season”

“Live and let live” by Love from “Forever changes”

I tried to split the tracks so for example Throwing Muses counterpointed Sleater Kinney, the Bryds faced off against the Beatles, Love against the 'Plane etc

Anyway as for your specific comments

1. Cream(?) - I Feel Free - Classic Innit.

Yes and Yes - a real "Feal good" track

2. The Beatles - You Can't See Me - Quality

Close - "And your bird can sing" from Revolver

3. The Who (?) - Open My Eyes (?) - Very 60's ish.

This is "Open my eyes" by The Nazz - Todd Rundgrens first outfit

4. KD Lang (?) - Music like this makes me weep blood.

Absolutely - "still thrives this love" from Ingenue, generally not too keen on female singers but KDL is something special

5. MC5 (?) - Stick It Deep Inside (?) - Hell Yeah. Dirty, sleazy rock n' roll.

Close (geographically) - its the Stooges, "loose" from "Fun house". 40 minutes of the filthiest rock ever recorded

6. Johnny Cash - Walk The Line (Live) - JC stickin' it to the BBC. Thumbs Up.

Absolutely - from Live at San Quinten

7. Boo Radleys (?) - (?)Starts out all dubby and sinister then transforms into acoustic led indy niceness.

Yes, "lazarus" from "Giant steps". A titanic track, another band from Liverpool who briefly lit up the scene with an incandescent sound (went downhill later with the poppier stuff but the first two albums are ace)

8. Biosphere(?) - Minimalist ambient wibbliness that makes you think you're underwater.

This is a track by "Senking", to represent the electronic side of me. Could have put a track by Pole on instead.

Err, not quite. You have gotta love it though - its by the one and only Grateful Dead and the shame is its not the best version of the track at all - the live versions of "St Stephen" are all better but usually much longer - check out the first three tracks of "live dead" for example where it is sequenced between Dark Star and The Eleven.

10. Neil Young - This sounds like Neil Young doing a Happy Mondays cover. There's a definate Shaun Ryder sneer in the first line of each verse. Great stuff.

Yes Neil Young from "On the beach" . The lyrics say it all " I hear that Laurel Canyon is full of famous stars, I hate them worse than lepers and I'll kill them in their cars"

11. Queen - This sounds awkward to my ears. It's sounds like they made a song up of bits left over from other tunes.

Interesting comment - its "Death on two legs" the opening track on " A night at the opera" , all time most played record so it had to be on this compilation. However you miss the segue into "lazing on a Sunday afternoon". Its one of those records I could probably sing all the words still and do all the air guitar to go with it.

12. (?) - Ray of Sound (?) - Sounds like the Clash with extra 80s vocals over the top. Not sure about this one at all.

This is "she is beyond good and evil" from the Pop Group "Y". One of those records which sounded like nothing else when it was issued in 1979 and still sounds fresh and engaging (to my ears anyway :()

13. Happy happy indy stuff - Well crafted but not my cup of music at all.

This was designed to soothe the ears after the angularity of the Pop Group. Its "in a funny way" by Mercury Rev.

14. (?) - I Pity The Fool - Testify !!! Quality bluesy track with some dude singing his guts out. Love it. My first guess was Nina Simone but then realised it's a man singing ? Or is it ?

This is Bobby "Blue" Band as you say singing his heart out with a super brass section. Its on Volume 4 of Dave Godin's Deep soul treasures.

15. Heavy drums Indy banger. If I was a riot grrrrl, I'd love this.

This is Sleater Kinney from "The Woods". See RIP thread for an appreciation of this band.

16.(?) - Feed Your Head It's that tune from The Game when Micheal Douglas gets his house trashed. I really should know the name of the group. Thanks a lot for this one.

Yes you should :( Its the immortal Jefferson Airplane from "surrealistic pillow". I almost didn't include it as being too cliched.

17. Floaty female acoustic stuff - Next.

The Golden Palominos - a personal choice. Introduction to non straight forward stuff really. The Eighties were such drab years musically, this came as a breath of fresh air

18. Sonic Youth(?) - (?) Nice enough.

Yes, a track from the latest mellow offering, "rather ripped"

19. French harmonic electronica. - Wake me up when its finished.

Not a post rock fan then. Second attempt to kill two birds by including a Mouse on Mars / Stereolab collaberation.

20. - Elvis - Heartbreak Hotel - Makes you want to stick your collar up and wiggle your pelvis. "Did I ever tell ya that this here jacket represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom?"

"Who do you sound like son?"

"I dont sound like nobody sir"

21 - Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet. You know that bit where she screams. Yeah thats where it went off.

Oh well cant win 'em all. I thought it rounded the CD off quite well

Thanks for the feedback anyway.

PS I have not yet received a CD :( .

Feedback for Goldbricker:

Track 01 - Hmm, this sounds familiar, mid-90s drifty electronic in the vein of Seefeel or Locust. Whatever it is it is super lush. Really really like this. It'll be hard to top this. What an openner.

Track 02 - so the first track was clearly a drift into the meat of the mix. Solid, simple, bassy, martial arts film samples. It's okay, nothing utterly amazing though.

Track 03 - This is rather nice. Coming in somewhere between funky late-60s and Moog exotica. Knowing my ears it's probably from 2004 or something. A quality track nonetheless.

Track 04 - Not the smoothest of segues (but then I can talk). This sounds like an old Amiga demo mod, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was. Or maybe some old game. I've heard better tunes though.

Track 05 - Sounds like Beck to me. Can't really go wrong here, solid beat, nice and tuneful. To be honest this would have mixed in better with track 03. Yes, good choice.

Track 06 - Have to say it, this is a rather weak track. It's smooth enough, pleasant enough, but sent me off into a doze after the first couple of minutes.

Track 07 - Sounds like some sort of bootleg, bit of Nas in there, mixing up the beats. It's not the best semi-hip-hop I've heard, but I wouldn't turn it off if it came on the radio. Maybe this is a remix of some sort? The way it's all cut up suggests it anyway.

Track 08 - Mixes well into this track, compliments oneanother. Rather like track 06 this is okay but did nothing for me, to be honest. Wanted to skip it about 45 seconds in.

Track 09 - I can see the logic of the last track now. This is a not-bad bit of folky, string-laden stuff. It did rather kill the vibe though, seeing as it's quite melancholy.

Track 10 - Moving into more downtempo instrumental hip-hop territory here. This is indeed very pleasant to listen to. It hasn't changed my life or anything, but it is rather lush and relaxing.

Track 11 - Keeping with a melancholy feel, another good-but-not-outstanding track, I didn't skip it, maybe I'm in the mood for this sort of thing.

Track 12 - Rather liked this one too. Nice crunchy beat with pleasant wispy chords and synths. Yes, really enjoying it hearing it again. Would like to know who did this. It's got the Boards of Canada vibe, though not quite with their panache.

Track 13 - This is from some game or film, it has soundtrack stamped all over it. It sounds familiar, and maybe I'll kick myself when you say what it is. It has that brooding quality, building up to something. Good tune generally.

Track 14 - Boards of Canada! Well it was building up to this really, wasn't it? :( It really does show who is boss when it comes to melancholy drifty goodness. Really excellent end to this mix.

Okay, putting aside the fact I can't mix and program for shit, there were a few strange choices here, but generally it was a good downtempo selection. Tracks 1 and 14 really stand out, that's proper quality right there, no question. Track 6 was the weak point, I lost some interest there, my attention was beginning to wander, but you redeemed yourself with some smooth selections after that.

Generally it was well mixed, I'm guessing it wasn't meant to be an exercise in mastermixing or whatever, just dovetailing quality tracks together, and that was a good choice. I might put that on in the afternoon again whilst I'm trying to apply for work, it was non-essential in a good way, if you see what I mean.

Anyway, many thanks for the CD, I shall add that to the collection and as I say will probably put that one on again. Cheers :(

Feedback for Exidor:

1. Proem - Pinching Point

2. FSOL - We Have Explosive (7" edit/2006 edit)

3. Boom Bip - Last Walk Around Mirror Lake (BoC remix)

4. Boards of Canada - Left Side Drive

5. The FLIR - Naked

6. Christian Kleine - Guitar Interrupt

7. Kelpe - Age Concerns

8. Arovane - Instant Gods Out Of The Box

9. Susumu Yokota - Tobiume

10. Apparat - Silizium (Bus remix)

11. Bent - Donkeys In Heaven

12. Goldfrapp - Strict Machine (We Are Glitter mix)

Classic bit of FSOL, reminds me of Wipeout 2097.

Really liked the Boom Bip remix. Especially the last 30 seconds or so when the lush synths come in.

The BoC track that followed was also rather nice.

Lovely chords/sounds on Kelpe's Age Concerns.

Very soothing sounds from Susumu Yokota. Is this typical of his work?

Donkeys in Heaven made me smile. I love the guys voice who is narrating.

The rest was good too but this style of music I find best as background noise when I am working or surfing the net so it's hard to write comments for it. It all sat together fairly nicely too, although FSOL and Goldfrapp were a little heavy and therefore sounded slightly out of place. They were also the only 2 tracks that I already knew. So overall then, a winner! Many thanks for sending the disc, it's always nice to recieve an album with no tracks I have to skip.

No opinions yet, LFJ?

Actually yes - I was going to post earlier but the forum was broken. I really liked both CDs - I was quite surprised at first as I don't think I'd heard of any of the artists before. The first CD was more house-y than I was expecting but it is excellent for loud listening as promised :(

I don't really have any comments about specific tracks except to say that it was indeed all good. So thanks!

Blackplastic I'm really sorry I haven't sent a CD yet. We've had a procession of guests this month but I should be able to get it sorted out on Saturday. And I promise I'll be more timely when I'm running the show :(

No excuse here I'm afraid. The CD's been sitting in an addressed envelope for the last two days, but still haven't sent it off. I suck.

Incidentally, still not received one on my end, but I'm hardly in a position to complain!

Here's the tracklisting for Vimster. I'd like to apologise for the shoddy mixing and some of the choices made but I've been a little short of time this month. If I ever send you another mix I'll put more time into it.

01. Blown - LFO (From the album Sheath)

I do like a bit of LFO after hearing Simon from Sydney and as you say this is a super lush track.

02. The 7 Deadly Strokes - Claude Vonstroke

03. Open Space - Piero Umiliani

04. Bladswed - Allister Brimble

I put this in since I saw you'd done a bit of tracking in the past and I've done some myself so I wonder if you'd know this track. It's from Project X on the Amiga.

05. Beck - Think I'm in Love

Cracking album could turn out to be my album of the year!

06. Dorothy's Finger - Faux Pas

To be honest I agree with you on this the base line is shite and it ends horribly - one for the scrap heap on a special edition version.

07. Hip Hop Is Dead - Nas

That's what I liked about this track the way that it sounds cut up. To my knowledge it isn't and I really enjoy hearing the old classic drum loops in it.

08. Live Wired - Dr Rubberfunk

09. The James Gang - Ashes The Rain & I

Yeah I agree with you again ruined the flow this track but I only really like it since it was sampled by Fatboy slim for Right here right now and I'd been trying to include it for a while.

10. Ketto - Bonobo

The rest of the album is quite a bit more soulful than this and is more vocal based.

11. Boy From School (Acoustic Version) - Hot Chip

It's a stripped down version of quite a poppy track I think if you hadn't heard the original you might not appreciate this as much.

12. A lie for breakfast - Ulrich Schnauss

Glad you liked this it's an off cut from one of his albums that you can download from his website.

13. Keep It In The Family - Hybrid

Not from a film but could well be!

14. Last Walk Around Mirror Lake (Boards Of Canada Remix) - Boom Bip

I thought you might like this one. It was a fail safe in case you hated the rest of it. :(

Seems I'm not the only one to include this track (see above).

Feedback for bph:

1. Nice crunchy downtempo drum and bass line. Sounds UK'ish but with a kind of 80's Prince type lyrics. Nice disinterested female vocals. Thumbs up

2. More upbeat but again with a dirty bassline vibe. Good squelchy synth sounds. Really dig the female scatty vocals on this. Double thumbs up. I reckon a remix would work a treat with some DFA type cowbells in there.

3. Train-riding housey beat. Like the breakdown. Again digging the bass - I could shake my ass to this. Good continuation of quality female singing.

4. Electro-house, nice 'n squelchy. Some fast edit's which work well. Good track.

5. Sounds a bit familiar - I'm guessing very current. Do I have this?? Has a Simian/ LCD Soundsystem sound and vocals. Enjoyed this.

6. Similar to 5 - same group? Again enjoyed it, doesn't have quite the same energy as the previous track but I like the rapid chorus.

7. Mellow track that drops the pace a bit. Very soothing chord structure. Really enjoyed it.

8. Jolly bouncy female rap. A bit throwaway but likeable.

9. Some Marvin Gaye type sample put to good use and great party style flowing rappers. Sounds like Jurassic 5. Top tune.

10. Not keen on this, don't really like the backing track and get's a bit irritating.

11. Shouty nonsense and has that DJ Kool type of rubbish all over it.

12. Same sort of thing. Just sounds too much like the stuff people like to try and play out of their mobile before skipping to the next track every 20 seconds.

13. Dreadful.

14. Same.

15. One for the ladies. A strange but workable mix of 80's synth and modern dance vocal. Nice track

16. Love this, dig the panning tom-toms and laser wars stabbing synths topped off with some cheesy euro vocals. Really curious as to how old it is - I would guess early 80's but wouldn't be surprised if it was something recent.

Overall really enjoyed the CD and I'm mainly showing my age over the dislike for the middle hip-hop section. I don't really listen to much hip hop these days and the stuff I do encounter is either on Radio One or bus/train journeys.

Tracklist please.

Feedback for moodymann...

1. I like the way this starts off with beats that rattle around all over the place and then they just drift away halfway through and leave the tune pulsing away in a gentle ambient stylee. Fairly long at over 7 mins but doesn't outstay its welcome.

2. Follows on nicely from the last one - gentle floaty stuff with a hint of menace, which in no way prepared me for...

3. 8-bit frenzy. It actually starts off with a bassline that sounds like the track's going to go in a completely different direction, and then the synth kicks in. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first but it's growing on me.

4. Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel, Mary Anne. Funky and ace.

5. Glitchy and squelchy. It's not a skipper but it doesn't really grab me

6. Nice hippy-sounding song. A bit of a departure from the other stuff on the CD. Is this the Flaming Lips?

7. A bit trancey, this. Probably. I'm not very good at the finer points of dance music.

8. This one washed over me on first listen, tbh. Concentrating on it a bit more, I can see that it's doing some interesting things - I just like stuff to have a bit more of a melody line to it.

9. Soundtracky sounding thing, although there's audience noise so I assume it isn't. It's up and down and all over the place. Like it.

10. This one reminds me of something that I can't quite put my finger on. Nice keyboard refrain all the way through.

11. This couldn't be much more chilled if it tried - silky female vocals and rippling water.

12. Beats and bleeps. I don't dislike it but there's nothing pulling me in.

13. A big sweaty noise. I'll be sticking this one in the car.

14. And again. Brilliant end to the CD.

I've really enjoyed this CD. There's some quality tunes on there and even the ones I'm not so keen on have enough about them to keep me from skipping them. Standouts at the moment are 1, 4, 9 and 14.

Mine was le posted today, had to bin my intro track as it just didnay want to burn :(

Only getting round to listening to Paradigms just now too. It's been the busiest week EVER, I feel like I've been standing up since last Wednesday.

Believe me, I've had a hell of a week too.

I don't have a *lot* of time to critique but holly's CD is really fucking good. Tracklist please. Bit of banging is really fucking good sometimes.

Tracklist for Exidor :

Geiom - Isene From Skam records on their Smak Compilation. Think it might be Autechre under another name - but who knows?

1. I like the way this starts off with beats that rattle around all over the place and then they just drift away halfway through and leave the tune pulsing away in a gentle ambient stylee. Fairly long at over 7 mins but doesn't outstay its welcome.

The Black Dog - Kings of Sparta Classic UK electronica from Temple of Transparent Balls

2. Follows on nicely from the last one - gentle floaty stuff with a hint of menace, which in no way prepared me for...

Martin Galway - Magnetic Fields IV As used on Yie Ar Kung Fu - SID64 is king - I think it might be a Jean Michel Jarre cover

3. 8-bit frenzy. It actually starts off with a bassline that sounds like the track's going to go in a completely different direction, and then the synth kicks in. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first but it's growing on me.

Wevie Stonder - Mike Mulligan More Skam crazyiness

4. Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel, Mary Anne. Funky and ace.

Autechre - Theme of Sudden Runabout Continues the Skam/ Uk electronica theme. More of a track to test the listener.

5. Glitchy and squelchy. It's not a skipper but it doesn't really grab me

Faultline - The Colossal Gray Sunshine Which does indeed feature the Flaming Lips on vocals

6. Nice hippy-sounding song. A bit of a departure from the other stuff on the CD. Is this the Flaming Lips?

Aphex Twin - Polynomial-C Classic Aphex and ends the first half of the CD of UK electronica

7. A bit trancey, this. Probably. I'm not very good at the finer points of dance music.

Dan Curtin - Saturn from Titan and onto Detroit half. Not as good as his early Metamorphic stuff, but probably the highlight of his recent album

8. This one washed over me on first listen, tbh. Concentrating on it a bit more, I can see that it's doing some interesting things - I just like stuff to have a bit more of a melody line to it.

Jeff Mills & The Montpellier Philharmonic Orchestra - Amazon The classic Underground Resistance track done live with a proper orchestra and everything. Brilliance.

9. Soundtracky sounding thing, although there's audience noise so I assume it isn't. It's up and down and all over the place. Like it.

Shifted Phases - Lonely Journey of the Comet Bopp James Stinson is sadly missed...

10. This one reminds me of something that I can't quite put my finger on. Nice keyboard refrain all the way through.

Model 500 - Rain The originator Juan Atkins making music for the future

11. This couldn't be much more chilled if it tried - silky female vocals and rippling water.

Kenny Larkin - Nitefall Not as great as his early Warp/ Dark Comedy tracks but still has it.

12. Beats and bleeps. I don't dislike it but there's nothing pulling me in.

Gus Gus - Dance You Down Hadn't listened to the album for ages until recently and forgot how good it was

13. A big sweaty noise. I'll be sticking this one in the car.

Zongamin - Whiplash Descibed by Jockey Slut as "Freaky deaky acid house spikey post punk" which sums it up perfectly

14. And again. Brilliant end to the CD.

Glad you liked it, as it was a fairly rushed job, but I enjoyed it on my listen through, and originally had the plan of doing a pure harsh sounding CD like the Autechre track but got heavily side-tracked this month, so perhaps you got lucky :(

Tracklist please.

Many thanks for the feedback, I didn't expect you to like the hiphop tracks but pleased you enjoyed much of the rest as it went a bit ravier than I originally planned. I've dropped comments on some of your comments:

01. Nino Moschella - The Fix Nice crunchy downtempo drum and bass line. Sounds UK'ish but with a kind of 80's Prince type lyrics. Nice disinterested female vocals. Thumbs up

There's a couple more tracks of Nino's over at Myspace, his debut album from earlier this year is great. Lo-fi sounding production, which I dig, and an elcectic mix of psych-soul, funk and rock. Definitely hear the Prince similarities too.

02. Gramme - Like You More upbeat but again with a dirty bassline vibe. Good squelchy synth sounds. Really dig the female scatty vocals on this. Double thumbs up. I reckon a remix would work a treat with some DFA type cowbells in there.

03. The Gossip - Standing In the Way of Control (Soulwax Nite Version) Train-riding housey beat. Like the breakdown. Again digging the bass - I could shake my ass to this. Good continuation of quality female singing.

04. Simian Mobile Disco - Tits & Acid Electro-house, nice 'n squelchy. Some fast edit's which work well. Good track.

05. Shy Child - Break Your Neck Sounds a bit familiar - I'm guessing very current. Do I have this?? Has a Simian/ LCD Soundsystem sound and vocals. Enjoyed this.

This is from 2004 but does fit pretty closely with some of this years releases. Ridiculously joyful, fantastic live band too.

06. Supersystem - Miracle Similar to 5 - same group? Again enjoyed it, doesn't have quite the same energy as the previous track but I like the rapid chorus.

07. Ratatat - Wildcat Mellow track that drops the pace a bit. Very soothing chord structure. Really enjoyed it.

Ratatat's instrumentals seem as expressive to me as many other groups' tracks with lyrics, melancholy yet funky with added leopard.

08. Smoosh - Rad Jolly bouncy female rap. A bit throwaway but likeable.

Smoosh are a 12 and 14 year old girl combo and the throwaway nature of the track is part of the appeal to me. It's all really charming and sweet, especially the way the lead singer falls over her flow at times.

09. Da Backwudz - Welcome 2 Da Backwudz Some Marvin Gaye type sample put to good use and great party style flowing rappers. Sounds like Jurassic 5. Top tune.

Didn't think you'd like this tbh, it's quite regional with the accents and vocab but there's a real energy to the track.

10. Clipse Ft. Slim Thug -Wamp Wamp (What It Do) Not keen on this, don't really like the backing track and get's a bit irritating.

The beat is just ridiculous, Arabian Nights meets the Carribean. I can see why you found it annoying though as it's quite overpowering.

11. E-40 - Go Hard Or Go Home Ft. The Federation Shouty nonsense and has that DJ Kool type of rubbish all over it.

I've listened to a lot of the hyphy stuff coming out of the Bay Area this year, there's so much energy to the production. Again, not for everyone.

12. Traxamillion - Gas, Skrape feat. Izz ThizzSame sort of thing. Just sounds too much like the stuff people like to try and play out of their mobile before skipping to the next track every 20 seconds.

More hyphy, I included this purely for the beat, very deft and light - like little sparks dancing around. I'd probably prefer this as an instrumental as the rapper is pretty annoying.

13. Yung Joc - It's Goin' Down Dreadful.

This is complete marmite, it's undeniably dumb pop but I like the insanely repetitive minimal beat - it constantly works into your brain until by the end it all kind of makes sense. But yeah, I can see why you hate it

14. Amerie - Money In The Bank Same.

This sounds like some lost Destiny's Child track to me, I love the way she flows over the instrumental.

15. Kelis - Bossy (Alan Braxe & Fred Falke Remix) One for the ladies. A strange but workable mix of 80's synth and modern dance vocal. Nice track

16. Black Devil Disco Club - On Other Skin Love this, dig the panning tom-toms and laser wars stabbing synths topped off with some cheesy euro vocals. Really curious as to how old it is - I would guess early 80's but wouldn't be surprised if it was something recent.

This is actual from this year, BDDC's first release since the late 70s. I made a little post about it at Groovin' You a few days ago.

Cool cheers for that, I'd heard about Black Devil Disco Club - I think their stuff got reissued on Rephlex a few years back didn't it? and cited as a big influence on Metro Area and Kerrier District. Could never find it and then forgot all about it. One to pick up next time I'm in the shops.

I also received mine this morning. The only problem is that I'm on holiday for two weeks from tomorrow, so the feedback will have to wait for a couple of weeks.

Cheers for that. A bit too Indie for my liking, and I couldn't muster the effort up to re-write my write-up...but great to have the SFA live disc. Shweetums.

Blackplastic I'm really sorry I haven't sent a CD yet. We've had a procession of guests this month but I should be able to get it sorted out on Saturday. And I promise I'll be more timely when I'm running the show

No problem, I've been so busy this month I probably wouldn't have had time to feedback anyway... Managed to work 57 hours last week which is definately a personal record! Anyway, looking forward to it...!

Right, tracklisting for Paradigm:

1. We Want Your Soul - Adam Freeland

2. Knowledge of Self - BT

3. Statikman - Futureshock

4. My Spine - Fluke

5. Illuminati - Bootsy Collins / Fatboy Slim

6. Plug It In - Basement Jaxx / JC Chasez

7. Orange - Grace

8. Immortal - Sasha

9. Narco Tourists - Slam

10. Sola Sistim - Underworld

11. Nothing - Nitin Sawhney

12. Breathing Light - Nitin Sawhney

I've had the Adam Freeland and Fluke's Puppy albums for a couple of years and never really listened to them. I was really put off the Adam Freeland album by the fact that Mind Killer has been totally changed from the Fear track on Rez, so I never listened to the rest of it, and put it on last weekend to discover the rest of it's actually really good. And as for Puppy, I just forgot I had it - again, two weeks ago I put it in my CD wallet for the car and it's hardly been out of the CD player since. So the rest of the CD was done around those two tracks.

As for BT, that's the one track off Emotional Technology that isn't actually cringe-inducing. There's a man who needs more people to tell him when he's being shit, cos when he's not being shit he's really good.
