I've been enjoying the season but it hasn't been as laugh out loud funny as it once was. Until I go to the film noir episode. Had some right big laughs thanks to that:

Spoiler

Mainly at moments that it breaks from the noir-ness and into classic Sunny style. Like when the waitress reacts to Charlies cat-food drink, and the whole scene with Charlie eating the pie and the revelation he had drunk bleach.

I’ve been continuing my slow-paced run through of this having only seen the odd episode before.

Just seen the series 10 episode “Charlie work” and wanted to say that I thought it was spectacular and masterfully done. There’s a ‘single-shot’ halfway through the episode that is just as good as that bit in Children of Men. It’s well worth the odd low episode when the highs are like this.

I think when it really hits its stride and they're consistently knocking out amazing pastiche episodes there's nothing to touch it. I sort of groaned a bit when the ye olde period piece one started as that sort of stuff is guaranteed to be unwatchable usually, but that was hilarious too.

With AP Bio and The Mick, you can see how the bigger networks just want the actors to play watered-down versions of their Sunny characters. So I understand why they just cut out the middle man and keep the creative freedom.

That said, I'm always surprised that Charlie Day isn't absolutely fucking huge in movies by this point. He's got such an upside.
